Got a feeling they are REALLY going to clamp down on Tylor. Need Scott and Jones to hit some shots, preferably early.

I can and do. I've said in previous years on this board when it's come up that I think winning the NIT is roughly the same equivalence as winning a round in the Dance and being worthy of a top 30-40 ranking. You might get more press for winning a round in the Dance, but it's not more impressive than an NIT title where you have to win five games in basically an 8/9 matchup every time.
So if they're about the same...I'd rather take home a trophy.
Guess I should say I gotta see how I feel if we do win it. Purdue was pretty special.

And if we cut down the nets Thursday, I say it's bigger than Purdue in 2021.
Sorry, can’t go that far.

Not worried. If Morris can’t make ANY of the QBs we have work we got bigger issues than losing a walk on.

SHSU isn’t a big team so this small lineup wouldn’t work with all teams (FAU being one) but the athleticism and shooting of this lineup makes me wish we had seen it more.

I, for one, have no complaints about that first half.

We won’t keep shooting the three at this clip but they aren’t exactly an offensive juggernaut. Just gotta stay active on the defensive end.

I’ve been clamoring to see what we can do with a smaller lineup. Gonna get my wish.

I've watched all of 18 minutes of basketball from both these teams, but I think I'd rather play SHSU than Santa Clara
Getting your wish. It won’t be in Denton, right?

it strikes me as more of a match-up thing right now. Sissoko is clearly quicker, but isn't going to give you an offensive post-up presence like Abou. we seem to be going entirely away from post-entries and so Sissoko (plus Martinez and Scott) are running the show at the 4/5.
Sissoko’s hands when he catches the ball down low are not good. He only seems able to grab the board and go right back up with it.

How about that 11th seed Nevada?

I feel like we haven’t practiced offense at all the entire season outside of some set plays. Defense is the difference maker, but if we could just hit half the shots we miss we would be dominate. We should win by 30 plus.
I imagine we would be pretty good if we made 70% of our shots. Be historically good actually.

everybody should just settle down. I swear it's like half of you just forget everything about what this team is and comment passionately as opposed to practically. we're playing fine. Alcorn doesn't suck...and they've also hit a lot of iso-jump shots that likely won't keep falling.
I would’ve been shocked if we didn’t come out a little flat. We play ugly. And sometimes we play really ugly. But yet, twenty six wins. We’ll be fine.

@aztecskinNot directed at you, but that is a BS way to run the program as we are trying to move up in the world of athletic programs. Either we are all in or were not. Hearing people think we don't need to make a coaching change is just as bad as those who thought we should not have moved on from Seth. So tired of this attitude of "it's good enough for Nort Texas."
Maybe. But with a new football coach and trying to hang on to Grant (god forbid replacing him) I’d say our money and energy could be better used on those things.

Top 5 is tough. Not counting the AAC, since it is kinda considered both a power league and not a power league depending on who you read.
I tend to figure location, historical success, fan base, potential, etc. all as a part of the calculus. Not necessarily how good the program currently is, but what they represent and how easy it would be to continue/sustain success there given the right coach.
Dayton
Wichita State
San Diego State
Temple
UNLV
I wonder if the shine has been off Temple so much they aren’t top five. Same with Tulsa.

Wichita State is one of the best non-Power league jobs in the country, full stop.
Curious about your top five on such a list. No need to list Gonzaga.

Seems to me there is a lot of empty space where Fouts Field use to be. Build it there and rent it out to the University for graduations, maybe put some classrooms in there 😉
Back when I worked at the Pit we could barely fit all the people for the larger school’s graduations. No way a smaller venue could hold those people.
I’d be shocked if the University gave up any parking spaces for a venue. They bring in too much money.
Build it at the best, most logical spot available. You don’t build it so students have to walk five mins less. I do like the overpass improvement idea though.

Damn, didn’t Nevada lose their last three?

Yes that’s it. He wants them to slow down. At least 12-15 times on the break he put his hands up to slow them down and get set. Then burned at least 20 seconds of clock to maybe convert a third of them. Taking the other teams pace Into account that can take 4-5 minutes to simply score 6-9 points instead of attacking on the break and trying to draw falls or get a kick out for three or even an easy layup and get our opponent on their heels.
We did this yesterday against La Tech and then decided screw it let’s just go so slow that Jelly outshoots us and we simply waste time. That’s what it felt like watching 80% of the game. It would be the same to any spectator, recruit, coach, etc… Avery Johnson even said with maybe 7-8 minutes left in the half that North Texas would have to pick up the pace to cover the deficit because UAB could still control the clock.
Now fix the Mavs

There’s nothing wrong with this team EXCEPT….we need a big that doesn’t need to catch the ball five feet from the basket. None of our bigs are a threat outside that therefore the space in the paint is easy to defend. Also, why don’t we have a “small” lineup more often? Scott had thirteen boards, I’d have a lineup with him as the “big”. Either way, twenty six wins is pretty damn special.
Also, I didn’t see the totals but for long stretches it felt like they outrebounded us. Sissoko had one board. Only felt like we evened it up on the boards in last five mins.

I'd like to know one FBS school that has done this and it has worked out for them.
If you want to go way back, both Pacific and Long Beach State dropped football in the 90s. Each has had short periods of success but neither is a basketball success story. I don't think either has won a NCAA tourney game in thirty years.
I'd say the opposite is true, a school like SDSU has heavily invested in its football program. Hasn't taken away from basketball. Everybody keeps looking for the easy route, there isn't an easy route. Hire good people and keep investing in infrastructure.
