  1. And back off on slamming the coaches, players and program! You people are going to screw things up by giving the opposition ammo to support their anti-athletic positions.

Yeah, it's really tough having green blood right now but get over it. The only thing that matters right now is getting that new stadium and we don't need a bunch a cry babies messing things up. Butts in the seats are more important right now "TODAY" than wins. The vote is here!

Show those who oppose the stadium and program that nothing will deter your support and so get your pathetic butts in the seats this Saturday and bring as many people as you can.

Nothing will speak louder, not even wins, than having 20,000 plus in Fouts this weekend.

We have been given a great opportunity to prove our point about this program! What could say more about the need for a new stadium than having a great turnout even though this team is struggling on the field?

Last week is over, gone. Lets focus our attention on FIU! Who knows, we might just kick their butts.

    See you Saturday!

    Go Mean Green!

Never give up. It's the only way you can lose.

  2. There was a good UNT contingent at Rice. The band, the fans and the enthusiasm was great. Dr. Bataille was there. Remember, this was for a team that is 2 and 14 over the last year or so and many of those games have been humiliating blowouts.

We can quiet the oppostion this weekend by putting 20,000 fans in Fouts. This is not the time to bail out. This is a great opportunity to show everyone that if 20,000 fans show up for a terrible team just think what will happen when we win. Heck, we better build a new 34,000 seat stadium because we are going to need it. Putting people in the seats is "critical" in that it proves we will support our team year in and year out during the downs as well as the ups. Rice only had 16,000. This is a good CUSA team with a storied SWC history. Only 16,000 folks!

Lets cut the negative BS and talk about abolishing football or whatever.

We have before us an unblievable chance to make one hell of a statement this weekend! BE there and bring your friends!!!

    This is a Golden Opportunity!!

    Go Mean Green!!!

  3. I hope our team gets tired of being humiliated on the football field week in and week out by other teams. I don't know how good this team can be but I do believe they can play better football than what they are playing right now. They need to be held accountable to each other. They need to come together as a team and fast.

We need to salvage this season and it starts this Saturday.

    Too much is at stake.

Sooner or later our guys have to fight back. They have to get sick and tired of being beat up every weekend, don't they?

Go Mean Green! Beat LSU and make the front pages of all newpapers across the nation.

  4. Not only were there 23,000 in attendance for a team that is 2 and 14 over the last 16 games (many of them blowouts) this home game had to compete with local TV coverage. Whats even more impressive is the sea of green in the stands. This is the work of Rick Villarreal and his department. You may not like him but you better respect him.

This program has grown tremendously under the tenure of RV. Was that a new entrance to the Mean Green Village?

I remember watching many games at Fouts when we might have 3,700 to 4,700 fans in the stands and this was during the mid to late 90's. We were D1A then. Few if any wore the school colors back then. Look at where we are today. The student section looked great last Saturday night! More people on the alumni side are wearing green as well. Fouts was dressed in UNT green. RV initiated this change one shirt at a time!

As I glanced at RV standing at the South endzone during the fourth quarter I couldn't help feel he was distraught. Not with the coaches or the players but with the thought that many may give up on this program too soon. No one cares more than RV.

We've got to keep the faith no matter what. We will get there.

Can anyone remember what the attendance was for the Oregon St. game back in the 90's? I want to say about 4,700? No?

    Go Mean Green!!!!

  5. 940 miles and $680.

This may be the worse football team I have seen representing the University of North Texas.

I am beginning to think that Coach Dodge may be in way over his head. Not sure yet, but unless there is some sort of miracle, I think he is at least two maybe three years away from being able to just compete with non BCS teams let alone challenge a team from the BCS. I don't think the fans will hang around that long.

    It's not fun any more.

  6. I was listening to the game on KNTU and this game could have been like the OU game at Norman last year, easily... I was there, things got out of hand quickly.

The offense didnt do much out there in the means of productivity, I dont expect much for the Tulsa game...

The most disappointing aspect of the K-State game was the offense. I didn't expect a miracle from the defense, not this year, not yet. But I did expect our offense to at least move the ball up and down the field even if it didn't score, eating up the clock and keeping the ball away from the K-State offense. I don't even remember a pass attempt thrown downfield. It looked too much like dicky ball and thats scary.

I remember RV saying at the Kickoff Cookout in 2007 that we would never again play a game just for the money. I took that to mean that from there on out we would always play to win. I have no choice but believe K-State was just too darn good and we tried as hard as we could for 60 minutes because if I don't then I just drove 1050 miles, spent over $700.00 to watch dickey ball and that makes me want to throw up.

  7. Really?

As classy as going for it on 4th and 1 and in field goal range...when you are already up 3 touchdowns?

Or was it as classy as kicking a field goal late in the 4th quarter up 42-6?

Emmitt, we would do the same thing if it was us and we were playing at home in front of a large home crowd. Don't ya think? I guess we could have called a timeout, slammed down a copy of the "Political Correctness Manual", opened it to the page where it clearly states that one opponent must not damaged the self- esteem of another opponent by performing according to the rules and object of the game. They called off the dogs shortly after that. The question we need to be asking is why didn't we just stop them?

