Kinda wonder if there's some weird anti-QB mojo in our rooms.  I like to think we've had some talent in there, but it isn't translating to the field.

Yes we were hoping our friends son Jacob Zeno would consider us as he was a star QB coming out of high school.  He portaled out of Baylor and chose UAB.  To our understanding UNT was never involved in his recruiting which is a shame.

Unfortunately the wheels seem to have fallen off a bit. I had the chance to talk to her a few years ago at an away football game. She was just sitting in the regular North Texas section. She LOVES North Texas. I assure you no one is more disappointed than her with the way things are going.

I’m so saddened and disheartened by this.  I have experienced the same in my visits with her.  She cares about this place so much and yet I also realize that she must be held accountable by Wren.   I just hate to see her have to go through the process that is coming.  She is an alumnus and we wanted her so badly to succeed.

First thing we should do is forget Denton residents. Don’t need them. We have what? 100k to 150k alumni living within a 45 minute drive of the arena. Then probably 25k or so students living on or adjacent to campus (within Denton). We don’t need anyone but the people already predisposed. Convince THEM to care and we are golden.

I would also try some promotions in Corinth as it is a close enough drive and there are lots of basketball fans that live there.

    Storytime with MeanGreenTexan:
10 years ago, I bid on a set of 3 lessons with Coach Stracke for the Don January Golf Tournament and Fundraiser.  I wasn't expecting to win with my minimum bid, but I did!   It should be said, I'm a novice golfer at best.   I'm happy if I can break 100, and I'll jump around like I just won the Masters if I happen to birdie a hole.  Definitely the guy that slows a foursome down.

So I went in, and it was awesome.  Coach Stracke had the camera out to look at my swing and everything... like I'm one of his golfers!   He was critiquing my swing, giving me pointers...  I was having a blast and learning a lot!

During my second lesson, a few of the guys come in, including Carlos.   Coach Stracke brings him over, introduces him, I shake his hand & congratulate him on his SBC championship.  We chit-chat, and he goes over to practice putting in a separate area of the practice building (this is way before Bruzzy's obviously).
I go back to hitting, and I top one hard to the right that somehow escapes the cage I'm in, and shoots straight over to Carlos' head.   Like a friggin ninja, Carlos ducks, narrowly escaping death (or at least a nasty concussion).   He turns to look at me with eyes the size of saucers, then over to coach Stracke like, 'Seriously?!?!'.  I'll never forget it.
The other golfers chuckle after the ball finishes clanging around off the metal walls where he was.  I turn back to look at coach Stracke who's staring at his prized golfer, then looks back at me like, 'WTF?!?!'.
Carlos continues to work on his putting despite this loose canon literally teeing-off at his head about 20' away.  Credit to that young man's work ethic & concentration.

I apologized profusely to both of them, finished that lesson, and didn't even bother returning for my last lesson.

I like to think Carlos replays that day in his mind whenever he's staring down a huge putt, knowing, "If I can survive that idiot, I can sink this putt!"  🤣

That is a great story and hilarious!

Ok.  To address why there might be some patience.  First throw lovelace out.  He is a business man and will not stand in the way if North Texas decides it is time to part ways with Coach Litrell.

There are two examples of why patience and continuity could be the correct answer.  #1 Gary Patterson.  In 2004 he went 5-6 and 3-5 in conference.  Then backed that up the next year with a 11-1 season and ranked 11th in the a.p. poll.  Many on this board have stated multiple times that we are a quarterback away from being really good.

#2  I'm not going to look it up, but many Michigan fans have been clamoring for firing Harbaugh prior to this season.  If the a.d. there would have had a hair trigger, would they be sitting today in the top 4 playing for a National Championship?

The bowl game record stinks.  I agree with that.  But this is not a 6-7 team that was on a downward trajectory toward the end of the season.  This is a 6-7 team that because of undisciplined play, lost a game to Liberty that it should have won, then the lights came on and ran off 5 in a row, one game against a decent utep squad and then utsa.  If the team was "lost", then that would have never happened regardless of talent.

I am not disagreeing with you guys about anything you are saying, I am just presenting the other side as I see it.  The quarterback thing is baffling, going all the way back to McCarney days and the shit show after Derek Thompson graduated.  Andrew McNulty is a great guy and I see him at all or almost all of our home games, but he wasn't a very good quarterback.

One thing that both Coach Dickey and Coach Dodge always had was a quarterback that operated well in their system.  I can't understand why we can't go out and find a kid with the "it" factor.  Doesn't have to be tall, needs a servicable arm and just by god knows how to win?

Anyway, one last thing, in all the years I have been supporting this institution, I have never once threatened to stop being a donor.  Sometimes it feels like I am bashing my head up against the wall.  This tailgate thing that we do has turned in to  four day process, starting Thursday and ending on Sunday when we clean up and sanitize all equipment.  But I am not quitting.  I have faith that the leadership in this university will continue to make the correct decisions to put our kids in the best place possible to succeed.  That means facilities, new conference, education.....all of it.  On a whole, I am confident that my donations are helping.  We provide young people with an opportunity to get and education that many of them could not afford otherwise.

Now, its on to the Rice Owls.  Its basketball season and we are damn good!!!!

    Go Mean Green!!!!!

Agree 100% and thank you for all you do to support the college.  I think we need to give Seth more of our support and show him that we care.  We people or coaches get down you love em up and tell them that you believe in them.  That is exactly what TCU did with Gary.

My guess is that the Western Division will be even worse for us.  I expect that the west for football will consist of Memphis, Tulane, Rice, SMU, North Texas, UTSA and Tulsa.  For all other sports Memphis will shift to the east and Wichita State will be in the west.

    What about Navy?

Miami had several guys from Texas, mostly the Houston area, on the roster from around 2009-2012. That was due mainly to the head coach at the time, Michael Haywood (a Houston native). Haywood was on Mack Brown's staff at Texas in the early 2000s along with DC Bull Reese, who served as Haywood's DC at Miami.

We haven't had any players from Texas since (I think), but why we would? Our recruiting grounds are Ohio, Penn., Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois, though we go south (Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina) for speed.

Who is your biggest rival?  And hope you have safe travels to the game.

I looked at a YouTube pregame performance. You do have a very large, high-quality band. I’m not sure what percentage of our band will be available to trace to Texas during the holiday break and on relatively short notice but we’ll bring a contingent worthy of a bowl game appearance. Should be fun!

So is your band for sure coming because Inwould enjoy seeing them.

NT (and Seth) are lucky they are set up for success in this last minute made-up "classic" Bowl game 20 miles from campus

Seth is a very lucky person in general in my view.  Very few can hope and dream to be as fortunate as Seth has been in his short time here on earth.
