  1. It's my hope that when we eventually make it back to Norman again someday that it will be the day the University of Oklahoma chooses to honor Rhett Bomar.

    Rick

They act like quinn and bomar weren't penalized. I'm sure both were recruited by other non-scandelous prograoms where they would be doing just fine right now. If either one were to have chosen a Kansas or Missouri or Iowa State or whoever then they would be at the DI-A level and their chances at the next level would be greatly improved.

  2. First of all, it would have to be Division 1-AA (they're calling it the Championship something or other but I'm not buying it) since they're in the Southland Conference.

They might succeed in starting a football team but where will they play? They'll have to build a stadium as well.

One big thing that they have going for them is that San Antonio, a city of one million people, has no Division 1 football and no professional football team for competition other than being the training facility for the Cowboys.

The Alamodome was at the top of their page.

  3. I'm just ....shocked. As an occasional contributor and of lurker on the board for many a year, I'm horrified by the sort of attitude we're giving our VISITORS to this board. This smacks of the same elitism that we've always charged SMU with. Yes, assuming that we are better than SMU because they are a bunch of pretty Gucci boys whom eat off of gold plates is a form of elitism as well. Really, I expected better.

Clearly, it will be the current generation of students at all the area schools (whom grew up together and chose to go to TCU, SMU or UNT on an equal basis) which will get past this nonsense (except for smack, which this topic has gone past). SMU is no longer the prissy school it used to be, and has some great people. TCU still has its oddities, but is a fine school as well. UNT has come from nowhere to international prominence in the short time since I started attending and graduated (the traditional NT 7 years).

As for the past: GET OVER IT! For whatever reason, we are here now, worrying about past wrongs (that old chestnut SMU keeping UNT out of the SWC is about as valid as SMU's rightful suspicion of a certain local sports director whom gives money to UNT and was key to the DP investigation in the 80's.)

Let's also be honest. For mostly outdated and ignorant reasons, SMU and TCU have a high reputation either academically or athletically which is not equaled by UNTs. The SMU posters are correct: SMU has prestige to lose in the short term by playing and especially by losing to UNT. Even if it is their own alumni, it is an important factor. We should all work to overcome that and establish a permanent arrangement, but sadly it appears that some old attitudes need to die out first.

DID YOU GO TO THE PONY-BORED LINK???

Their views of NT aren't exactly flattering.

  4. I first logged on to "Harry's Mean Green Report" in '98 (I think, it may have been '99).

Since that time I have: moved from Oklahoma back to Texas (thank GOD!), quit smoking, run a marathon, got married, had a daughter, made some friends on line, made some foes on line, went from hating DD to loving DD back to hating DD, adopted 2 dogs and a cat, stumbled down Bourbon street, bought a house sold a house and bought another, bleached my hippie hair, cut all my hippie hair off...and SO much more!

Wow, since I've started posting here my life has changed dramatically. And I owe it all to GOMEANGR... wait a minute!

I have so much to say and yet so few actually want to read it. Maybe my basset hound can say it best:

    "Hey SMU: Bite Me!!!!!!!!!"

CONGRATS ON THE 1000th, EAGLE D.

Great Post. Reminds me of the beginning of Jimmy Buffets book, "A Pirate Looks At Fifty".

Hopefully we can all stumble down Bourbon St. in the not so distant future. And hopefully we never get the chance to hate TD.

Hope the next 1000 will be as good.

  5. NMSU sucks. Their program is exactly what we do not need. Let's suit up and play at least a couple of big boys. It is a shame Miami is looking to replace our game with them at Dolphin Stadium. Our program needs the Big Dollar games and the recognition.

The press and recognition we would get playing Miami as their first dolphin stadium game may be higher than the buyout. You're right. We play a decent game with our best recruiting class ever, we'll get noticed.

  6. See, I think any downfall of our previous QB doesnt have to do so much with talent (or lackthereof) as it did with poor coaching last season. Meager could really shine under Dodge, ya never know.

I agree, Meager was not very good over the last two years. That system would not display a qb's true potential. I did not like Meager under DD, but this system could unveil talents we've yet to see out of him. Dodge will make a fair assessment. Vizza has the potential to be great, but he is young and needs some time to further develop. I believe Riley WILL be redshirted to give him more time to develop. Meager this year. Vizza next year. Vizza V. Riley in three.

  7. With TCU's capacity they have a bowl. Granted, we'll probably never get one. But, in the event a few other bowls do not make it, the Peterbilt Bowl could be a possibility. Neutral sites for HS football games is another use. A 40k stadium in Denton at a state university could draw better than either of the other private universities.

  8. Especially since they are Chinese characters in the japanese language... twice the chance of things getting lost in translation. For all we know, that character can mean "little white pink-eyed squirrel".

You just wear it, and quit if you see an asian person laughing.

  9. IF we could get 75% of the enrollment to enjoy a saturday game (4 times this year), we could justify the need for a 35-40k stadium. When the kids come to the stadium and have a good time they will return. Alums are excited. SLC and their fans are probably excited. We are getting more media coverage than I ever remember. This is the year. I don't think anyone sees us beating OU, but if we take care of business with the conference and Navy & SMUT, this year could be great.
