This part is kinda gray for me.

I feel more like his OC (understanding that his position coach & his OC are the same guy) has schemed to protect him and make safer plays for him, while coaching him to fully-understand that scheme, which elevates those numbers...  not that he's made Aune a better QB, positionally.    More than 1 way to skin a cat, I suppose.

But this just sounds like you aren’t willing to move off your stance from the offseason that Bloesch had nothing to add as a teacher of QBs since he didn’t play the position. Aune’s footwork has looked much better this year and even the picks have mostly been losing track of a defender, not really due to poor mechanics.

Look across the NFL and you’ll see a bunch of position coaches who did not play the position they are coaching. Some of the coaches who get credit for being among the best QB developers did not play QB. Andy Reid, Mike McCarthy, Brian Daboll, etc. These guys know what good form and technique looks like, but being able to effectively teach doesn’t require them ripping the ball 60 yards downfield.

This whole thread is comical based on his 2022 stats today.  57.5 % Completions, what are we debating?  Varying degrees of mediocrity at best.  If Aune passes anyone’s eyeball test as a high quality FBS starter I can recommend an Optometrist.  He would be great at an FCS school.

    ***😂 my feelings are hurt🙄😂***

When I bring neutral football fans to our games they say he is just bad.  Even some of diehard  fans exclaim “where in da hell is he throwing” 2 or 3 times a game.

You refuse to acknowledge any stat besides completion percentage which is the exact mindset that this post is regarding. People aren’t giving Bloesch credit as a QB coach bc they are so dug in on the stance that we should have hired a “real” QB coach. In the same way, you refuse to analyze Aune’s complete body of work and won’t move off of the completion percentage. A completion percentage that, to Bloesch’s credit and the original point of the post, is much improved.

Aune is still 6th in the nation in TD passes, 20th in passer rating, and 10th in yards per attempt. His body of work this season is solid. You want to ignore everything except his completion percentage, that’s fine. But you’re mischaracterizing the point of the post which is that Aune’s numbers have taken a huge jump and his position coach deserves some credit for it. That was always the point of the post. It was never that Aune is some All-American QB.

I'm not ready to say that after one bad game. he's having one of those games where literally nothing is dropping...he's missed some real bunnies at the bucket that will drop most of the time. he's just not maybe a 12 shot a game player once Perry and Jones are back.

In addition to the scoring burden lifting off of him, I also think he’ll benefit from moving to a secondary ball handler role next to Perry. He’ll still fill that role in spurts but I think he’ll look better with not needing to be the only creator on the court.

I'm here to tell you this is not just Seth Littrell.   This is any coach with a modicum of intelligence.

No coach will ever do the bolded above with a 30pt lead.  Speed the game up with such a huge lead, and run the ball.  That is universal.  The backup is only out there in that scenario simply to avoid injury to the starter.  He MIGHT throw a safe pass on 3rd down to keep chains moving if necessary, but that's about it.

If you only have a 10pt lead, there will be no backup QB sighting at all.  The game is way too close.  It's even too close to run out the clock.  You have to keep the offense open.

There are a bunch of reasons to bash on Littrell.   Backup QB management is not one of them.

Yeah I agree this particular gripe is way overblown. A few extra mop-up duty passes isn’t going to make a first-year starter look like a second-year starter, even if he went in and ran the full-throttle offense instead of a clock-eating one.

I agree our standards are too low. IMO, for a player to be inducted into the HoF they need at least 1 all conference team.  If a player wasn’t one of the best at their position while playing they don’t deserve to be inducted.

I agree with this as well. I said the same thing around the discussion of if Thompson should get in. This criteria was clearly not deemed necessary then, but I also wish that was the standard.

Glad for Thompson that he got in, and I get sometimes QB can be a hard position to get all-conference if there are two really good ones, but it seems a little lacking for a player to make the Hall of Fame while not even being one of the best in the conference at their position.

Hopefully Rewban Jonz and Tilar Parie (@BillySee58 those are 4 u) can come came back soon and be difference makers for us. I know it's game 1 and there's a lot of new pieces but boy was that rough. We got no offense from Eady and Martinez.

Really?! Come on, man. It’s Tyler!

Yeah, disappointing from Eady and Martinez, considering those are 4-year D1 players. Still, it’ll get better for them.

  7. Lot of disappointing events tonight but I really did see why Mccasland compares Huntsberry’s game to Hamlet’s. Some of these fringe guys better do more to stake a claim to playing time while they have the chances with Perry and Jones out. I thought Moore earned some more look at playing time.

Ruben and Perry both out for the game and Mac said in the pre game on the radio they don’t know how long they will be out, but we will have some new guys brining op the ball and getting to see early season minutes.

Rubin! With an I! How are we still getting that wrong in his 3rd season with the team?

If he leads us to a conference championship, he'll be inducted into the Hall of Fame in a few years.

    *This is not a joke

He would almost assuredly hold the record for single-season TD passes, be 3rd or 4th in career passing yards, 4th in career TD passes, 2nd in 300-yard passing performances, and he currently has the highest QB rating in school history as well as highest yards per attempt and completion.

Not sure how you could induct Thompson but not Austin Aune, if he has a conference championship (which Thompson does not) and better stats.

Was 2018 "statistically" a better year (same wins with one less loss)?

    Yes. 69.2% winning percentage.

Was originally comparing to 2017 because that’s the season Fine set the records that were serving as the benchmarks to Aune’s current numbers, as it related to Vito’s comparison of their single-season statistics.
