  1. Arkst pointed out how Boise used there success against cupcakes and built from that. Should we here at NT do the same for a few years.

    Schedule only 1 $$$$ game.

Schedule 1 or 2 games against teams such as Temple/Buffalo- the low of the low

Schedule 1 or 2 toss up games against teams on our level.

That's why the 2006 season is crucial to this program. We have basically your scenario next year. (if memory serves)

    1 $$$$$ game: At Texas

1 (should be) tossup on the road: At Tulsa

2 (should be) tossups at home: SMU and La Tech

The SMU game should break the Baylor game's attendance record.

Next years OOC schedule is what we've been begging for. One body bag game and 3 - mid major regional teams. What an opportunity we have next season. If conference talk gets going again, next season could be a springboard for us. Combine the start of construction to the baseball stadium with wins against 2 CUSA teams and 1 WAC team (a WAC team that is our main competitor for the spot we want) and we could be in for something special in '06.

(again, this is assuming I've got the shedule down correctly. I'm not 100%)

  2. Washington was moved to DB.  He doesn't have the size to play LB.

H-town, please tell me why you think the OL will be better.  We had a ton of experience returning this year with Lineberry, Foster and May.  Burrus also played some until mono sidelined him last year.  The only real new face was Rose.  Well, we will graduate May and Lineberry, our best lineman, may be gone if his academics aren't on course.  The OL is the most disappointing position to me this year.  They have never really jelled, are, as a group, undersized and have been manhandled in many games.

Having a freshman as the leader of your offensive line is huge. I don't think it's any coincidence that the O-Line has gotten better as the season has progressed and Rose has progressed.

I expect the O-Line to be solid next year.

  3. I want the team to earn rings.

I want the program to be able to say that we were 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 Sun Belt Champions entering next season.

There was a 5 or 6 way tie for first place in the final year of the defunct Southwest Conference. Texas Tech may have gotten the Cotton Bowl invite, but everyone else still got rings and bragging rights.

And I want Patrick to get his 5th ring.

  4. Wow, I think that picture of Patrick speaks a thousand words.

Let's step away from all the venom being spewed on this board right now and recognize one of the biggest hearts this team has ever had on it.

He carried these guys Saturday night and treated us to yet another show.

If there's anybody that even thinks about claiming to be a mean green fan, they'll get their butt to fouts field for the last 2 games and pay respect to a UNT legend.

I hope everyone realizes what Patrick Cobbs has meant to our school on the field and in the class room and as a person.

We've got 2 more chances at home to see Patrick Cobbs. We may never see another like him.

  5. Damn shaft, you beat me to it.

We control our own destiny. Period. I dont' care what the final score was tonight. (And good grief, LSU was determined to get 70 though weren't they. But they could have scored 100, the national championship is still not an option for them this year, regardless of their style points against us.)

Let's leave the SEC behind us for a moment. We made progress. The O-Line had their best game against the toughest D they've faced. Meager looked confident and poised. Jamario looked like Jamario. Quinn was Quinn. If ULaLa or Monroe or Ark St. don't win it this year, they might as well forget it.

Meager's improvement was my biggest positive from this game. That pass that got tipped when Quinn was at the goal line was a beautiful pass. I am excited about the rest of the season and next year.

Yeah yeah, I know, 56-3, blah blah. BEHIND US. I know Meager and the rest of the team has to feel confident and Patrick has to be psyching his team up for his 5th ring.

It's ours to lose. I hope there's 20K their next Sat. for the biggest game of the year. Then 20K the next game for the biggest game. Then 20K the next game for the biggest game. We could be clinching conference at home..........again. Wooweee! I can't wait to go to Fouts in November!!!

Freakin get excited people! This team looks like it's figuring something out.

  6. Does this upcoming roster have enough of an upgrade to reverse 2 blow out losses to La Tech and Tulsa? Do they win games without a combined 13 turnovers?

See Baylor last year and the year before that. We blew them out 2 years ago, they handled us last year. Did their roster have a 1 year upgrade? College Football has a funny way of taking care of those situations.

I think the SMU game will break the Baylor game's attendance record. Plus 20K-22K for the La Tech game and we average 26K to 28K in OOC home games next year.

Call me overly optimistic, but it just seems to all come together for us next year.

There has to be a sense a quiet optimism within the athletic dept., that's why no one's hitting the panic button and doing any knee jerking yet.

