  1. And hence the nickname Apathy Stadium. Crowd should be loud every time the opposing offense is on the field no matter what the score is. Crowd enthusiasm direct result of play on the field? What about a whole season of play on the field that resulted in an opportunity to clinch West division? No? Not good enough? But hey, at least the crowd was loud when our offense was on the field driving to tie the game...................... http://connection.ebscohost.com/c/articles/70209135/evaluation-crowd-noise-levels-during-college-football-games Crowd noise at sporting events is a highly publicized acoustic phenomenon in the mainstream media because it is widely believed to influence the game. However, very little rigorous scientific data exist on the topic. Perhaps the sport where crowd noise can have the biggest impact on the game outcome is American football. Football crowd noise can make it difficult for teams to communicate on the field and even induce penalties. In 2007 and 2009, researchers from Penn State University's Graduate Program in Acoustics measured crowd noise at three Penn State football home games. Noise generated by the crowd was rigorously quantified and synchronized to events during the game. Peak levels of 123-140 dB and max 10-second equivalent levels of 109-114 dB were recorded. Maximum possible communication distances were computed around the field using measured A-weighted equivalent sound pressure levels. Communication distances are shown to be limited to less than 3 meters on the field depending on which team (home or visitor) has the ball and the location on the field. The subjective loudness psychoacoustic metric, measured in sones, was used to show that the crowd noise experienced by the visiting team is subjectively 2-3 times louder than that experienced by the home team. This results in a distinct, measurable home field advantage.
  2. I believe fans can lose a game, only because I witnessed the pathetic crowd that day. A day which should've been live af since it was our chance to clinch a spot in the CUSA Championship and honor those seniors. It's called home field advantage. It's a big deal, especially in CFB. When the opposing fans are there making more noise while their D is out there than MG fans made while our D was out there...it's pathetic. It contributes to a loss. Our job as fans is to hype these players up, but not much energy was happening that day. So, no, I'm not preaching to the choir. While a majority of y'all are at the game, y'all are pretty darn quiet. UTSA fans were giving me props for trying to hype a dead crowd. Seriously, they said they respected my efforts while they laughed at the rest of the fans. It was nauseating and frustrating. Carlos Harris took to Twitter not long after that one and called y'all out. All I'm trying to say is stop with the negativity. Stop doubting. I don't come on here to read why other fans think we are going to suck. What good is being a fan if you don't believe in your own team? If you won't make as much noise as possible to rattle the other team when they have the ball? Be loud, be proud, and believe. It's much more fun. "Let's take the negativity out of it" - Coach Mac
  3. Why does every positive thread turn into "fire this guy if..." and "we will suck at..." Mr. Gooding, Coach Mac said just a couple weeks ago "great programs don't rebuild, they reload". Rebuild? Naw, this is our year! Fire Chico? HAHAHAHAHAHA. We won't have the opportunity because he will be hired away before that happens. Also, that's my dude. Quit hating, haters. We will pound the rock so many times this year it may drive some of you crazy. But that's how you win when you have an incredible, veteran O-line and a stable of RBs. Smash Mouth Mean Green Football. D & Special Teams will ball out this year. Playmakers are ready to step in. Mr. 3rd Down is going to shine. Mason is hungry. Lest we forget, this is Coach Mac's first senior class. I feel this entire program is bought in. I'm sure as heck bought in. I wish the entire fan base would buy in and get behind this team rather than try to find excuses when the entire summer program is ahead of us. Doesn't matter how many points the D or ST scored, you play as a team, you win as a team, and you lose as a team. I don't care if our D scores 21 points against UT if the final score is 21-20. Athlon picked Mean Green Football to face an undefeated Marshall in the CUSA Championship. Get hyped Mean Green Nation!!! You want reasons for losing? Look in the mirror. Too many people sitting on their hands. Too many people standing out on the hill drinking during the game. Too many people still not accepting the fact that we have a fantastic head football coach who has completely changed the culture and has the next 5 years to cement his legacy on what has been a pretty nice career thus far. I'll never forget the UTSA game, senior day. When people were too cold to show up. The ones who did were quiet. I could hear myself echo throughout Apogee and was surrounded by Blue & Orange. Say Soza beat us. Say it was this or that or maybe that we crapped the bed. But I will always place that loss squarely on the fans. Stop being a part of the problem. Mark my words, win or lose in Austin the Mean Green section of DKR will be rocking and the loudest among all the sections in that stadium. Hope to carry that momentum into Apogee even though people are already complaining about the heat... #GoMeanGreen #Believe
  4. I always get confused if I typed in gomeangreen.com or ehmeangreen.com I'm excited for all these guys to work hard and earn the starting spot. Ya know who is starting vs. Texas? The best man for the job. The guy who puts in a lot of work and grinds over the summer. When they have some down time, they are watching film. This competition should bring out the best in all, and they will push each other to get better. This is the best case scenario in my mind. No one is being handed anything, go get it. Shoot, a year ago it was the same story. Majority didn't even want DT in there for his senior year. Why don't y'all quit doubting and being so pessimistic? Derek proved a lot of y'all wrong and some of you still can't admit it and appreciate what he did.
