Morris will be okay as the head coach as soon as he commits to a defensive coordinator who is strong. Carthel was my choice when we hired Morris and I would love for them to try to bring him on as a next defensive coordinator. He has consistently dealt with turnover in both his coaches and players and still puts out solid defenses
The bigger issue in my eyes is that as the HC you are basically the CEO, you don't do the nitty gritty work, but you make sweeping decisions that guide the ship. If you can't evaluate that people have the skills to do the job, and make a decision to change when it's clear they didn't meet expectations, how can I trust you can guide the ship? The focus then starts to shift abou them not being able to do their job, to you not being able to do yours.

Am I reading too much into this or is CM really isolated on the sideline? He doesn't seem to be hyping up teammates or talking to them after plays? No. "Hey that was my fault, we'll get it on the next one." type of gestures. I don't think it has only been this game too.

Which according to some connected Tech alums I know Tech is looking to buy that 27 game out and add another home game.
So tired of this, make any P4 team play in Denton first so they can't buy out the return game. That what USF does.

I think because if we can ever figure it out and know and understand how to run a proper athletics program then I do think anything is possible. I don't mean to say that there isn't upside here and things cannot change but taking out the financial part of things, the fact that this school hardly ever makes the right hire is just baffling.
It feels that so many other schools with so much less are able to do so much more and it just takes finding and hiring the right coaches and program builders.
This is the key to everything. The athletic department is the most important piece to success. You need leaders who are always pushing for better things and never settling. You need an athletic director and department that can accurately evaluate hires. UNT has never been able to put a good staff together, that's why we haven't been able to get good hires outside of McCasland.

The first sale out at NT will be next season when Tech comes to Denton. Most will be Tech fans.
That's not until 2027, and I can almost guarantee you that Tech will try to buy that game out. There's no way they are coming to Denton.

Who wants to restart that "Fire Eric Morris" thread?
At least until it gets shut down again.

Of course that's a great point. The PAC has $65 million to spend if I'm not mistaken. Are they covering all of the MWC buyouts? I don't think so but I'm not sure. I read they were just helping so who knows what that means. I'd imagine they earmarked some for the MWC 4 and some for whoever else they want. You also have to consider what the next AAC deal will be without Houston, Cincy, UCF, and even SMU. Now imagine if Memphis and Tulane leave. It'd be CUSA 2.0 and we don't want that. The media deal would be a fraction of what it is now so we'd be at a loss in money over the course of a 10 year media deal when factoring the $10 million buyout versus better long-term media money. The only option is invest now for a better deal later. Otherwise you're always stuck in conference purgatory.
We cry about UNT never making the right investments in athletics. This is the prime opportunity. We better do everything possible to be included.
The AAC plan is to have the newbies invest and eventually build the conference back up to what it was. If that doesn't happen then the AAC made the wrong choices on who to add, so we'll see how that plays out in the future.
The most prudent thing to me is to jump as a block, assuming we are included. You talk to Tulane/Memphis/UTSA/Rice/whomever and you get on the same page as to what it would take to get you to move. UNT and UTSA jumping without anyone else without a significant bump in $$$ would be foolish.

The PAC is helping the MWC schools pay buyouts with the money retained from former members and, for UNT at least, travel to the west coast once or twice per year is no different in travel than going to the east coast once or twice per year. I think the move would make sense for the western AAC schools if they're offered a spot.
They are helping MW schools, and that's smart to get them onboard. Notice I was speaking specifically about the legacy teams in the AAC, they have a higher point of entry than the new teams. The main point was, does the PAC have enough money to pull legacy AAC members away? The bar between exit fees, media payouts, and media coverage is pretty high. If they don't, the question then becomes does it make sense for us to go to a conference that doesn't have Memphis, USF, and Tulane? Let's not forget we just got out of 2 years without conference distribution, so forfeiting another 2 years while having to payout over $10M in exit fees is something the AD has to think about. Like I said, everything depends on the money.

The potential for being left out is going to create a ton of anxiety. PAC is making a move to create the best non P4 conference in the country that will almost assuredly get the one at-large bid to the playoff. You better believe there is gonna be an all out war between schools in the MWC and AAC to get in.
It'll all come down to money, if it's not right there won't be any interest from the AAC schools. The legacy members make $7-8M a year from media distribution only, and with a $10M buyout and forfeiture of 2 years of distribution the money needs to be enough to make it worth it. Added travel will also need to be taken into consideration. What numbers could this new PAC pull? I'd guess the AAC teams would need something like $12-15M to make the move desirable. The MWC teams get $4-5M a year so a bump to $10M makes sense for them, a bump to $10M for the AAC schools doesn't.

