We have A LOT of work to do as a team. Not ready for AAC play.

Would be much more excited if we added two or three defensive linemen
Couple of quality DL portal transfers and a QB and we’re really cooking. Happy with the additions so far.

Why is there some expectation for Morris to have this team as a NY6 squad when he just got here? Us fans need to have patience. I’m not trying to beat down the university…but what makes people believe we’re the premier landing spot now after years of middling? This whole thing can’t/wont be built over night
What rational poster on this board was expecting NY6 from Morris this season? Complete hyperbole there. Vast majority of the fanbase would have been fine with a bowl eligible season. Just don’t lose to scrubby teams like FIU/Navy and fanbase would have been ok.
Most are pissed that we fielded the literal worst defense in FBS and wasted a really good year at QB and on offense in general leading to an exodus of our talent on that side of the ball. Hired a staff that forced a defensive alignment change that didn’t fit the personnel. No one forced them to do this.

we have neither an offense nor a closer. we haven't really had an offense for much of Grant's tenure...but we always had closers to bail us out.
I think FAU's run skewed a lot of people's opinions of what the ceiling for this team could be.
program growth is non-linear...and as a program, we're still growing...but this year is going to be a regression. one that any reasonable person would expect from losing a head coach and 70% of the scoring.I seem to recall being concerned that losing our sure thing closer in Perry would be a problem given that our best returners in Scott and Jones, while good players, haven’t show that type of mentality or crunch time production. Assuming new players on the roster would fill that role is always dangerous. Was assured by several on here that Perry was replaceable. Maybe not?
Agree on non linear program growth. To this point in the season we don’t look like a top shelf AAC team.

Absolutely brutal. Just a horrible North Texas sports day all around.

You realize we haven't been in the Top 25 since 1959, right? At that point it was actually the Top 20. And in our 111 seasons of football, we have played in 13 Bowl Games. I feel like some of y'all have unrealistic expectations. We can build all the athletic facilities we can and hire all the coaches we want, but this is still North Texas, folks.

Massive disappointment this season. Zero excuse to not be bowl eligible at minimum.

Caponi did not have a full off season to build this defense, he had to make do with Littrell's left overs. Expectations were not exactly high for this defense before Caponi, the defense lacked quality players and were expected to finish near the bottom of the conference. PLayers were unable to execute tackles, that is on the players, not the DC.
Those that want him fired, whats the plan? Do you really expect UNT to hire a top DC? someone that can instantly recruit and build a top defense in the conference? Thats not going to happen!
Changing the DC will effect recruiting, and we are just days away from the window opening, do we really want to throw away another year of recruiting?
He’s one of the top paid coordinators in G5. Yes, we can do better with a surer bet at DC. Coaching carousel is already spinning. Options will be available.

First, Congrats to Ross on his first win as HC. That UNI team is no joke. Well coached, hard nosed, and resilient. Tons of respect for that program.
Was awesome to have a tough back and forth game against a real opponent to start the season. The Maniacs continue to impress. They showed out and set the tone for the energy and crowd interaction in the game. Was amazing to feel the Pit rock in game 1. It usually takes half a season for our fans to wake up and give us the true home court advantage. Maybe we’ve turned the corner on that front as a program?
All in all - Great win and great atmosphere at the Pit! More of that please. GMG!

So, you fire our current DC in less than 1 season. What coach of any caliber would hire on to that situation. I want you to come on and “fix” our defense….and if you don’t do it immediately, we will fire your ass and go find somebody else.
great incentive to come here
dont throw that USC fired their DC. How long has he been there?? SC was supposed to be competing for a Natty….not rebuilding under a new staff.
It’s FBS football. Limited HC, OC and DC opportunities. There will always be good coaches available & ready to take these roles.

My issue is that no one forced the staff to make a scheme change defensively. We clearly don’t have the personnel to run the 3-3-5. That’s not even up for debate. Not evaluating that correctly and ignoring the Portal is pretty brutal. It sucks cause we’re wasting a really good year with Rogers at QB. We can’t play even just “regular” bad defense which would give us a chance at W’s. It’s been horrific.
I’m in the camp that there’s likely to be more “sure thing” DC talent available once this current coaching cycle heats up in the next month. I have an awful feeling that Friday night in Dallas is going to be really bad. I sincerely hope I’m wrong.

I’m not ready to throw in the towel on Caponi just yet.
Boy I am. As soon as we’re not able to reach bowl eligibility, so likely late Friday night, he needs to be sent packing.
Coaching cycle is getting ready to start up. There will be much better options available that we can afford.

