Stars do matter but they aren't everything. A 5 star recruit is not guaranteed to make the NFL, but most of them do.
https://247sports.com/Player/Ed-Oliver-30459/high-school-49707/
Big Ed is considered to be the 127th greatest high school football player of all time, the #2 overall recruit in Texas that year and the #3 defensive tackle in the country and was one of the best players we've had in school history. I told this story before, when he first got to Fall Camp, he was on the 2nd team defense. Halfway through the 1st practice, he was a starter and the rest of course is history.
So while there are outliers like Patrick Mahomes and JJ Watt, most of the time the star system gets it right.

It's sad to me they don't want to try. They have the resources to be good, and it's always fun to see quirky weirdos doing well.
Rice could easily be P5 if they wanted to, same with the Ivy League. They have plenty of money to pour into athletics.
-
If this all comes to pass, Rice will be the only former SWC member to not return to a power conference .

PAC media deal is poised to be at a higher $/school than the deal the Big 12 just announced without UT/OU.
Let's not get carried away now...

The fact that the Pac 12 commissioner is on their campus means it's a lock that they're gone.
Bowlsby was on our campus right before we announced our Big 12 invite.

UTSA is one of the worst D1 basketball programs I have ever seen. The top D2 teams would beat them and they can't even remain competitive in CUSA. The AAC is going to eat them alive next season.

Is there a trickle down effect on this that could delay our move?
No. Lol this has nothing to do with the AAC. Us, Cincy and UCF followed AAC bylaws, paid fees and gave an 18 month notice. Plus the 2023 Big 12 and AAC schedules have been released.
UT tried to get our game with them moved to NRG and offered 8 figures, but our AD said no.
Big 12 will just be a 14 team conference until July 1, 2025 unless a deal gets reached.

I believe that walk-ons should eat with the varsity on practice days. The food is out; why not let the total squad eat rather than throw it out. Also feed them on home game days. I would even go for 1/4 tuition. Many of these walk-ons might be as worthy of scholarships as those who receive them. They are often either the star of a bad team or just below the top few on a really good team. As far as I know they get nothing.
This is basically what's done at BYU with their walk-ons.

Do you want me to lie to you to make you feel better? There's a reason why we signed 4 safeties in December and why 2 of them committed in July and August.
I'm just giving some clarity on why that crystal ball was there. Nobody is saying that this isn't a big time signing for UNT.

Crystal Ball shows:
North Texas 50%
Houston 50%That crystal ball is old. Staff stopped recruiting him back in the fall because they were looking to fill spots before early signing day and he wanted to play out the recruiting process til NSD.
He's good enough to get on the field immediately at UNT.

UNT would need to win the CUSA tournament. Not sure if they have the horses to beat FAU. Anything can happen though.

TCU looked like hot garbage tonight but I don't look forward to our conference home opener against them with Holgerson at the helm.
That being said, they're the only DFW team with a realistic chance at a national title.
-
They should name it Albino Squirrel Vegan Stadium.

I know this is not UNT related but this will hurt smut.
Did you forget that Preston Stone was the backup? This won't hurt them at all.

Bean sure saved a lot of money living rent-free on this board. I call it the SMU method.

UNT made a good hire? (On paper) I'm shocked!
Well, we know who to potentially poach in a few years if he works out in Denton.

Let me know when the Super Pit can get a crowd like this. If UNT tried a stripe out, it would fail.

CUSA a multi-bid conference? The problem is the MWC is doing its thing in the NET rankings again this year, they have 6 teams in the top 60. They were a 4 bid conference last season, and I dont think a single team made it past the first round. The AAC should be a 2 bid conference, Memphis being on probation could become a factor if they become a bubble team. However the rest of the AAC is not looking to good right now. Realistically, I think CUSA would need 2 schools in the top 40 to achive multi-bid status.
CUSA isn't good enough to be a multi bid conference.

He should have taken the K State job when he had the chance. That being said, no head football coach has been hired away from UNT in 44 years. This job is a known coaching graveyard.
That being said, please hire Dana Holgerson.

I don't know why you guys give Brett so much flak. He has great headlines!

I won't be surprised. We have the perfect opportunity to do the same, but will it happen?
UNT never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
In other news, it looks like your friends at UNLV are zeroing in on Gary Patterson.

He was only 30. In addition to coaching several all conference players, some of whom have gone to the NFL, he also ran the summer camp. He has two young children. Prayers to his family.
