Just looking at who we have lost, guys like Mo, Drez, Reecy etc has the portal really worked out that well for them? Seems to me they sort of disappeared on these other rosters. They were big time valuable pieces here. You see it in football as well with Brammer not even cracking the starting lineup at Vandy. Is there not an argument to be made that jumping ship is not always the best solution or does NIL money make it a moot point? Not to mention, loyalty and sticking true to commitments are lessons that can pay dividends later in life. There will always be a stigma on these guys.
I also believe if you transfer out for portal or NIL or whatever you should not be eligible for the UNT Hall of Fame.

Guy has had a tremendous record. Question is can he recruit? He will need to bring in a higher level player being in the AAC. That said, he looks like a damn solid hire.

What is the point spread for the Wisconsin vs. North Texas NIT game?
Wisconsin (20-14) is a 1.5-point favorite over North Texas (29-7).
What are each team's records in neutral-site games?
North Texas is 5-2 in neutral site games this season, while Wisconsin is 3-2. The game is being played at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
What is the money line for Wisconsin vs. North Texas?
Wisconsin is -125 (a $125 bet would net you $100). North Texas is +105 (a $100 bet gets you $105).
What is the over/under point total for Wisconsin vs. North Texas?
The over/under point total is 115.5, which signals a low-scoring affair. That's not surprising given where the teams rank defensively.
The two teams are nearly even in scoring average with Wisconsin at 65.6 and North Texas 64.7.
The Badgers allow 63.8 points per game, which is good enough for 30th in the country (363 teams). Wisconsin has held two of their NIT opponents below that mark (Bradley 62 points and Oregon 58).

On the same day that University of Wisconsin men’s basketball advanced to the National Invitation Tournament semifinals with a 61-58 win over Oregon, its soon-to-be NIT semifinal opponent had a close win of its own to secure a spot in Las Vegas.
North Texas (29-7) will meet UW (20-14) at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas for the penultimate round of the NIT on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
The No. 3-seed Mean Green’s quarterfinal win was its 29th of the season, besting No. 1-seeded Oregon State 65-59. North Texas was 16-4 in Conference USA play this year, but was bounced in the second round of the conference tournament by University of Alabama-Birmingham. Since then, the Mean Green have not allowed any of their NIT opponents to reach 60 points.

North Texas has one of the best statistical defenses in the entire country. In fact, no Division I men’s basketball team holds opponents to a lower scoring average, only surrendering 55.6 points per contest — almost exactly on par with its NIT average of 55.7 per game. Per KenPom, the Mean Green are ranked No. 25 in adjusted defensive efficiency and force opponents into the seventh-lowest effective field goal percentage (44.6%) in the nation.

Just now, rojomojo said:When Mac leaves for Tech, I have a dreadful feeling that the AD will pull a "Texas moment" and only reach out to coaches within a 100 mile radius of Denton. Why is this such a negative aspect? It boils down to the fact that this UNT job should be much more valuable than just throwing the coaching job to somebody found within the "good ol boy" coaching network of Texas. College basketball is an entirely different beast than college football. Local recruiting and high school connections are not nearly as important in basketball than football. Take a look at the current UNT roster, most of these guys are either found through national basketball camps, tournaments, and the recruiting portal. Part of what made Mac succuscful at UNT was his ability to recruit on a national level and bring interest from guys all across the country, therefore establishing a national brand, and elevating the program from what it has ever been.
With that being said, here are my suggestions...
Shantay Legans, Portland
Austin Claunch, Nicholls State
Bob Richey, Furman
Sorry man, I am calling bullshit on that. Ross Hodge is a great coach and he is already with us. If Mac leaves we owe Ross this job for what he has done for us. If we pass on him it would be a slap in the face to both him and Mac.

Why did this have to come out tonight? Come on Goodman, that really sucks. Could you not have waited until after the game.
Now we can’t even enjoy the damn game knowing Mac is gone.

Not to sound to pessimistic, but if Abou wasn't available 2 days ago, and we didn't see him in practice photos posted by the team yesterday, my guess is he's out today. Have no idea what his family issue is but wish everyone involved the best. Seems like a great kid and the kind of team player every coach would love to have. GMG!
Agreed - Would have been announced he was back by now. He’s out for sure. UNT Sportz is so snakebit!

As Jalie Mitchell's photo now pops up on each page, I have two thoughts. I hate that it didn't work out for Jalie, and she was released as head women's basketball coach. Jalie Mitchell is a very attractive woman.
I hear you but I am still proud of the AD for having the balls to make the move. RV and Wren would have put it off.

I disagree with her recruiting at a high level. This was always my biggest disappointment. For someone very connected to SW Dallas County, she never made any headway at Duncanville, DeSoto or Cedar Hill with the impact girls there and other places.
Any coach you may have in mind for us @Cooley

Good for him. I think given time he can rebuild his career if he chooses to be an assistant or in a supporting role.
