  1. I agree that it is inappropriate, but there could be creative and constructive ways to handle the situation. If the administration wants a little class to be practiced they should make a clear request and open a line of dialogue regarding the matter. Have a forum. Ten people will show up. Send out an e-mail. I have never said dirty words during the fight song, but I've never been asked not to. (I know, common sense) What we have in our talons is opportunity. We can collaborate on a new addition to the fight song that all groups can be proud of. All we need are 4 syllables to join traditionalist and desecrator, uptight Southlaker and mullet-adorned Wataugan, immature student and dignified alumni. We can sream our lungs out in peaceful harmony and fondly scoff at the dark ages when ruthless vandals and barbarians threatened to unravel the fabric of our way of life by disgracing our glorious fight song with shameful language.
  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhLoEdqnAso I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be too hard to get some Pageantry at the games this season. They are a Denton band after all.
  3. I'm talking signs out on campus. E-mails sent to the entire student body.
  4. Intimidate isn't the right word. I have seen many a screaming match between visiting players/trainers/asst. coaches and the student section. The "potty word" is the mildest of what goes on in the student section, and far from a main attack. Players aren't intimidated but the student section has an impact on visiting teams.
  5. Instead of changing the fight song to remove the opportunity to insert the filthy phrase, how about asking the students use another phrase. Why not mother loving? Or how about mother hugging? The current action taken is going to create a game of whack-a-mole. It's an invitation to create new ways to be offensive. When someone is openly trying to be annoying, the worst mistake is to let them annoy you. That means you lose. You're now on defense. Probably best not to act in locus parentis. No one wants to lose touch with future alumni.
  6. There are plenty of places to insert curse words into the fight song. In this case resistance is futile.
  7. Noooooooooooooooo!!! DON'T SAY BASKETBALL!!!!
  8. So what if students just hold up signs that contain the phrase in place of yelling it? It could be a whole choreographed thing. Getting all butt hurt about this only adds fuel to the fire.

  10. Do you have a direct quote for what was said about Benford? I only ask because I had to watch the combine coverage without sound.
  11. I will have to respectfully disagree with this statement. There is some furvent Denton pride going around these days. If we could out perform SMU and TCU that would certainly win over the city.
  12. Student section is generally pretty rowdy. Chants, Yells, etc. Should move over to the student section if you wish to enhance your fan experience.
  13. Where do you live/family: Denton, Live with my girlfriend. Degree/Year attended/graduated UNT: BS in Integrative Studies, Currently attending, Graduating December '13 (I'm on the 6 year degree plan) Favorite NT Memory: Watching my girlfriend give the keynote speech at Honors Day. Favorite NT Sports Memory: Pretending to be late to a dinner with some friends, sitting in a car outside the restaurant listening to Lance Dunbar become the leading rusher against MTSU.
  14. I hate saying this but we should look at TCU to figure how to raise attendance. SMU's highest attended game was when they played TCU. TCU's attendance is almost double UNT's and SMU's. Another thought. The Dallas Mavericks were #2 in attendance this season. http://espn.go.com/nba/attendance How is that possible? I know they are pro team, but this was a season that was basically meaningless very early.
  15. You know what they say... 4 strikes, you're out.
  16. Additionally, if you examine further CDC studies a male over the age of 30 is at a significantly lower risk of contracting HIV. That's only one example, but the CDC has a mountain of data that is complex and can be interpreted a number of ways. Citing one study is not sufficient evidence. Especially without a lengthy discussion about sample sizes and methods.
