Not from me.  Nothing in Lanier's background suggested he was going to do any different at SMU.  I did think NIL would help him.....but he wouldn't utilize it.  Strange.

Enfield isn't taking us to the final four.  But he has a long history of high level recruiting and rebuilding, which is what we need to do quickly.  We can get to where USC is, then reevaluate.  Probably the best we could hope for

Most coaches and ADs feel like they have to re-invent themselves every 7 years or so to new locations to become relevant again.  It was Enfield's time, so he got out of L.A.

I will not poke fun at you saying you think Edwards will return like an hour before it dropped he was leaving lol, but I am cautiously optimistic about most of the others.

Similar to Chandler Rogers, I did not see Jason really publicly engaging with Mean Green nation on social media. Meanwhile Rubin's mom and Aaron's HAVE been, and now even CJ's mom and Cotton's mom, have been big, noticeable parts of UNT Twitter. I feel like they are truly part of the Mean Green family, as much as one can be in the days of the portal and NIL.

It's sad we have to rely on social media response to judge a player's buy-in to our program.  No loyalty to school anymore, only to $$ for many players.  I hate NIL and the Portal!

I hope eventually we fill these spots left by guys like Morgan and Moore with players who can regularly be in the rotation. I'd love to have 10 used guys... they don't all get 10 minutes a game or just garbage time minutes, but 10 guys who can be ready and contribute and provide 20+ minutes if needed due to injuries or foul trouble.

Agree.  The bench was a weak spot for us this past season, especially when we had injuries but couldn't backfill with much.  Ross needs to find more players that he has confidence in and allows to actually "play".

    Here's my proposal:

We could easily do the PAC, if it has viable media rights and local teams too like in your scenario.

North Texas' location allows us to go East or West.   $mut would cry if we got a P5 patch too without giving up concessions to get in like they did, lol!

Well the university would need to pay them like employees , which would entitle them to employee benefits. The NIL has nothing to do with it. Their remuneration could be is the form of a salary or additional benefits such as tuition, meals, and housing, which would be assigned a monetary value. They also would be entitled to Workman's Compensation so if they were injured they could file a claim. This new world is a real can of worms but eventually will work itself out although we might not like the ending.

That is the way it is headed, with some college athletes already granted the right to unionize.  There is push also to have any athletic NIL distribution be handled by a player's school, vs third-party donor group.  I imagine any formal "employee" designation will lead to having a value attached to any education expenses, to make it part of a compensation package.

What we have right now is a game without rules. Games without rules are not fun. All of this player movement is bad for the game. College sports need fans. It is hard for fans to get emotionally invested in these teams when your favorite player ditches your favorite team to go play for someone else over and over again. Will be interesting to see how this shakes out: whether the NCAA can get an anti-trust exemption and put things back similar to how they were before or if the student-athletes get made employees who bargain collectively. And how is all of this going to impact the non-revenue sports? What a mess.

Agree.  It's like trying to herd cats now!

If you want to put players under contract you would need to treat them as employees with the same benefits you provide all other employees. In summary, we are in violent agreement that the system is broken until it isn't and Chandler Rogers lands in our lap. I think in the near future the Power conferences such as Big 10 and SEC will spin off and do their own thing leaving the Group of whatever number to put their own division together leaving 1AA programs alone. In the meantime we are stuck in NIL/Transfer Portal Hell.

That works.   Toss out their free education, books, meals, dorm and medical and let them pay for it with their NIL, like real employees have to.

Maybe because we were 2-9 with that schedule. Coaches and possible AD’s aren’t employed that long with those kind of records… not to mention recruiting and etc

In 1995 we were basically Independent, moving from 1-AA Southland Conference to 1-A Big West Conference in 1996.  We were limited in who we could schedule and where the game would be.

Legally the NCAA lost in court and can do nothing. All the players are doing is following the example set by the coaches. I didn't see much if any criticism of coach Mac heading to TT for more money so why are a few of you blasting the players for doing the same. Amateur college sports as we know it is dead. We need to accept it and move on but to continue to bash players who played for us and then entered the portal is childish.

Coaches are under contracts, many with buyout stipulations if they want to leave before the end of it.   They can't just walk away like a player can now.  Scholarships used to have sit-out rules if you transferred.   Put players under contracts too, with buyouts for the new school to pay.

Took FCGU to the Sweet 16.  Eight appearances in the NCAA tournament including another Sweet 16 and an Elite 8.  Also regarded as one the truly elite recruiters in the country.  Signed a six year extension with USC after last season.

You mean after the previous season.  This season he went 15-18 and many wanted him gone!  He will fail at $mut too...they all do.

What trend is that?  Is one person a trend?  Are you insinuating that there will be more to follow soon?

I'm thinking perhaps he means Perry and now Edwards.  Our leading scorers getting poached by bigger programs every year.  This is happening in football and even softball as our best pitcher got bought by OU.

This is where binding player contracts will have to be mandated, like for coaches, with salaries and buyouts if they want to leave the contract early.

Now since the minor league soccer team folded, I wonder if they will extend the bleachers a few rows closer to the field. Field suites look terrible.

Not nearly as bad as the SJSU re-do with a building wall and some random beach loungers to watch the game from, lol...

  13. I believe Colleges will soon have to go to playing-contracts with athletes before much longer, similar to the NFL.  Mainly to lock up players from moving after each season.

The pay will have to be school-issued (but can be donor funded) with cap limits set on rosters determined by conference membership.  Players can still sign endorsement deals outside the school playing contracts.  But they can't leave for another school until either released from their current school contract, or stipulated buyout paid, or settlement agreement.  Similar to NFL.

A buyout from another school would help the athlete to move up in conferences and help the losing school recruit his replacement.

Looks like coach Andy Enfield is moving up from USC to take the head coaching job at SMU.

LOL.  He was 15-18 last season and on the hot seat to be fired.

Glad you found a rescue dog to lead you into the ACC basement.
