  1. Look, yes it is his, or his dad's, decision. We dont have to like it. But, the thing about it that bugs me the most is that he chose to do it NOW. He could have done it right after the season and given Dodge a chance to recruit a QB in addition to our other needs. He could have been warning Dodge that he was thinking about leaving for the same reason. Or, he could have gone to Dodge, like a man, and said that he did not like where the program was going, and try to help make changes, like a leader should. What does he do? He leaves out of the blue in MID JANUARY. To me, that is quitting on the program. I dont care about that he is leaving. If he doesnt want to be here, then I dont want him here. But dont screw the rest of the team who is going to try and stick it out.

Good points. Also, didn't Vizza made a big deal in his statement about how hard it was to leave the other players? Well couldn't that be taken as somewhat insincere considering his timing and how that hurts recruiting another QB this late in the game and the adverse affect that will have on those very players he will miss so much?

  2. I still believe that Coach Dodge will turn this program around. I don't think many understand the state of despair this program was in when he took over.

Dickey had done a fine job of planting a seed of rebellion in his players before he left and it surfaced Coach Dodge's first year. Anyone remember the picture of Dickey standing with his arms crossed in defiance, smoke in the air as our players ran out the tunnel dressed in all black uniforms?

Maybe Coach Dodge could have done some things differently, but none of us are perfect. I still believe that he will win and win big at UNT.

Who will be at the Football Banquet? 34 tickets left!

  3. Isn't this something that some of us have pondered? Vizza started 20 games over the last two seasons. But what should stand out more than the number of starts is the actual number of minutes he played. Meager, Phillips and Tune each saw little if any action at all during those 20 games and many of those games were out of reach at least by the 3rd quarter. Couldn't it be argued that Vizza was given every opportunity to distance himself from any current or future competition? Regardless who is at fault, Vizza did only managed 3 wins during that span of 20 games, right? Now Meager and Phillips are gone and Riley has by their departure automatically moved up the debth chart. Even though Vizza has a 20 game head start one might argue he didn't really establish himself as the undisputed starter based on the number of wins while he was at the helm.

The fact that there was nothing magical concerning Vizza's performance last year, one might easily speculate that the QB position would be up for grabs.

Maybe Vizza wasn't giving the opportunity to show his magic because of the play calling. Maybe the competition was really tough this year. Maybe the supporting cast just didn't have the talent or desire? Will any of us ever really know?

Yes, I too will miss Vizza but there is nothing I can do but look forward and hope we know what we are doing. A statement of confidence in the program from the AD's office would go a long way toward starting the healing process.

Earlier I posted that I wasn't concerned with the departure of Vizza. I hate to see him leave but their is nothing I can do. This whole thing is a mess. The only thing that will really wash this from our memories is to WIN NEXT YEAR!!!!! If it's Tune fine. If it's Dodge fine. Whoever....JUST WIN!!

    GO MEAN GREEN!

  4. Yeah as I said earlier. Vizza was a great recruit and I really pleased with his decision to give NT a shot.

It was my favorite recruit in the past few years. I am disappointed that I wont get to see him mature and continue his career at NT. But failure does not lie on Vizza shoulders put the people who misled him that a Stadium was going to built by 2010 ( RV) and Dodge who was in over his head in becoming a college football coach at NT.

Vizza's departure is the end result and an embarrasment is left in our corner, our starting qb is leaving to go play for probably SFA or SHSU.

At least he isn't going to SMU, right??? That is the only positive we can tell ourselves.

    Don't count out a Big 12 school, maybe a Texas A&M.

  5. I don't get all the consternation and hand-wringing over a player. At, what, 3-17 as a starter I'm not sure we are losing that much to be honest with you. Usually all the love in this situation is reserved for the back-up QB. Based on the reactions, Vizza must be the greatest 3-17 quarterback in the history of football. The University and football program are bigger than any player or coach. They (players and coaches) come and go all the time.

I do think it's funny how Vito takes every opportunity to pat himself on the back -- "breaking" stories and all. Based on reading this board over the last 5-6 weeks this has been swirling around for quite some time. I'm not sure how taking something that gets handed to you and printing it is breaking a story, but whatever floats his boat. If he really wants to do some reporting, how about getting the story behind the story?

    Keith

Hey, thats what I was gonna say!

  6. If Vizza goes elsewhere and succeeds, good for him. I just don't see that happening at the I-A level.

My question to you and others is.....what did Vizza do to make you think he is a good quarterback or will be successful elsewhere?

If you go by yards, he ranked second in the Sun Belt. If you go by any other QB stat he was near the bottom.

I think it's been so long since we had a legitimate QB and a passing game that we flipped out over a QB that threw over 200 yards a game. I just think we can do better.

I don't want to start a fight or anything but I think Scott Hall was a much better QB than Vizza. Please understand that is only my opinion. I also think, again only my opinion, that Vizza was and is overrated. I wish him well and hope he finds success wherever he goes but as I said earlier I'm not worried or concerned that he won't be here next year.