  5. Hard to pick just one, so I won't Tee Goree on the offensive side due to spread offense. TJ Tauaalo on the D-Line, really like this Tongan kid and very interested to follow him through camp. Anyone with a tat like that has to be a Mean Green SOB on the gridiron. I'm excited for this entire class. #GoMeanGreen
  6. Voted...he's in first place with 37%. Huge jump in only an hour! Let's keep it going
  7. Ah, touché. Still, it would come down to who is ranked higher by Condoleezza Rice & Co. and in that scenario, there is no way we wouldn't be ranked higher.
  8. There's that word again #Believe "McCarney has become a true believer in North Texas football. He also believes that North Texas is sitting on a gold mind of recruiting opportunities and potential McCarney has become a believer in the Mean Green fan base as well." Great find, thanks for sharing!
  9. I'm no professor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night Please enlighten me to the flaw, because looking at the CUSA official tie-breakers, it would come down to #3 http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/c-usa/sports/m-footbl/auto_pdf/tiebraker.pdf Two-team tie to determine host 1. Highest regular season winning percentage based on overall Conference USA play. (would both be 8-0) 2. If tied, head to head between tied teams. (UNT & Marshall don't play in regular season) 3. If still tied, team with highest BCS ranking. Marshall's OOC's schedule is: @Miami (Ohio), Rhode Island, Ohio, and @Akron.
  10. Yes, you're absolutely right. But then again, let's review what I posted: "Let's say we pull off the upset vs. Texas...then run the table...CUSA Championship would be in Apogee between 2 undefeated teams with the opportunity to go to the inaugural college football playoff. (tie-breaker of hosting would come down to rankings, and how could we not be ranked higher when we would have beaten a B1G team and a Big12 team)" You see, I understand that the only conceivable way the Championship game could be at Apogee should Marshall go undefeated is if UNT also goes undefeated b/c the tie-breaker system would go to like #3 where it is the higher ranked BCS team. That would have to be us with wins over 2 P5 schools and Marshall having 0.
  11. LOL, I'm right there with you. 1-0 should cause the same type of situation at Apogee. Every team should focus on being #1 #WNNT? I'll have a grand ol' time win/lose in Austin. If we pulled off the "improbable" upset this article alludes to, then...I believe the above scenario is going to happen. If it doesn't, bring on SMU. Between now and August 30, I'll believe the Mean Green of 2014 can achieve the loftiest of goals and then reassess on 8/31. Ya need to stop doubting and start believing! #Believe
  12. In other news, Athlon predicts Marshall to go 13-0 and win the CUSA Championship. They predict that North Texas will go 7-6 overall, 6-3 in conference with one of those 3 losses being to Marshall in the CUSA Championship. (I disagree with overall record, worst-case to me is 2-2 as SMU & Nicholls St should be W's...) They have Marshall playing Georgia in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl, which is one of the 2 play-in games for the national title game. They have North Texas in the New Mexico Bowl vs. SDSU HOD Bowl: UTSA vs. Maryland I cannot find this online, but @RedParallax tweeted a pic and the author @AthlonSteven responded today if those Twitter aficionados would like to look at the complete standings and bowl projections. Would expect it to be on their website in early June, looks like a photo taken from a publication. I think Marshall has a great shot to go undefeated b/c they have a weak schedule. Let's say we pull off the upset vs. Texas...then run the table...CUSA Championship would be in Apogee between 2 undefeated teams with the opportunity to go to the inaugural college football playoff. (tie-breaker of hosting would come down to rankings, and how could we not be ranked higher when we would have beaten a B1G team and a Big12 team) Does it get any better than that for next season?! If that game wouldn't sell out Apogee, I don't know what will. Obviously, this is best-case scenario and extremely wishful thinking. But, anything is possible...
