When Shorter is Healthy he is a monster
Absolutely. Don't forget about this kid for a new contributor on the outside in '21: https://meangreensports.com/sports/football/roster/detraveon-brown/4711
Super talented, just needs to learn the system (as do the majority of true Freshmen).

Here is a good article breaking down Coastal's offense. With our stable of RB's, I would love to see something like this added to our running game.
UNT averages 230.2 YPG on 5.38 YPC
CC averages 223.2 YPG on 5.06 YPC
Safe to say both team's rushing schemes are working very well this year seeing as they are Top 15 in the country. One can only imagine ours can improve in 2021 with a collective group of OL with another year of experience under Bloesch and Adaway & Co.

Any possibility for CB to go to Texas?

Except Drummond ain't small! Prototypical QB size all the way. 6'4" / 210lbs.
exactly - the original post meant the kid being from a small Oklahoma High School

Really excited about this kid! With the HC and his new QB coach ties to Littrell, let's all hope that he can come in here and be as successful as the last small Oklahoma HS QB!

Only two players from last year's line are playing, M. Mose, who switched positions and Brammer. Lot's of young new faces which makes this even more impressive to me.
Absolutely. The future of the OL is bright under the leadership of Bloesch.

Excellent article, and credit to these guys for stepping in and taking ownership of that role in the program.

Rare but they do happen. Just proves that these tests aren't always accurate. False Positives, False Negatives, it happens
Absolutely it happens both ways. Just more of the reason why excessive testing of athletes with zero symptoms is entirely overkill, and frankly unnecessary.

Bruh. What? This is not the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. This is standard testing... The results are anything but "sketchy".
For the safety of their hearts and lungs - they should know before going out there for our entertainment if they are at risk of putting themselves in harm's way. Same way they get a physical to play. Or need to pass the concussion protocol.A couple of routine fundamental questions for you:
1) Are you suggesting that all COVID testing is accurate?
2) Are you aware how many of these athletes who are tested regularly are getting a "positive" result in between multiple "negative" results?

You can also get a false positive
Exactly. This blanket testing protocol is unnecessary and out of control. Healthy 18-23 year olds without symptoms should not be subject to testing that has sketchy (at best) results.

Absolutely, we need a good North-South runner in this scheme. Adaway has certainly proven that he's capable of doing that.
On this week's press conference, Littrell said that Adaway practiced yesterday.

Since he is not on this weeks depth chart, maybe he is not back yet though.

Anterrious Gray has improved quit a bit. He had a number of false starts earlier in the year, but has cleaned that up and is playing well. I am actually quite surprised with our OL and think they are doing a good job. They can always improve, but I don't think the OL is anywhere near the liability I expected coming in to this season.
Absolutely. Gray is becoming an excellent player for us, especially in the first year out of JC. Add in Farrell next year, and we will have nearly turned the corner on our OL. Coach Bloesch is a stud at developing and teaching.

Darden is incredibly fun to watch! Not surprised that he is leading the country, and honestly, he could have a couple hundred more yards and a few more TD's with completions on some of the attempted deep balls.

Correct. Why was Tre Siggers 4th on the depth chart to start last season? Why was Oscar Adaway 3rd at the start of this season? Cole Brown has been pretty good, why was he behind Preston, Plantin, and Parish last season when they were struggling? How many more of these cases have never actually come to light?
The Murphy twins are just another example of us sandbagging on getting our most talented guys on the field. Can’t help but wonder if Lyles, who is a far superior athlete to Pirtle, could help give us some playmaking at tight end that we are lacking, with a QB who lives over the middle of the field. Pirtle, a converted receiver himself, only has 8 lbs and one more year of experience at tight end than Lyles. Is he really so much of a superior blocker that he gets the most snaps while Lyles gets zero? Just wanna see the group that gives us the best chance to win from the start.
Do you think that Lyles may have a hard time picking up the playbook & scheme with having such limited experience at TE? Pirtle is a savvy veteran.

Another walk-on in on the defense. Didn’t we recruit about a dozen LBs the last three or four years? We have a walk-on fullback and now this guy at LB. (yes I know Kyleb played LB)
https://meangreensports.com/sports/football/roster/silakivai-carmichael/4790
The LB's are the primary position group hit by the Covid issue, hence why the depth is all messed up.
1 hour ago, bstnsportsfan3 said:Wondering what happened to the Murphy Twins at LB? We seem so thin at a position I thought would be a strength!
No, see above.

Every time we talk about SMU’s roster it always gets brought up how much they are bolstered by P5 transfers. They started 2 P5 transfers on offense and 4 on defense.
While that is a decent amount, you would think half their starting lineup is made up of P5 transfers. It’s not. They have recruited very well at the high school and JUCO level, and have supplemented those signees with P5 transfers. Not the other way around. This is something we are starting to do more of with bringing in 3 P5 transfers over the last few months.
Like Jim showed, we started off recruiting very poorly under Littrell and have made huge improvements. We had some standouts who masked depth and talent issues across the board for a couple seasons. Now needing to rely on the 2017 class and remaining 2016 class guys to be our senior leaders, we are often going to be at a disadvantage when it comes to upperclassmen talent this season, and probably next season with everyone freezing their current eligibility.
But this is also a great opportunity to focus on developing our young talent. Feels like we have a lot of talent that we still haven’t seen much of this year. Hope that changes.
Exactly. Great post.

OFFENSE
-
Play calling was excellent
- Littrell is (and has been) the best coordinator on staff
-
Overall very impressed with the athleticism, skill, and depth of the WR's, RB's, and TE's
- Darden and Shorter are special
- It was good to see Simpson, Jackson, Ogunmakin, and Roberts get catches
- Tremendous depth at RB - positives for all of them to get game action
-
Bean & Aune did a nice job for the first game, and offered plenty for the coaches to clean up
- Remember this was the first "live action" since November 2019
-
O-Line had some struggles in the first half run game wise, but started imposing their will in the second half
- It appears we can expect to see a lot of this in 2020
- This appears to be a very formidable C-USA offense, and will be fun to watch as the season tracks forward
DEFNSE
- Scheme & play calling was vanilla against a formidable offense
-
D-Line is going to be fine
- Novil is an absolute stud, and the youngsters behind him inside are effective players
- We need to see more out of the DE position, but it was difficult given the quick nature of the HBU passing game; McCrae looks like a SEC DE from a physical frame standpoint
- LB's played well, made tackles in space
-
DB's did a nice job of keeping things in front of them
- Would like to see more out of Gaddie & Rucker as the year tracks forward
- Cam Johnson in the nickel appears to be a good move
- This unit needs more gain experience to play together against some different styles of offense, but there is clearly some talent on this unit
SPECIAL TEAMS
- Overall fun to watch (especially watching Coach Ekeler on the sidelines after big plays)
-
Coverage was outstanding
- More athleticism on this roster, more kids who can run should lead to better cover units
- Starting Kicker was out with injury
- Return game looked okay; not a lot of chances due to kickoff depth
-
Play calling was excellent

Has anyone heard if the Green Brigade will be present at home games this fall with all of the COVID restrictions and seating assignments? Hope they will be there. It will be a strange season without them. Glad we are able to start the season but it my seem like the Twilight Zone.
Yes, they will be present at home games. I believe it will be a limited group (versus the entire band of ~450 students) and they will only play in the stands due to C-USA rules.
