On the frustration after not being able to get to the QB vs. North Texas:

Today, we just did not get the job done up front. I have played against ACC, SEC and Big 12 offensive lines and by far, North Texas is the most physical offensive line we have played against. My hat is off to them. They are physical. This is football. It is physical. They come off the ball every play.

  2. 1) Through 3 CUSA games our defense has given up 30 points total...or 10 a game

    2) La Tech is giving us all the respect that you'd expect from a delusional fan base. Apparently the loss was all about how poor they are and not in the least about how we're playing some good football.

    3) Baylor put up 71 points.

    4) aTm lost but I think they'll still maintain the "best in Texas" crown. But Baylor may be pretty close

    4) UH lost.

    5) We SHOULD come into the Halloween game seeking win #6. It is imperative that we start NOW working on finding friends to bring to this game. Who is your +1?

    6) I just got off the phone with RV. He confirmed that we did indeed win back to back games today.

    7) Camping with my girls is sooo much sweeter when I can listen to a Mean Green win on the radio.

The news reported that UH beat BYU

  3. We will have ten linemen after the three four-year starters leave after next year...Kaydon Kirby, Micah Thompson, Ryan Rentfro, Connor Trussell, Trevor Melugin, Harrison Sorge, Travis Ellard, Cody Nelson, Dominick Walker, and Michael Banogu. The first six are on the travel squad now so thay likely have a future. Ellard may be also. Nelson and Walker are being redshirted. Banogu is a transfer from some Arkansas college and I have no idea what, if anything, he has been promised.

There are four uncommitted highly-rated linemen that we have a shot at...Corey Clement (Mesa AZ CC), Christian Beard (Waco Midway), Cole Anderson (League City Clear Falls) and Brad Lundblade (Argyle Liberty Christian).

Kirby, since he is a starter and the only center is safe but we will definitely need a backup in this class as McKinney graduates next year. I believe that Ellard may have some experience at that position and of the recruits I think that Lundblade can play center. So, if Travis Ellard is not considered a FBS center we will need to recruit one.

Of the four on the board, Beard is the lowest rated but the difference is slight. It's highly unlikely that we can get all four so we just need to be careful here. I like good linemen but the coaching staff seems to prefer good, experienced linemen, I trust Mike Simmonds far more than me or anyone else on this board to make the call.

Isn't the kid from Pilot Point still on the team ?

  4. Harry is exactly right. You can't throw an unprepared freshman quarterback on the field, risk damaging his confidence just to appease a curious "what if" scenario... it goes back to the phrase that sports is 80% mental. If anything, the staffs protectiveness of him may speak volumes about what they expect him to do in the future. If he couldn't hack it, he'd be RS. He's just not ready. YET.

How about Tx. Tech starting a walk on freshman QB, didn't take long for him to mature.

  5. Give me a break... We all new DT had a lucky game agaiant an awful team (minus the few that praised him and acted like he was a football God last week). Anyone could have seen this coming. Damon or Brock need to be in the game now. Neither of them would have been brought down on that play a few minutes ago. Instead they would have run for a first down. DT is awful and will remain awful until the season ends. He can beat Idaho, UTSA, and maybe the likes of the teams from florida... To think I was excited about football finally when I heard we brought in Brock Bergland.

Did you watch UTSA play, very impressive.

  6. We did what was Expected and blew out a bad team in a home opener. Nice to be able to have those expectations.

USM is a Winnable road game. Texas St. Beat them, and USM ain't no Houston.

La. Tech with Scotty Young at the helm got blown out by NC St., an average ACC team at best. Young had good completion percentage numbers, but only threw for 170 some odd yards and no TDs. Not the same offense as last year. Winnable road game.

Tulsa got pounded by a good Bowling Green team. Couldn't stop the run. Hope. And hope is all.

Ohio will tell us how good we are and where we can expect to enD up in the CUSA West. Biggest game for this program in the last 8 years.

UTSA beat a terrible New Mexico team. Big WhOop. Hope they lose every other game on their schedule.

D Williams is the QB of the future. Burglund currently 4th team and not rising.

Please keep Mini-Mac off the football field at all times.

Rice is a really good football team and are the West faves at this point. Halloween is looking very tough.

Tulane and Middle? Who knows. FAU and FIU? Who cares.

That's all I have to say about that...

You may have New Mexico confused with New Mexico State which could not whip cream.

  7. Man that is odd, if it was blatant then why would the NCAA not come down with punishment? Sounds like good ole boy AD just wanted an excuse to fire someone to stroke his ego.

Wrong info, it was not a recruiting violation. It was over buying Ranger tickets while the LSC media day was in Dallas, he purchased baseball tickets for the two players he brought with him. The players paid him for the tickets, therefore the NCAA said it was not a violation . The AD said he fired Don because he told him the players paid for the tickets at the game, when actually they paid for them on their return to Canyon.

  8. You gotta be kidding? Wow!

Coach Cathel is a good coach and a class act.

I think I posted about it here, but a few years back Coach Carthel's Buff's were hosting Tarleton State I believe when the wife of the head coach of TSU was battling cancer and scheduled to have surgery at the time.

So at halftime of a packed game, Coach Carthel sent his players out into the stands with buckets and took up a collection for her to try and help offset the cost. I think there was a Star Telegram story about it.

    Rick

You are correct, Rick, the Tarleton coach was a former UNT coach, Sam ?? Excuse me getting old mind sometime does not cooperate.

  9. Reason for the firing. When they held the LSC media day in Dallas last month, two players and another Coach came with Carthel. After the meeting those three wanted to go to a Ranger's game and asked Coach Carthel to see if could get three tickets, seating together, Coach did and the three paid him for the tickets, which he had paid for. The AD claimed this was against NCAA rules and represented a extra benefit. Therefore, Carthel was dismissed.

This is what is being reported.

    Really ???

  10. Sad day in Buffalo land. Hard to find any real facts about the action of the AD. All I can find out it was a recruiting violation , regarding one recruit. The AD said he does not anticipate any NCAA punishment. It has been reported that McBroom (AD) and Coach Carthel have not seen eye to eye on just about everything for several years. I doubt if the AD will be at WT much longer.
