  1. Rick, Concerning your first post on this subject. You are an %^*$#@. Thank you.
  2. My opinion is this. There is tremendous apathy in the fan base. We lose too much, you say. You have to give the fans something to show up for, you say. You can make all the excuses you want to, but until the alumni, students and fans start packing that stadium your going to continue to struggle. I did some checking this weekend and I looked at 20 different schools with enrollments all at least 5,000 students below ours. All games were at home. All of the schools were at .500 or below. All 20 schools had at least 40,000 asses in seats. We have a fine-ass stadium that's not ever full. You guys want to treat the symptoms and not the disease. Hell we can hire and fire coaches and AD's until the freaking cows come home and it will continue to not make a damn bit of difference. All I read on here is all we have to do is hire the right coach and all will be well. Bullshit. A couple of years ago we played UT San at Apogee for essentially the West. Was that stadium full? Hell no. The very idea that we played a bowl game in effing Dallas and less than 40,000 show up. We have 100,000 alumni in the metroplex for God's sake. Let's face it. School pride is something we are not good at as a whole. I'll wind up this tirade with this. The day before the bowl game, I was talking to two couples from down the street. All were alumni. I asked them if they were going to the game. One answered that they were going to a movie and the other couple were going to hit the after Xmas sales. I just hung my head and walked away. WTF!!
  3. I'm sure UNTexas wouldn't have a problem if Bill Maher was asked to speak.
  4. If you don't agree with who the speaker is, don't attend. If he speaks to a half full venue, then you have gotten your point across. All this back and forth is pointless.
  5. I don't understand what part of the word "rule" is so damn hard to comprehend. Good God All Mighty!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. One of the thing that bugs me is when people say, "oh if we just do this or that, we'll be a lot better off". When I got into coaching that's one of the first things I found out. It ain't that simple. We had a situation one year exactly like the one Mac is dealing with here. We had lost some really good seniors from the previous year's team and although we had some good young players on the team, they were just that, young. We finished that year with a 5-5 record and all of a sudden according to some of the fans we didn't have a damn clue what we were doing even though we had gone 12-1 the year before. We worked our asses off in off-season right along with the kids and went 13-1. We moved the ball and scored and could consistently stop people. What was the difference? We returned a lot of experienced players that we didn't have the year before. They were bigger, faster and more confident. I think Mac and the coaches are just as disappointed as any of you guys are. I think this off-season will determine how this program moves forward. If the returning players buy in you're probably going to like what you see next year. Mac hasn't all of a sudden become a bad coach. He's got young players this year that will be better next year.
  7. Have watched this forum for years now. Amazing to see the highs and lows. I'm a new contributor. I have only one thing to say today. Some of you guys are the same guy that sits right behind you at a game that everyone wishes would shut the hell up. Bitch, moan, complain. Repeat. The one thing that amazes me about this sight and ones like it is that self-proclaimed football geniuses are not in short supply. I played high school ball on a state championship team and coached varsity high school football for 11 years. That doesn't make me a football genius, but it does make it possible for me to understand why a team is performing or not. I'll never forget the joy of listening to dads standing behind you at the fence (about 10-15 ft. behind you) calling us dumbass coaches because we wouldn't call this play or another. We literally worked at our jobs 24/7. We rarely saw our families from July to December. The idea that some damn dairy farmer who's kid couldn't run out of sight in three days needed to be fed the football 15 or 20 times a game, knows more about the ins and outs of the team is for lack of a better way to put it, stupidity. Mac knows more about the game than I do by a mile. He's been at it for over 30 years. I'll shut up now and listen to all who oppose me. One more question. What qualifications do you have that allows you to make determinations about play calling and personnel decisions? I want the team to do well too. I'm just not going to sit in the cheap seats and be a self-proclaimed football genius. Now fire away!!!!!!!!
