  1. It topped the overall list — its first time atop the Princeton Review chart — by ranking second in the use of hard liquor, third in beer drinking and 13th in marijuana smoking.

Marijuana smoking you say? Hmmmm...Ricky Williams, Ramonce Taylor....somebody better piss test Jamaal Charles and Selvin Young.

I knew there was an explanation for all this. It's in the culture.

  2. Yeah, let's not recruit a guy that's been arrested.

Let's just bail out current players hours before a bowl game.

Or let's have players rip ATM's out of the ground.

Or let's have star linebackers who are currently in the NFL who just happened to have a nice probation file when they were in school (I know, I worked in adult probation)

    Or lets......

I'm not saying let's open the floodgates to every felon we can....let's just see how this plays out and go from there.

  3. The NCAA's I-A Mendoza Line for average attendance is 15,000. Programs that fall short of that, in actual or paid attendance, over a rolling two-year period will receive a letter of non-compliance from the NCAA. Schools then enter a 10-year window during which they must meet the attendance standard or be placed on restricted membership -- which could take away their bowl eligibility.

Only one Sun Belt school was below the NCAA's 15,000-fan line last year: Louisiana-Monroe, which averaged 14,617. The MAC had six schools fall short (including the bottom three: Buffalo, Kent State and Eastern Michigan, all of whom averaged fewer than 9,000 fans) and the WAC had three.

I almost feel as if this part was included just for those who say nobody comes to our games because we're in the Sun Belt...then say we should join the WAC.

  4. I will be out there Friday night spending the night. I'll have my dinner on the grill that night, play some playstation, watch a few movies and talk football with anyone that wants to come. Then we'll wake up Saturday and tailgate all day.

If you want to have a row of tents just come park next to us. We'll be on the big lot next to the practice fields adjacent to the ticket office.

  5. I have only one reason why I love college football more than the NFL...North Texas.

I can say to all of my Cowboy fan friends "yep, I have a degree from NT. I spent four plus years there. Getting my job was easier because of my time spent there. I actually am a part of North Texas and their success really is my success."

This same reasoning though is why I despise BCS bandwagon fans.

  6. Gee, where have I heard the whole "Phillips takes too many sacks" comment before? Oh yeah, all of last year.

And I'll ask again...why not let Woody play and if he gets himself hurt bring in the next guy. Better to have the potential for explosiveness back there than to bypass it in fear of an injury.

  7. I'm 60% on the UT game. Our flight leaves really early sunday morning. It depends on how much packing and stuff we get done before that Saturday.

I'm planning on going the the scrimmage next Saturday. If we have the tickets by then. (she still hasn't gotten them in the mail) I can bring them to you then. If not, I work in Dallas and I can just meet up with you anywhere.

Once I get the tickets I'll send you a PM.

    Thanks

  8. If you haven't ordered your tickets yet, I may have two I can sell you. My girlfriend and I were going to go to the UNT/UT game saturday and come back through Waco to check out the BU/TCU game on Sunday but now we're going out of town on Sunday.

She's already orderered the tickets. Let me know and I'm sure we can get them to you.

Yes, that would be cool. Will you be at the UT game still? I could buy them from you there. If not, when could i meet with you?

  9. Baylor plays TCU on Sunday Sep 3rd, the day after our game with Texas. Medpilot and I are gonna drive down there to catch a little extra college football for the weekend. Anyone else wanna come? I'm gonna go ahead and order tickets tonight (Saturday).

  10. I was in Albertson's doing the grocery shopping (I can be trained laugh.gif ) and noticed that they had 15" LCD tv's for $200. So I bought one. My idea is to play PS2 and watch the day's games on Saturdays during the season. Now, here's the question. How do I manage to get reception in the Fouts parking lot? Anybody with experience in cheap and reliable antennae, just the local channels?

  11. That, and he has the respect of all the guys out there. He is tough as nails, and has bounced up from hits that might have knocked another guy out for the year. Today, he was blindsided by Phillip Graves on a hit that frankly made me sick to watch. Two drives later he was back at the helm.

You left out the fact that the blindside hit resulted in a fumble. That's my other knock on the annointed one...he sits in the pocket too long. Anyone with even a short memory recalls him taking sacks last year because he drops back, eats a lunch, waves to mom and dad in the stands, and then goes through his reads again...sack.

