The Dallas Business Journal ran a story regarding the fact that Texas Health Resources and Triad Hospitals were building a 100-million dollar hospital in Denton. The reason? Both cited RAPID population growth in the Denton area as the reason for the building. The new hospital will be state of the art and sized at 272,538 square feet. Construction will start this summer and is expected to be completed in 2005. It sounds like they will be building this adjacent to Denton Community so it will be very near to UNT.
They have actually bought Denton Community Hospital, so it will be in DCH's location on Bonnie Brae. The new hospital will be Presbytarian Hospital Denton.

I had the opportunity to meet Summer Sanders about 2 years ago. Believe it or not, she is better looking in person than on TV and was very nice.

It's very simple. Putting the upper classmen and women in the new dorms opens up space in the dorms closer to campus for the incoming freshmen. All they are doing is moving bodies.

I hope the win against NMSU carries over. This team has shown the telltale signs of being young by beating some good teams, NMSU, competing with some good teams, WKU, but losing to some bad teams ULL.

Track & field: N. Texas seeks indoor success

The North Texas men’s track team has earned plenty of hardware recently, winning the two of the last three outdoor titles.
The women want some glory, too. UNT’s women are picked by the conference’s coaches to repeat last season’s runner-up finish at the Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships, which are being held this weekend in Jonesboro, Ark.
"We hope this is our year," said Rick Watkins, UNT’s director of track and field. "We were second at this meet last year, and we feel like we have more depth and talent."
The UNT men are predicted in the coaches’ poll to finish third.
"Our goal is to be in the top four," Watkins said. "From there, anything can happen. But the guys have to be at their absolute best."
Middle Tennessee, which has won the last two men’s and women’s indoor titles, is picked to defend both titles.
The strength of the UNT women is in the sprints and field events.
Senior Ananka Clark has the Sun Belt’s best time this season in the 60 meters with a school-record 7.63 and is also a threat to win the 200. Senior Monica Coates is the defending league indoor champion in the 55 hurdles and has run the second-best time in the Sun Belt this season.
Watkins said UNT could have four of the top eight finishers in the women’s high jump and shot put. Freshman Ciji Brooks has the best shot put (44-1) in the league this season, and Latrecia Taylor is the defending champion in the event. Jessica Shockley won the outdoor title in the high jump last spring, and freshman Diedra Wesley has the league’s best jump (5-6) this spring.
The UNT men most likely to medal include pole vaulter Ryan Lancon, high jumper and triple jumper Jarrod Stone, shot putter Jerome Carrothers and Ryan product David Turner in the 400.

I know part of this business is moving on to bigger and better, but I am would like to see RV finish what he has started here. Maybe things aren't moving as fast as he, and many of us, would like, but does that mean it is time to bail out? I hope this is just a rumor.

I can see where he would get frustrated, but things are starting to change. I just don't see how this could be true. We finally have an administration in place that supports athletics, our football team is beginning to win more consistently and is recruiting better, we are gaining in recognition, and we are about to embark on a huge facility upgrade. I would hate to think that RV would let a few disgruntled "neighbors" and a few faculty members run him off. Maybe these faculty members should move along. It would save UNT $$$$ to bring in supportive, newer, and younger faculty members.
If RV has chosen to leave, then he doesn't have the backbone I thiought he did. I hope this is wrong.

This continues to be a typical year for a young team. Up and down. The good part is that they could get on a hot streak and make some noise in the SBC Tournament. The other good news about the Lady Eagle's is the future looks great.

Will you be hosting any softball camps this summer? I have an 11 year old neice that is starting to play select softball out of Grapevine. She is really excited about the team starting up at UNT, and has told me many times that I have to take her to some games. I am sure she would be interested in attending a camp. Do you have any planned? Thanks for any information you can provide.

The UNT website shows that classes are cancelled for tomorrow. Man, I wish I was still in school.

Great news! You keep recruiting young ladies like this, and UNT won't be viewed as a new/infant program for long.