I’m assuming a SMU pick your score to 28. We usually show up in Dallas and inexplicably look like we’ve never played a down of football before. Will still be there as always praying for the best.

I don't understand how he has any choice now..
Even if he has the choice, why would you stake your FBS head coaching career on it? Much better DC options out there. Just rip the band aid off at the end of the year and move on.

Our defense is just so soft. Not a hint of physicality out there. Mix in not one but 2 red zone turnovers and your game is sunk. Sad.

The average student didn't vote on this at all -- only 15% of UTSA students participated in this referendum.
It was the exact same way for UNT when ours went up for votes in the past. Most students don’t hear about these things and/or care enough to vote. Small mobilized group carries the day one way or another.
Also - outside of laughing at a rival - I feel for UTSA. Super deflating for them and not good overall for the AAC. With students these days getting killed with extremely high tuition and fees, I think lots of programs out there would be hard pressed to get an increased athletics fee passed in this environment.
Also with this and Harris being gone, 0% chance Traylor stays.

... Then Perry stepped up to fill the void.
There's a void again. Someone will step up to fill it. I'm excited to see who it will be (Rubin? Aaron? One of the new guys?).
That’s a good point. We’ve been very fortunate to have two of the most clutch players I’ve had the pleasure of watching in my 25 years of following UNT hoops back to back.
Just think it’s bold to assume we’ve got somebody capable of being that transformative like Perry or your example of Hamlet without having seen it. I hope we do!
I do think we have a talented roster assembled. Looks deep and versatile on paper. Excited to see them get after it on Sunday.

Man this is a bold statement. Dude hit absolute game changing and/or winning daggers for us over and over again in high pressure situations. Our team should be pretty good again, but Perry is a special talent. Have a feeling we’re all getting ready to witness him go off at KState this season.

Dear MeanGreen Fans,
I see that many of you plan to attend the game in New Orleans and follow-up with a bit of celebration. Fans from other schools have been so kind to Tulanians for the last several years that I have prepared the following list of things to do to help you enjoy your stay:
First off, don't feel that you have to stay in one of the expensive downtown hotels. There are a number of cozy inns on Airline Dr. that have amenities lacking in the larger establishments. When you're ready to explore the French Quarter, don't bother with Lyft or Uber. Get the real New Orleans experience by hailing a cabbie. Don't be tricked by having him take a lengthy route. Tell him you may be from out-of-town but you know your way around New Orleans (pronounced New Or-leens). Impress him with your local knowledge and tell him to take the tunnel to save time.Once you arrive, tourists are often surprised to discover the freedom one enjoys to walk about the French Quarter with an open drink. It's an awful lot of fun and really helps you enjoy your New Orleans experience. Make one of your first stops to purchase a couple of "Hand Grenades" on Bourbon St. They are dainty little things so try and chug the first and then purchase another for take out.
In the quarter, a number of locals gamble on guessing where tourists purchased their footwear. They're really not very good at it, and since you're from out of town anyway, the chances are slim they will have any idea where you bought yours. Pick up an easy fifty dollar bill by going along with the fun. Don't be frustrated if no one offers you the bet. Walk up to any local and tell him you'll bet fifty that he can't tell you where you got your shoes.
Locals in the French Quarter are always very impressed and eager to help wealthy out-of-towners... particularly after midnight. Be sure and carry a large roll of bills and don't hesitate to peel off one or two as a tip if you need to ask directions back to your hotel.
Nothing is more romantic than taking a moonlight dip in the Mississippi. One of the cozier spots is the Moonwalk near Jackson Square.
Show the locals how well you can twerk. This is a great way to make new friends and you'll be amazed how easy it is to learn after a couple of those Hand Grenades.
Take time to learn New Orleans history. You are probably aware that early New Orleanians buried their dead in vaults above ground. Only a few blocks from the French Quarter is New Orleans #1, probably our most storied cemetery and the burial spot of Paul Morphy and Marie LeVeau. Put a little adventure into your French Quarter experience and take a midnight stroll through #1. You may be lucky to encounter locals who offer to show you the sights. Just pull out that wad of cash, and peel off a twenty and tell him you're in no hurry to get back to the hotel.
Enjoy the game and I know you'll love your New Orleans weekend.
I’m going to require you to kindly delete this username as you sir are no Green Lantern.
My Ray upvotes will prove this to you beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Nice to get a decisive win! We needed that. Offense continues to show that it can be extremely explosive. Props to the defense for getting some key 4th down stops and forcing three turnovers. Good day in Denton.

Embarrassing 2nd half effort. No confidence right now. The ”Offense” is putrid. Meanwhile the elite AAC teams are beating Top 25 teams. Got our work cut out for us.