  13. http://www.fbschedules.com/2014/05/10-improbable-in-state-college-football-upsets-2014/ "Texas-North Texas When/Where: Saturday, Aug. 30, Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium, Austin, Texas All-Time Series: Texas leads 9-0 Texas and North Texas last played in 2006, a game the Longhorns won 55-7. All nine contests have been played in Austin and Texas has a 300 to 92 all-time scoring advantage over the Mean Green." I would've liked if they gave their percentage of an actual upset happening, or some more thorough analysis on the matchups other than the broad historical description of the series. Either way, #BeatTexas
  14. Hope! Exactly! Let's put positive energy out there rather than say anyone CAN'T do it. While O-line is a terrific strength, coaching is the true strength of this Mean Green team. I am beyond impressed with the work of all these men and I am confident HOD BOWL was "not the end, only a beginning". This QB race is wide open. Each young man has 100 days to prove they have what it takes. I hope they all take advantage of this opportunity and Chico has a real difficult decision to make.
  15. Were you at the spring game? I was chasing down dozens of paper plates and even our chairs at tailgating as the wind gusts were insane all day. He had some good zip on the ball and tight spirals given the elements he was up against. I was impressed with his play and have the utmost confidence in his ability to manage a game.
  16. That's Bears safety Chris Conte getting bulldozed by Jonathan Dwyer. I'll always remember Conte for his blown coverage against the Packers resulting in the game-winning TD and thus crushing Bears' division title hopes last year. This link basically illustrates what Bears fans think about Conte: http://sportsmockery.com/chris-conte-future-jobs-12377/ I really believe Trice could start some games for the Chicago Bears. Mundy was brought in as a free agent and will start at SS and Brock Vereen is probably the favorite right now to start at FS. Jennings is hurt right now, Steltz & Conte just don't seem all that good to me. One of my friends in Chicago asked me what they were getting in Trice, and on top of all the positives I listed I let him know that what he lacks in size, he makes up for with sheer guts and determination. http://beargoggleson.com/2014/05/20/chicago-bears-sign-rb-perry-fs-trice/ This article doesn't mention "small school" and seems a bit more optimistic that he could truly be a sleeper pickup: "FS Marcus Trice, North Texas (5’8, 193) - Transfer from Oklahoma who was an all-conference free safety as a senior at North Texas. Trice is short but a stocky 193 pounds. He is very quick with decent long speed (4.57) and very good ball skills (5 INTs, 9 PDs in 2013). He would be short for a safety in the pros, but has the skill-set to have a chance at free safety or as a slot corner. Trice is an aggressive tackler despite his small size (91 tackles) and packs a punch (3 forced fumbles). Trice’s size makes him a long-shot, but he’s a good football player and reminds me of Rams’ 2nd round pick LaMarcus Joyner." I lived in Chicago for 10 years and never cared for Da Bears, but now I might have to get a custom made Bears jersey with the name "BE GREAT" and the number, of course, 8.
  17. They'll be playing "We are the Champions" on 6th Street that evening and I'll be singing along
  18. Their 2 games prior to this meeting are @ Oklahoma and @ ULL Ragin' Cajuns. I would guess they come into Apogee 0-2, but it will be an important game for both teams as it is the first CUSA game. I'm also going to assume they will be wearing these helmets:
  19. Pretty safe to assume La Tech game on 9/11 will be on national TV since it is a Thursday night game, probably Fox Sports 1 like the Rice game.
  20. You are such a hypocrite. You just go on a tirade in the Michael Sam thread about white people having the audacity to laugh and make fun of black people, yet you have the audacity to yet again make jokes about the mentally handicapped.
  21. And I was at the UTSA game, suited up and all. Right by KFC Man who showed up late and left early. I'm guessing it was too cold for you to show up. I was surrounded by orange and blue in our own endzone. This, and idiots like you, is what I hate about this fan base. Feel free to ask Carlos Harris if I was there...
  22. Better hope Coach doesn't find out you're mocking his favorite superhero.
  23. I never said we are undersized, I said I keep reading we are "undersized". You see, quotations mean they are not my words. Which is why I put "superior" in quotes as well. I took the liberty to start this thread to bring attention to the fact that people should STOP saying we are undersized, and that there is plenty of time left before the season begins. If you think I brought up this issue, then you haven't been paying attention. This has been brought up time and time again in every thread referencing next season. I believe our D-line will be effective and shut a lot of people up. There's no reason to rip the best Halloween costume I've ever had either. When I first suited up as Mean Green Man, #TheStand happened. Coincidence? I think I'm just going to hang it up on GoMeanGreen.com. Kind of ridiculous that every post or thread is responded with personal attacks. And I'm not slow, I have a master's degree. However, my brother-in-law is severely mentally handicapped and cannot walk or talk and was in the hospital this past weekend. I look forward to seeing the optimistic, energetic, fired up Mean Green faithful in Austin and Apogee. As for the rest of you who will show up and sit on your hands while you bitch and moan about play calling or "undersized" players, enjoy yourselves. I'll be in the front row, suited up and screaming my ass off. See y'all in August
