@Eastwood Eagle It's always nice to meet a fellow Victorian! I actually know several people from Victoria who live here in Denton including my girlfriend, my best friend, and the drummer for my band.

If you are in Hen in the Cocks I graduated with the singer and use to jam with the drummer back in high school (I'm a bassist). Small world. I have heard y'alls stuff. Keep it up man.

There are plenty of folks from SMU and A&M law willing to take public service jobs or any legal jobs at the moment, trust me. They aren't filling a need and opened at probably the worst possible time.

Could not have said it any better. I think a lot of people miss this point. One of the proposed reasons for opening the school was to provide legal access to those in need in the North Texas area. But, as you mention, students at every single law school are already drawn to public service and non-profit work. When I was at UHLC, I would guess around 15 - 20% of our class were interested in some sort of public service or non-profit. This need is already covered by law schools.

When you crack away at that reason, it's hard to find another legitimate reason to say UNT-Law is necessary for the community.

I disagree with Vito on this one, this is good news for North Texas and any schools who are located in fertile recruiting ground.  There is no limit on unofficial visits and this means we will have more kids who can reasonably get to our campus.  The loss of the camps hurts schools like La. Tech and UTSA more who need the camps to lure players from DFW and Houston.  This is actually really good news for UNT.

    Agreed.

Here is a little Texas Penal Code Education for you:

38.03.  RESISTING ARREST, SEARCH, OR TRANSPORTATION. (a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally prevents or obstructs a person he knows is a peace officer or a person acting in a peace officer's presence and at his direction from effecting an arrest, search, or transportation of the actor or another by using force against the peace officer or another.

    • (b) It is no defense to prosecution under this section that the arrest or search was unlawful.
    • (c) Except as provided in Subsection (d), an offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor.
    • (d) An offense under this section is a felony of the third degree if the actor uses a deadly weapon to resist the arrest or search

And for those who broke free and ran at the HOD bowl:

38.04.  EVADING ARREST OR DETENTION. (a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally flees from a person he knows is a peace officer attempting lawfully to arrest or detain him.

    • (b) An offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor, except that the offense is:
      • (1) a state jail felony if:
      • (A) the actor has been previously convicted under this section; or
      • (B) the actor uses a vehicle while the actor is in flight and the actor has not been previously convicted under this section;
      • (2) a felony of the third degree if:
      • (A) the actor uses a vehicle while the actor is in flight and the actor has been previously convicted under this section; or
      • (B) another suffers serious bodily injury as a direct result of an attempt by the officer from whom the actor is fleeing to apprehend the actor while the actor is in flight; or
      • (3) a felony of the second degree if another suffers death as a direct result of an attempt by the officer from whom the actor is fleeing to apprehend the actor while the actor is in flight.
    • (c) In this section, "vehicle" has the meaning assigned by Section 541.201, Transportation Code.
    • (d) A person who is subject to prosecution under both this section and another law may be prosecuted under either or both this section and the other law.

Feel free to continue this argument with the Texas Penal Code for as long as you like.

"Peace officer" means a person elected, employed, or appointed as a peace officer under Article 2.12, Code of Criminal Procedure, Section 51.212 or 51.214, Education Code, or other law.

This does not apply to CSC.