They should just leave the knee jerking to us. tongue.gif

  7. ..............is shaping for what could be a special year.

Before we fire the whole coaching staff, AD, administration staff, janitors, and some GoMeanGreen posters, let's look at our timing.

I've been thinking. Is our non-conference schedule next year SMU and LaTech at home and on the road to Tulsa?

Combine that with pretty much the whole team coming back, one premier Junior running back, a more experienced QB, D-Line, Quinn's senior year, etc.

Could we not bounce back quickly next season?

I know we'll have a few holes to fill, but our non conference home attendance should average 25K to 28K.

It just seems the timing for a big 2006 is perfect. Will the conference chatter start back up after next season?

Maybe I'm stretching, but this time next year, we could be jumping up and down.

  8. J-mo would prolly be doing better as he is the type of back who creates his own hole as to where PC needs one created for him.

Very untrue. Patrick has much better vision than Jamario. And if you've seen the O-Line this year, Patrick is running well with no holes created for him.

The whole thing is, the start to Jamario's career got flip flopped. Jamario's season last year was supposed to happen this year. Patrick got hurt/Jamario stepped in. Had Patrick not gotten hurt, he would be gone and Jamario would be the feature back this year. On the other hand, we would just now be learning who Jamario Thomas is had Patrick not gone down last season. Last year was supposed to be Patrick #1/Jamario #2(or redshirted) instead it was Jamario #1/Patrick red shirted. Then, this year it was supposed to be Jamario #1/Patrick graduated. Instead it's Patrick #1/Jamario #2.

    What?

    Everyone confused yet?

  9. >>*I wish Patrick would have brought at least one kick off return out of the end zone

You can't have it both ways. Curse the player who brings it out of the endzone and gets to the 15 and curse the player that does the *smart* thing and takes it at the 20.

I can't even tell you how many times over the past 4 years we have seen Branch and Moore take the kick out of the endzone, only to fumble or stumble.

In hindsight, it would have been nice to see Cobbs take it out of the endzone and *try* to score -- since we ended up having NO offense. But in reality, it was smart to not risk it. He didn't know we would never be able to maintain a drive.

I agree for the most part. Everytime he knelt, I told my friend, "that's our veteran." But there was once, I think it was with 8 mins or so left in the game, where the kickoff was its shallowest of the night, maybe 3-4 yards or so deep where it looked like he had some room. Yes he did the smart thing, but a sense of urgency was probably in order there. And like you said, we needed something to happen.

Plus, Moore and Branch are both knuckleheads anyway. I trust Patrick a whole lot more.

  10. I know this is all old news by now...........

My friend I was sitting by at the game used to be a coach. As a matter of fact, he has scouted Daniel Meager. We were talking about the team and his comment was, "there appear to be some athletes out there, but they just don't look like they know how to play football yet." I totally agreed with him. There was just something about the way they looked/acted. Most of the young players looked lost at times. Especially on the defensive side of the ball.

I also don't understand why we don't run the option more. He told me when he was scouting Pearce, all they concentrated on was the speed option. Meager appears to have some serious wheels. I didn't realize he was that fast, but he is. I don't know if the o-line is not ready for that or not. It just seems to me we're not using Meager's abilities. But maybe there's a reason, I don't know. I know Meager looked awful at times Tues. but there were other times I thought he looked pretty good in the pocket. I hope he figures it out throughout the season. He and Jamario could be pretty special next year.

    *We can't tackle.

*Our front 7 on D appear to have some speed, but it looks to me like they need to hit the weight room. They don't look as strong to me. Maybe they're young and haven't gained the weight yet. As far as speed goes, (and this may be a stretch now) the total unit could potentially be close to Kennedy, Awasome, Daniels, McIver, Spencer, Hurd, and Casey. (I'm talking about total unit) But they are no where near as strong. When the running back hits the line of scrimmage and there's 2 or 3 more yards to go before he runs into a green jersey, they are getting pushed around way too much.

*Maurice Holman, Brandon Monroe, and Jeremiah Chapman seem like a pretty good group to build our front 7 around.

*Aaron Weathers is not only the defensive MVP so far, he's the team MVP

*Jamel Branch is still the most overrated player of DD's tenure

*I wonder what the pool is up to as ESPN to keep showing Eric Russell as Darrell Dickey at the start of the games. This is about the 10th time in a row. They have to have a bet going or something

*In the last 5 games (including S. Miss) J. Quinn has mufffed 3 punts I know of (I'm thinking there was a 4th one in there somewhere but I can't remember exactly when)

*Dave Barnett is about the best there is. Man is he good. I really enjoyed the call with him and Craig James. I thought James did a good job as well.