And why are we assuming that if Woody gets hit he'll fumble and it's an automatic return for a touchdown? And, again, tell me why bringing in Phillips should Woody get hurt is a bad thing. Yes, he may be cold when he first gets in there but he's gonna hand the ball to Jamario for the first few plays right? And if turning into the defense is the best reason we can come up with keep Woody off the field I've got a sure-fire two pronged solution:

1)Send Phillips or Meager out there against UT

2)Tell Woody to slide or run out of bounds

Presto, guy under center who isn't a statue.

  12. No green sunshine up your a$$ here. Here's what I saw.

1)Who cares who wins the starting QB job...who can play center? I think I counted about 6 fumbled center/QB exchanges and then stopped counting because I was ill.

2)Woody Wilson didn't play.....and he was the best looking QB out there. Everyone who is in love with Matt Phillips and his ability to throw the "long ball" be forewarned. The safety is the only one eligible to catch any of them because he routinely overthrows his receiver. And Danny Meager looks about like he did last season with a little bit more mobility, not gonna cut it as is.

3)I started the practice thinking "man, jamario is back to his old self." Then I couldn't be sure. It's not that he began to play badly it's just that I realized our defense didn't tackle ANYBODY on first contact. Everybody looked good running around them.

4)Rick McKinney noted, and I saw thereafter, that the zone read is only run when Woody Wilson is in at quarterback. Otherwise it looked like the quick out and run up the gut show.

Now, let me pose this question to everyone. It seems there is a consensus that Matt Phillips is a capable quarterback. It also seems, correct me if I'm wrong, that Wilson's throwing is no worse than Phillips'. The only knock I keep hearing on Wilson is that he turns the ball into the center of the defense and might get himself hurt. Why, if we have faith in Phillips to step in, is this a reason to keep Wilson off the field? Let's say he does take a wicked hit and gets hurt. It's the Matt Phillips show! Now, let's say he doesn't get hurt. We have a quarterback who is a threat to run or at least not take the sack. Defenses actually have to account for the QB to do more than overthrow the deep route. Or, look at it this way:

A)Wilson plays and gets hurt therefore sitting on the bench the rest of the season

B)Wilson doesn't play and sits on the bench all season...and we never made defenses think about his explosiveness and take a bunch of sacks

  13. I know that Dickey and asleep at the wheel would favor Meager at this point...

I know that many of you would favor Matt Phillips...

Why not Woody though? The answer to this question should be something much more substantive than "he runs into the middle of the defense" because if that's his only drawback then we have backups waiting in the wings. It's been said by several that his throwing looks no worse than the other two and it's admitted by all that his speed and athleticism put them to shame...so, again, why not Woody?

  14. Everyone loves to see a QB scramble (myself included). But keep in mind that when a QB is "free-lancing", there is a greater chance of the OL getting a penalty for holding or an illegal block.

Very true Silver. On the flipside "freelancing" means you're not holding on to the ball deep in your own pocket for two long turning a 1st and 10 into a 2nd and 17 or so.

  15. Thanks for the report!

I saw someone, the other day, ask about Isaac Thomas and it seemed like the response from those 'in the know' was that the coaching staff was being very careful with him.  Is he even out there practicing?  So far, we are a week into practice and I haven't seen one mention of him.  This has me worried.  Our dline NEEDS that guy in a bad way for us to have a good season.

I was there on Wednesday morning and Isaac was practicing. He ran maybe 5 or so of the end of practice gassers and was always at the end of his group, then he stopped and walked with the trainers for a bit. I don't know if he's been active since then but when he was on the field he looked like a force. I only hope that whatever ailed him last season isn't a threat to do so again and that the coaches are just taking it easy on him because of the heat.

  16. Philly, Chicago and the Jets are all having concerns with depth right now at the RB position, and I'm sure they are not the only ones.

    Rick

I'd love to see him in Miami. They've got Ronnie Brown and then nothing else essentially. Pot head Ricky Williams is not guaranteed to return.

  17. I was told yesterday , by a UNT official, that the SMU game was nearly sold out.

I can't help but wonder how many of those are longhorn fans who bought our season tickets so that they could buy UT tickets first, not realizing that the $80 for season tickets is more than the $50 for non-season ticket holders to buy UT tickets. laugh.gif