The PAC took the best MWC assets first = Boise and SDSU. Not sure why CSU and Fresno over AF and UNLV?
I think now they are in evaluation mode with the new members, getting media estimates, before their next move.
It will be a showdown between PAC and AAC to see who blinks first. I bet AAC is already on the phone to AF. If I'm Jared, I'm on the phone to UTSA, Memphis, and Tulane seeking a group effort to either go or stay as a foursome.
From what I've read UNLV might have problems with moving without Nevada, as the state legislators might make a big deal/make it difficult to do. As for AFA, with CSU you have a team in Colorado already so they might want to expand the footprint first. Also people are skeptical how the academies will compete in the future since they don't have any NIL.

Why are some so high on Rice? Athletics are a distant second thought, as evidenced by the quality of most (all?) of their athletic facilities. I get their academics but honestly that is ALL they bring to the table.
I think the thought is that they have the money and donors to really up their athletics if they wanted to. The impression is that they could even outspend SMU if they wanted.

I don't think of the 4 programs you mentioned only UNLV is a real consideration. CSU and the AFA are in the same market so the Falcons are out. Hawaii is heavily subsided by the MWC who might no longer be able to contribute to its travel expenses forcing the Rainbow Warriors to drop football. However the MWC could pick up UTEP and NMSU and move forward . Personally I don't see any advantage for UNT moving from one P6 conference to another when the money is the same, the travel expenses for all your sports are astronomical, you can't compete the other programs NIL money, and your away games kick off at 9:30 pm.
I'll say (and take this with a huge grain of salt) that rumors on different boards and sites say they are looking at a $100m a year TV deal from some TV partner or streaming partner. Others are saying $10M to $14M a team, depending on who they get. Again just rumors and "insider info" I have seen around. I would expect the 6 current teams to go forward and shop deals around with different team configurations and try to lure teams that way. I would think $10M a year would be the minimum to get the western AAC members to listen.

If it’s a feeding frenzy, the Big12 may be buyers also.
For now I think the GOR is keeping that conference together, or it would be like sharks to bait. I can't remember if FSU is still in court about the GOR, but if they could have found a way out I think they would have by now.

One thing I will say is UNT is making a big push for engagement. Last week it was to set a student attendance record, and next home game it's to sell out the game vs. Wyoming. Coincidence that this is happening during this PAC announcement? Maybe, but there is no way the internal AD doesn't know about certain rumblings.

Anyone want to fill me in on the whole "The ACC is imploding" stuff? The only thing I've ever heard about the ACC having problems would be losing Clemson and Florida State, but even then they'd probably be in a better position than any other G5 conference.
People think if those 2 leave it will open the floodgates for others to exit as well. The ACC schools want to make as much as the B1G and SEC so if there is a path to leave for Clem/FSU why couldn't the others. It would help solidify the P2 if they can grab the rest of the valuable brands like Virginia, UNC, Miami, etc.

2000 tickets is a nice group. I hope all the tickets actually get used and not just “bought” like $mut does.
I thought that too. Hopefully they actually show up.

I doubt we would be considered, but it would all come down to money. We will eventually be making $7M a year in the AAC, plus it takes $10M and 27 months notice to leave the conference. I don't think they can get a media deal high enough to match or even pass what the AAC gets.

The reaching out and connection to Peterbilt is a nice move, it shows effort by the AD to get more involved with local businesses.

I probably have a little nostalgia having transferred to North Texas in 1998 so the Dickey years were in my wheelhouse...but I think objectively, we didn't get our "butts kicked" in OOC. We didn't win (and there was always an argument that DD was too conservative in those games) but our defense usually kept us in some of those games until the talent difference showed up. Especially early in Dickey's tenure. The other thing, we played some BIG programs in that time because we had NO money: OU, UT, Bama, A&M, LSU, Arkansas
Different eras, different standards....I get it.
The bodybag games were an understandable outcome, and the dept needed money. The 2-10 G5 record shows we weren't even a good G5 school compared to our peers. I'm not trying to disparage what those teams did, they helped get us to where we are today, but the reality is we weren't a very good team outside of our weak conference.

From 2001 - 2004 UNT was 4-20 in non-conference games. In those 24 games, UNT lost by an average score of 27.9 to 14.3.
P4 record: 1-10
G5 record: 2-10
FCS record: 1-0
Needless to say, there are plenty of bad memories....
This. I see people looking back at that time fondly, but the reality is the Sunbelt was extremely weak, anytime UNT stepped out of conference they got their butts kicked. We were a big fish in a small pond. I know people won't like it, but it's the truth.

What’s wrong with the band? Sounded fine to me. But what do I know , I was only in it for 3 years.
Seems like the quality of the band has been sliding for the past few years. They look unorganized and not attentive in the stands, I can hear them start and then many others come in because they weren't prepared. Also does this director know how a football game works? On an opposing teams 3rd down you are supposed to play an intimidating song like Dies Irae to get the crowd going.

Oh wow, that's huge if true. Weren't they the 2 Texas transfers that were very hyped up? No official word on what they did or if they are for sure off the team?

What happened with those 5 we were missing from defense that were suspended? Did we have any of them back for this game?