They could have destroyed our team if they had wanted to but they play in Bill Synder's FAMILY Stadium and it just wouldn't be right to let young children witness something like that. They recite the Pledge Of Allegiance " under God" and actually sing the National Anthem before the game. The American Flag leads their team out onto the field followed by the school flag. You know, you were there. The people of Kansas are the most gracious and friendly people I have ever met! They don't talk it, they live it and it was reflected that night on the field.

We could learn a lot from those people and I hope we did. That was a great collegiate atmosphere.

GO MEAN GREEN! Can't wait till Saturday.

  8. Kansas State was way too good.

The score could have been 70 to 0 had the Wildcats not taken out their first string early in the second half.

That was class on the part of the K-State coaching staff.

I have a tremendous amount of faith and confidence in our coaching staff, the administration and I believe the players did the best they could.

We are at least two years away from fielding a team that can compete and win against this kind of competition.

I predict that Dodge and Company will beat those boys when they come to Denton in 2010.

  9. I have lived in Dallas 58 years. The lack of UNT sports coverage has always been bad but nothing like leading up to this season. It was non-existent and I believe it was all intentional. Lots of smu and big 12 but nothing on UNT.

If 40,000 UNT grads subscribe to the dmns at 1/2 the subscription price of $228.00/yr, they would generate 4,560,000 millions dollars in revenue for Belo. Amazing how the can snub UNT and get a way with it.

There are many rich people in Dallas with smu and big 12 ties who are scared to death of UNT's potential.

  10. Could be that not taking a redshirt this year gives him a redshirt year to transfer and still have 3 years of eligiblity left. May indicate that both father and son are gone if no stadium is built.

Great insight! It really flew way over the heads of most people who frequent this board. You're a smart man. This very well could happen. I, like you, hope that it's not the case. But like you, I'am wise enough to know it's possible.

Remember, that when you go to drink from the pond always cup the water in your hands and lift the water to your mouth. This way you can always see whats going on around you. Might even save your life?

    Good input, Dallas Green!

  11. If you are going to want everyone to learn them... perhaps you should provide the words for them to study.

Most of us on this board already know both and DO participate, but for those who don't, I've taken the liberty to post them here.

Fight Song played by the Green Brigade

Let's give a cheer for the U of NT

Cheer for the Green and White.

Victory's in store whatever the score

Our team will ever fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!

Shoulder to shoulder they march along

    Striving for victory...

Playing the game for the honor and fame

    And the glory of UNT!

    U...N...T...EAGLES

    UNT EAGLES FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

Can't find a link to the music... but here are the lyrics to "Glory to the Green"

    Singing glory to the green,

    Singing glory to the white,

For we know our university is

    striving for the right,

    Down the corridor of years,

We'll forget the joys and tears,

    But North Texas, North Texas,

    We love!

    Thank you!

  12. I dunno... Maybe you shouldn't combine Jolt Cola AND Red Bull. Just a thought.

But yes - learning the words would be a good thing. Participation is most important though. If people would just get up at the right times, make an attemp to clap and yell when they should - we would be doing OK.

WHAT? You make no sense! Maybe its you who needs to stay away from the JC and Red Bull. Whats so sad and frustrating friend is that people who think like you are the majority. You don't get it, period.

  13. Are you saying the light at the end of the tunnel is really a train?

Hey Flyer, will you do me a favor and move off to the side of the stage, you're causing a distraction and I feel in my heart it's intentional on your part.

Last Saturday night at the Cookout, Rick Villarreal drew attention(ONCE AGAIN) to one of the major flaws we have at UNT. The North Texas fight song was playing, the UNT dancers were clapping their hands, singing and well...dancing. The cheerleaders as well. I was walking back from the autograph tables and looked out to the crowd standing in front off the stage. Keep in mind that one might believe that the 600 or so fans standing there were the most staunch of all! I mean really, how loyal must you be to brave the 100 plus degree heat? As I looked out at the crowd, only a hand full of fans were clapping and I don't think anyone was singing. Who are we? Do we believe that it is the job of others to entertain us? Do we believe that there is some unwritten law that we are not allowed to participate? THE TRUTH! WE DON'T EVEN KNOW THE WORDS TO OUR "OWN" FIGHT SONG AND ALMA MATER! But damn, we demand a new Stadium? Yeah right!

Coach Villarreal grabbed a mike and jumped up onto the stage. He stopped the music, explained to everyone the importance of participating, clapping our hands and singing the words. We did it again, but obviously few people really know the words.

Singing the words of our Alam Mater and Fight Song together is the very essence of school spirit and pride. This is where it all begins. It's the very foundation that everything else is built on.

Stop for one moment and listen to the 25,000 plus in Fouts singing the UNT fight song while clapping their hands. Or look around the stadium at the hands held high in the air, claws swaying as the Alma Mater is being played and sung by tens of thousands of UNT fanatics! This is what attracts new fans! This is what keeps fans coming back even when the team might be struggling on the field. This is what attracts donations from supporters and corporations. It's the SPIRIT that can only be found when singing our school songs together.

