Both should be home dates but don't look for any big-name schools. Maybe UTA. We have to take what we can get at home.

if it was a big name my bet is that they want a 2 for 1

you're probably right on UTA - they havent released their schedule either

Absolutely. I'm just saying, this is the start of conference play in the AAC with back-to-back nationally televised games against a team that's 1-3 and a team that's 2-3. The season is not lost. Conference play starts. Most teams have scheme weaknesses and personnel holes. Now is when we see if this staff has what it takes to put up a competitive fight and steal some wins. Couldn't have a better scheduling start to AAC play.

yep. believe there was a similar situation of sorts in 2013 when we ripped off a 5 game winning streak to open CUSA play

You're right. One of the reasons our school moved on from SL was exactly this, correct? We're about to find out if Morris can get the team playing its best for important, televised matchups. Our next two games are winnable conference matchups on CBS Sports Network and ESPN U. I'd say those are two pretty big games. Time to crank it up and get these guys playing their best, coach Morris.

I mean it would've been nice had they played their best at FIU too

  4. My only complaint is that we have a habit of embarrassing ourselves (football) when we play for a national audience (Arkansas aside).

See: the past 6 bowl games other than last year's

    Cal this year

SMU and UTSA last year (CBSSN)

    Marshall in 2021 (CBSSN)

Charlotte and SMU in 2020 (ESPNU and CBSSN)

    Houston in 2019 (CBSSN)

    Any national game in 2015

LATech (CBSSN) and UTEP (FSN) in 2014

  5. It will be interesting to see an overall comparison between him and the other new HC hire in Texas, GJ Kinne over the next few years.

clearly Kinne started off with a bang- 4-1 with a win over baylor

im a little concerned with only a 14 pt win over a mediocre fcs team. I’m also willing to give it a year. Just cause you start off with a bang doesn’t mean you can sustain it. Good program builders take time

    Some interesting notes in there.

Army has some  games scheduled that could get cancelled when they move to the AAC. Maybe there could be some interesting schools (Coastal Carolina? Air Force? Tulsa? Syracuse? Boston College?) looking to fill a 2028 slot who might want a home and home with us?

If that's a clown show then send in the clowns. The atmosphere at those games in Boulder is incredible. Deion took a program that was a doormat for most of the last 20 years and put it on the map again. College GameDay has already been there.

In hindsight it looks like there was no chance Deion would come here. He got a P5 school.

But sometimes a coach would have come here who was about to become a big deal elsewhere. Jim Harbaugh interviewed at UNT in 2006 to succeed Dickey.

i remember everyone talking about this but i always wonder if these interviews are just practice for a guy like him

I totally understand why SMU would do this, but it's one hell of a risky bet. So far, what SMU has done is to buy an upgrade to first class on the Titanic, but after all the lifeboats have already left. There's still two stages left in this realignment until it settles down - first a final few pickups out of the ACC, and then either a P2 with one Fox and one ESPN, or a 32-team premiership with the Big 10 and SEC dropping some deadweight.

What SMU is betting on is that the ACC without its major teams will still be a step above the other conferences, but I think that's a risky bet, and their value is suspect. After the ACC's raided, there will be a further, titanic shakeout into regionals or into the pro-rel system the Mountain Pacific is considering.

In either case, if I'm a conference I have an easy ask for SMU - why not pay us $400 million to take you? SMU's set a precedent that they're willing to throw money, and while that can get you into the ACC for $200 million, it also means that with the new endzone facility, $350 million that could have been spent elsewhere on campus or on athletics is off the board, and that you could end up being in back in the American for $400 million a few years later.

Good luck to the Ponies, but I think it's telling that other teams with private money haven't even suggested doing this (hi Temple or BYU pre-XII).

Wonder if Liberty tries this down the road.

I don't think BYU would offer money this brazenly as it comes out of LDS's coffers....

Have to jump in here and give my 2 cents on adding Army to AAC.

I think it is a fantastic add and I hope it happens.   They are a storied program with great tradition and a great away game destination.  They have a national following and there are not many (if any) teams left out there that have that.

For UNT, I would say our last home game with them was absolutely one of the best attended games we have had in my time following the program.

I never understood why Wren decided to end the series and of course when we did UTSA gobbled it right up.

I have heard that Littrell said it was a tough game to prepare for and that we always had lots of injuries due to cut blocks etc.  Sorry but I think preparation is part of the deal, and if the blocking is legal or illegal it is something the conference will need to deal with.

Hope it happens as it would be a great conference replacement for SMU.  I also hope we keep our non-conf series with SMU going forward and I would think they would want to do that as well.  I also would hope Aresco looks at adding Air Force especially if we could get all three under the same AAC umbrella.  The service academies are just a lot of fun for fans.  I still remember when I think the Navy jets flew over Fouts and it shook the ground underneath.  They were super low and it was an awesome moment.

Would be cool but we dont have room in the schedule til 2028. Would love to get rid of that WMU series though. I do wonder if they'll proritize scheduling Texas teams for non con now that they're playing east coast, Cal and Stanford for conference games. I'd hope they think of us but could also see them scheduling SHSU, Tarlteton for easy home games.