  7. So will you be saying this when everyone's little savior comes in adn then gets KO'ed for a third straight season? I would be damn worried as a Mean Green Fan. At least now TD has no excuses since he has his "stud" QB.

As for those attacking Vizza, funny that you were the same ones praising him just 12 months ago.

For the record, my post was anything but an attack on Vizza. Just want to make that perfectly clear. But your post was certainly an attack on Coach Dodge and Riley.

  8. Collin, hope you're alright. We appreciate all the hard work all of you put in every day and all the sacrifices you and your teammates make. Did you guys even get to go home for Christmas?

We love watching UNT basketball at the Super Pit. It's the best ticket in town as far as my family is concerned. Thank you all for providing all of us with great entertainment.

Hope all is well and that you're back with the team for the Arkansas game.

    Go Mean Green!!

  9. It might just be me but it seems like something is missing with this years team. I keep waiting for a Wooden or a Williams to come back into the game after taking a short rest. Maybe a Watson or Bell. This years team seems like it just doesn't have that edge thats needed to make it back to the Big Dance.

I believe that we have some very talented players and I don't think we will see too many Trilli blowouts like this years Houston game but I just don't see us going anywhere this year in conference play. I sincerely hope I am wrong but I don't feel very confident about our success this year. It just feels like we are missing someone, a player who could bring us together as a team and propel us to a level of play that makes us better than we could ever be playing as individuals.

I don't know. It just feels like something or someone is missing this year. Hope I'm wrong.

    Go Mean Green!!

  10. If you football players want to do drugs then do them on your own money, NOT MINE! Turn in your scholarships and go find a job and pay for your own education!

No one is forcing you to play football. However, if you take the money then you have made a commitment to the University(the students & alumni) and you are in "debt" whether you realize it or not. You made a commitment to give a whole hearted effort in the classroom and on the field.

Some of us work 70 hours and more a week just to make ends meet and then we also give what we can to the Athletic Program.

I would have kicked everyone of you off the team for doing drugs and yanked your scholarships no if, ands or buts.

How many of you were using drugs before the first game in Manhattan? Some of us drove the 1000 miles and spent over $750 to go see you guys.

We actually believed in you. Shame on you!

You who are doing drugs have no business representing The University of North Texas!

  11. We all know that Vizza is a very good QB and we can and will win with him leading the team. I also think that we could and would win with Riley as the QB. I really believe that. Riley is quick, can run as well as pass and would give a defense major problems. Possible injury would be a factor because I think Riley would run too much.

But there was something about watching the play of Tune last Saturday night, even though it was against scrubs, that makes me want to see what he would do given more time to play. His running ability surprised me and the kid has a rifle of an arm. I never thought that Tune had the skills needed to play QB at this level and maybe he doesn't. Maybe he will get to play enough this weekend so that he can actually get into the flow of the game.

Is it possible that we have three very good QB's?

Meager and Phillips are also assets to this team.

  12. When the game is over before halftime why continue to play your starter? Tune looked good and at 6'4" he can see over the taller defensive linemen. Ran well too. Great arm.

I cheered the hiring of Dodge but I am starting to have doubts. We are not improving and we now play a version of dickey ball.

We lack the size, speed and talent and coaching to compete with teams in the Sun Belt. I don't see this changing in my lifetime.

Not much to look forward to anymore, at least for me.

It is no longer any fun. At least last year was fun and offered hope. There is no more hope and you can hear it in Dodge's voice.

    Depressing and painful to watch.

Maybe we need to get rid of the Southlake Carrol uniforms and bring back the green helments!

Our only hope is that the students pass the stadium fee. If not, it is over for UNT football.

  13. I think this theory is wrong.

You have to be a tough kid just to survive as a FBS player.

You are way off base on Dibrell leaving because he wasn't in a "safe zone" anymore.

My post was more about the QB position and Vizza not being in the "safe zone" anymore. Dibrell is his good friend.

  14. Should have redshirted Riley and let Vizza and Dibrell have their time.

Putting Riley at QB against Rice even for just one play was a harbinger of things to come. Isn't Riley now practicing at QB with the second team?

After the terrible and boring start wouldn't you be susceptible to a change at QB? We saw way too much "air attack" last year not to know something isn't right.

Will Riley win? Yes. But Vizza could have too if he had been giving a fair chance.

    Just my opinion, nothing more.

  15. If so, why? At least last year we were exciting and fun to watch even while getting our butts kicked. Didn't Vizza win some kinda of recognition in the Sun Belt last year?

Why are we playing dickey ball, just through the air instead of on land?

    Something is starting to smell.

  16. Well I am not sure if the negative posters is fueling the anti stadium group. They will look at the Daily or somehow find out that we lost 77-20 to Rice.

And remember that is a diversion. Teams successes go in cycles. NEVER EVER let the opposition use this BS on anyone. If they can sell this nonsense, they win.

But they can not argue or dispute 20,000 plus in the stands.

Our teams unfortunate failures on the field this year have givien us one hell of an opportunity to make one LOUD positive statement.