Learn the WORDS! Practice! Get a CD of the Green Brigade to help you practice.

I thank my son Matt, who while still in grade school, hounded me for years to learn the words to our school songs. I thank him for writing down the words and giving my wife and I a CD of the Green Brigade.

There is no greater feeling of school spirit and pride than being able to sing our schools songs, all because you know the words.

I also thank Coach Villarreal for never giving up, always teaching and setting an example for all of us to follow.

Learn the words and teach others.

OK Flyer, the stage is yours.

  14. This has got to have been, as someone has already suggested, one off the worst off-seasons for UNT FOOTBALL in a long, long, long time.(long long long time, added by me)

Saturdays cookout was first class! Well planned and orchestrated. Every tent or booth was strategically located. In other words it wasn't happenstance. Every detail was considered. Everyone one of you should be busting with PRIDE! It's coming. The Train is coming, I can hear the whistle...it's not far off.

It is critical, vitally important that each and everyone one of us learns the words to the Fight Song, The Alma Mater and every cheer we have! And while you're at it learn the words to the Star Spangled Banner and sing ALL songs "together" at all UNT games and functions.

The time is now, not tomorrow! LEARN the WORDS!!!!

NEVER EVER leave a game or function UNTIL after the Alma Mater has been sung!!!

There is a group of young men, with their coaches practicing in incredilbe heat for the Glory of the Green.

In my heart I believe that these young men are going to teach each and everyone of us what PRIDE is really all about....BE READY THIS TIME!! Please Learn the words and sing....sing with everything you have so the whole state of Texas WILL HEAR YOU! B)

  15. Really? Even though you don't reference Dragon football, your comment seems to point in that direction. I doubt you were talking about the shoppers in Southlake wanting to adopt a football team...

You're kidding right? Even though you yourself admit I don't reference Dragon football and my post clearly singles out one particular person( Riley Factor), you still have trouble comprehending the difference?

How many kids from Dragon football will be playing in Denton this Fall? The whole team?

Maybe, just maybe, Riley is so unbelievably good and the people from Southlake know this. Could be they know this kid is a winner and are buying seats in anticipation, knowing the excitement this kid brings to the game.

Now, if you wanted to question my assumption that section "E" sold out because people from Southlake are buying tickets, well, you would have a point. I don't know if thats true. Don't have a clue. Mere conjecture on my part.

Heck, maybe people from Denton are buying the tickets. Maybe Riley has nothing to due with it at all. Maybe it is because of RV or Todd Dodge. Maybe it's the way the stars are aligned.

But honestly, there was nothing in my post that even remotely referenced Dragon football. Right, teacher? ;)

  16. Pretty bold comment. College football is not Dragon football. Just ask Mendoza.

Help me out buddy. I keep reading my post over and over and for the life of me I can not find any indication where I referenced Dragon Football. Now I'am pretty stupid, so I might have missed it.

  17. I don't think there is a loss of Momentum from the hiring of Dodge around here. In fact, I think the momentum from the first season might have been knocked down a little bit, but with the addition of DeLoach and the upcoming second season, I think momentum is probably just about the same. If this team can win 5-6 games, I will be happy.

I too am a strong believer in Todd Dodge and what he will do while at UNT. He is a winner and he will make UNT a winner. We are fortunate to have him on our team.

I was thinking more in terms of the lost scholarships, loss of players, and lack of any positive news concerning a new stadium. terrible attendance at the Trophy Club, etc. There is very little if any positive news anywhere to be found, or so it seems. Certainly not the end of the world, but close.

  18. Here's a gift for you. It's a video from March 2004 stating that a football stadium is one of 6 major facilities planned to be completed within the next 18 months.

It was a video produced for the University of North Texas, and the timeframe was being supported not only by the Director of Athletics but also by the President of the University. It is very clear how people could be mislead to believe that there would potentialy be groundbreaking on a stadium facility prior to 2010.

I think it has become fairly appearant that the groundbreaking for the stadium has been delayed from the original schedule. I think many fans are openly questioning if the prospects for a new stadium are any better now than they were back when this video was produced.

In the meantime construction costs have risen at an astounding rate and North Texas has lost it's only President that ever acknowledged that UNT could become a great university. He was run out by a faculty that believed existance not performance should be the basis for tenure. That same faculty has since selected their own marionette who will do absolutely nothing that makes waves.

So, what do we do? We sit and wait for some imaginary company with no history of interest in North Texas to suddenly dump tens of millions on a historically underperforming venture, or you wait for some elusive fairy to inspire all of North Texas' 150,000 alumni to suddenly start donating generously to a discarded educational appliance.

I was in Denton on Wednesday. The talks on the new stadium are still going on. Don't know what that means.

As for Dr. Pohl. When they ran him off they well may have destroyed any hope UNT had of becoming a major player at the highest level.

Maybe thats why they ran him off. He made things happen. Remember the video of the ground breaking for the new AC. What did Dr. Polh say to the cheer of the crowd? Somthing like "We're never going back!"
