  1. What makes you think that someone is knocking on SMU's door then? Since getting the DP and dumped from the SWC, what have they done?

Agree. We are both selling the same thing potential ! They are doing with the Mayor and local media behind them. Example would b the day after Mac was named head coach he was on page 3 of the DMN. The front page was a fluff article on SMU football. I cancelled my sub that day.

I believe we have the true upside potential! Potential means u haven't done sh.t up to this point.

    GMG

  2. I cannot stand this type of comment! Why does SMU have to move up in order for us to join a more successful conference? We need to position ourselves to leap over them and join a better conference than CUSA.

Here's a thought. If for some reason the Big 12 does stay intact, maybe they look our direction in order to compete for the DFW market with TCU because I guarantee you they won't be able to compete by taking SMU. The truth is that the Big 12 is on life support and if they settle for SMU then they might as well wave the white flag and quit. They need to take a risk with a larger school that has potential to become the next TCU, Rutgers, etc.

Because a $uper Conf is not knocking on our door !! i think we would all be happy with a MWC or a Conf USA type conference compared to the Sunbelt !

  3. " Also talking about a merger is the Mountain West Conference and Conference USA. Mountain West Conference commissioner Craig Thompson told the Idaho Statesman that he and CUSA commissioner Britton Banowsky "resurrected this consolidation concept with Conference USA from a football-only standpoint." A union between those schools could create one BCS automatic qualifying league, but there's no guarantee some of those schools won't also look elsewhere."

    No talks of Sun Belt...

This would hurt UNT. I hate to say it but we need SMU to go to the Big East. We really don't want conf merging we need for them to loosing and adding members. ! Let SMU move and it will give us options to move.

  4. What about the c-usa, mac, sunbelt and leftovers from mwc to make a super conference? I came across and like this idea since it would possible for UNT to make it into a conference like that.

Beebe needs to b working on this !! He is about to loose his 401k. Think about how many teams n the BIG 12 -2 are n the top 25. He should b fired!!!!!

  5. Playoffs are the next step. You r talking a national championship game that could demand Super Bowl Ad money ! You have to have it set up along the lines of the NCAA tourney where regional conferences are involved and have a shot even through they may not b in a $UPER CONF. This would help prevent lawsuits based on antitrust.

  6. This isn't about maintaining AQ status! With 4 super conferences and maybe 6 regional conf. the future is football playoffs! This is where ESPN wants to go and over time u r talking billions. This will also help satisfy the teams that r not n the $uper conf because they would also get a shot at the big game. NCAA eg.

  7. Hats off to everyone involved and responsible for Saturday's scene. Legit. Finally. That was exactly what a Division I football experience should feel like and well worth flying out after work Friday and back in time for work Monday morning.

    Some observations...

    - This team will still win 4 or 5 games this season. I'll probably make some game observations in some of the existing threads, but I was very impressed with the team in the first half against a decidedly more talented team...especially considering the debacle in Miami. Obviously we're gonna get smacked next weekend, but I like our chances against a now 0-2 Indiana, and maybe even Tulsa, fresh off back-to-back games with top 10 teams.

    - The Alumni Pavilion is great. Once the landscaping is complete, I would be hard-pressed to find a lovelier venue outside of a college football stadium to sit back and have a beer than on the pavilion's patio.

    - Fabulous tailgate scene over next to the stadium. Props to the Greeks...and I imagine the actual Greek...for setting up not just a big time culinary scene, but also a few adding stages for some live tunes. That skinny, long-haired country singer with the lovely blonde was a nice treat.

    - Once (ok...it's still "if") this program gets the wheels back on the rails, and if we can pull a few big name opponents to help sell that place out, the Hill opposite the alumni side will be a great place to watch a sold out football game.

    - I can't believe people would actually complain about parking. We rolled up about 1:00, parked for free in a half-full lot opposite the Super Pit...fixed a cocktail and grabbed the 12-pack of Modelo and had an easy 15-20 minute walk over to the stadium, with a brief stop off at a friend's tailgate next to Fouts. If that walk is too much for anyone under about 70 you may want to consider a switch to a bit healthier life-style. Or simply toughen up.

    - Lastly, and most importantly...for the love of God, alumni side...please stand up at the very least on third down. If you can't get up for this game I don't have much faith that you'll get up for future games. We now have a decided home-field advantage...crowd noise forced false starts and timeouts from the Houston offense in the first half and Summelin even said the atmosphere had them out of sorts in the first half.

The most frustrating part of the third quarter was not being picked apart by a Heisman candidate quarterback, rather it was the 5 or 6 key third downs while the game was still very much in doubt that somehow only managed about an 1/8 of the upper bowl to stand up and make noise. I don't expect everyone to imbibedly eschew decorum, jump up and down and yell until hoarse like I'm willing to, however I do expect you to stand up, clap, maybe give a nice outside voice "let's go D." It doesn't take much...if you stand, people around you will start to stand...it's like doing the wave, only less gay. The team was begging you...and the response I saw when I looked back at the crowd behind me from the front of 206 was near apathy. This can't continue.

Worse, those sitting on their hands were also some of the ones bitching about scheme or execution or play-calling as if they were football experts...they're unwilling to do their part, but still feel the right to be so critical.

Our fan-base has a long way to go to match the quality of our facilities now.