*The interview with Haden Fry may have done more for the athletic program as a whole than winning that game would have.

*Did I mention I don't know if I've ever seen worse tackling

*Our players still run their mouths too much

    *Our receivers are small

*Truman Spencer may eventually be better than any punter DD's had. He had some beauties Tues. night

*Nick Bazuldua made his first field goal of the year in the 4th game.

*I guess we'll never get rid of the "throw the ball Dickey!" calls from the stands. I really loved it when I heard a really loud "throw the ball Dickey" right before Meager threw it in the hands of a Troy player. I'm glad they decided to throw the ball there.

*I'm really pleased with over 17K there. ESPN2 did a good job for the most part covering up the empty sections of the stands. The student section looked really good.

*Man do we miss Andy Brewster and Andy Blount

*I wish Patrick would have brought at least one kick off return out of the end zone

*Has the first play of every game this season been a pass?

*Why can't our O-Line block? We had 8 in the box at times as well, but Troy always seemed to get yards.

*Remember when DeLoach was here how we used to always make the proper adjustments and come out and dominate the 3rd quarter? We gave up 130+ yards rushing in the first half of the 3rd qtr Tues.

    Uhhhhhh, that's all I got.

  11. They in no way ran the score up. The last two touchdowns were from a 40+ yard run and a fumble recovery.

What was the guy supposed to do when he broke through? Take a knee?

And I don't think I've ever seen a football player on any level at any game regardless of the score pick up a fumble and fall down. If they see a chance to get in the endzone they're going to try their best to get in. Good for him.

If we don't want them to get touchdowns, we should not let them get touchdowns.

  12. I hope you old guys know how ridiculous you are looking to the newbies. If you have been on campus you know that we've finally got some of the atmosphere we have needed for a long time at this school, so save your whining. Sure, the game is a major setback, sure we're losing the most athletically inclined pres we've ever had, but break up the sewing circle and keep plugging away like we've been doing for this team for 30 years. Even with the loss, the last four years have been almost the best in our history, so keep that in mind.

    Bravo!

    That's what I mean.

  13. One positive.

It seems every year, the student side gets more and more crowded.

Last night the side was full and they appeared to be there before kickoff.

I was there in '98 when you could park a car between myself and the next student.

I always thought starting in about 2001 or 2002, with every freshman class, the student attendance would get better. A new class comes in and knocks off the apathetic senior class that had been there since '98 or so. Now our seniors this year were freshmen in '01 when we started this run. That's gotta mean something right?

It appears to be getting better and I was proud of the students last night. They were there and they were loud.

We still have a ways to go but I'll take one positive observation from last night.

I have one question. Of our 32,000 enrollment, how many live on or right near campus?

  14. I pretty much agree.

I told my friend, "I hope you got a good look at this big crowd, it will be about 10 to 12,000 smaller next game.

We actually beat them in time of possession. (Which should be a key to keeping us in any game, right?)

I don't remember seeing an offensive line get man handled the way ours did last night. Now 5 or 6 blocking 8 or 9 is gonna have trouble, but WOW did Tulsa have their ears pinned back the entire game!

Better get the hot routes ready because it won't take a genius defensive coordinator to figure out how to play us the rest of the way.

I can't figure out if Tulsa's D is really fast or we're that slow.

Truman Spencer may just be a good one.

Jamel Branch has never done anything for me on end arounds. He's this big "threat" but always seems to get about 3 yards.

Patrick Cobbs made the sweetest f-ing juke I've ever seen in my entire life.

I'm glad I brought a girl to the game. Her first UNT game. "Oh yeah, the games are a blast, you've got to see our running backs, they're expecting a big crowd, we'll have fun." dry.gif

I like the upgrades to the hospitality deck.

One of my buddies had me laughing at the end of the game. He kept looking around at all the little kids assuming it was their first game and saying, "Daddy, I thought we were gonna see those good running backs? I thought they were gonna run up and down the field for me Daddy?"

    - "I don't know son.............I don't know."

So, hey, we got our butts kicked. Maybe KState will be looking past us. I think they open conference the week after. blink.gif
