Spring Game Roll Call, Attendance Prediction

Maduro

For those of you that have never been to a game at CH Collins (probably very few if you have lived in Denton for the past 7 years), you will be in for a nice treat. I've always loved the atmosphere this place has to offer and every seat has a great view. I would not have been ashamed if the university had asked for Denton ISD's permission to add 3K seats and start using this place for our games back in 2004. So what if we would have been the only division 1 team to use a high school field (someone should look into that, didn't check my facts - just seemed right)... that place is a monumental improvement over fouts.

In at Emmitt's tailgate. Will have two Irving-MacArthur Varsity FB players in tow. I told my son to come watch the beginning of a new era in NT Football. I hope things go better for us than the last time I told him that.

Just sayin...

GMG!!!

I am attending the alum awards Friday night and I am attending the spring game as well. I don't think the Alumni Awards Banquet will keep anyone from the spring game...and students never really have attended spring games at Fouts.

the reference about double travel was for alums driving from the metroplex not those living in denton. if there is no student interest in the football teams progress then the athletic department has a bigger problem. maybe hire another 10 promoters that do nothing? the weather should help attendance.

OK, so have you been to the last few spring games? How many students did you see attending? I've been going to spring games each chance I get for over 20 years and never has, in my memory, there been any sizable student turnout. I also have to say that your comment about the "10 promoters doing nothing" is a bit out of line. The folks I know who have taken on those jobs seem to me to be working their rear ends off. I see them everywhere and they are going all over the metroplex talking with donors and potential donors. Maybe they have missed an opportunity or two that you have attended or missed a call or two, but I am most happy with the help and support I am getting from them with the Mean Green Rep program (a program UNT never had before they initiated it based on what some of these folks had seen at other universities), the events I have helped to sponsor, the stadium tours, the personal meetings with folks I have referred to them, their working the crowds at the basketball games (first time I have ever seen that happen), the work in the Mean Green Room and pavilion at Fouts, their helping with our Alumni Chapter Mixers (attending and supplying promo items). I understand that this is just from my perspective and you are certainly welcome to your opinion which are based on circumstances other than mine I am certain, but I respectively do think your "do nothing" comment was a bit over the top. These folks are working long hours and sometimes seven days a week. Do you not recall Mandy???? That was the prime example of "do nothing". I think we have upgraded that work area as much as the coaching staffs and facilities in recent days.

Just my opinion...not trying to pick a spat here.

I think LoveMG is talking more to the point that unless you're already involved in going to games and events, that the athletics department is nearly invisible. I'm 15 miles from the school, and the only marketing I've seen is a rotating ad on the digital billboard in Lake Dallas for the new stadium.

I'm not a marketing person so I can't really say what the fix is, but it always feels like the marketing/promotions department operates more on a "let them come to us" approach than a "let's go get them" approach.

your contact with them is as mg rep, not new potential fan. they have delegated much of thier customer contact work to the reps. these are just fans lacking any formal traingin in marketing or selling who were given a template to use for emails to other fans. who follows up with these attempts, anyone from the school?

i see them standing talking to themselves at events not working the crowds. the donors they seek for personal contact are current mg club members trying to get them to upgrade to club seats. this is not searching for the new ticket buyers at any level. and lunch on the schools tab is always a must for a donor meeting but often not needed.

paid promoters and hired sellers are needed but where is the oversight? are we getting our money's worth here in returns and effort? check the total number of mg accounts, you might be shocked.

Anyone know the format of the game? Seems like TD used some kind of funky Spring Game format the last time I attended one. I'll be bringing one or possibly two, and I'm going to guess we'll have 2,000. Hope it's more, and that the novelty of a new coach packs 'em in.

Well, I do know that MGC memberships and renewals and total dollars pledged and committed through the MGC are ahead of pace as to where they were at this time last year. The MGC is doing this campaign much earlier than in prior years. In prior years it is my understanding (from contact with MGC paid staffers) that the majority of new memberships and/or renewals came in much later in the year...mostly around the time when season ticket sales geared up...July/August time frame. Being significantly ahead of that pace is an accomplishment. In addition 100% of the boxes have been sold at the new stadium and well over 490 of the 800 club seats. It is only mid-May. Also...season ticket applications are ahead of pace from last year.

I'm am not saying that these folks are God's gift to the marketing world, but they are definitely more in number and significantly better at what they do than what we have ever seen before at UNT. I appreciate your perspective, I just see people working on development much more and much better than I have ever seen before. Remember, when we, as fans, are at games or evening functions having fun, these folks are still on the clock working...often seven days a week. Could it be better or smarter, probably so...could they use additional training? Sure, couldn't everyone in their positions? I understand your "they stand around and talk to each other" thing as that has been a pet peeve of mine for many years...but not just with UNT folks.

Let's see where the MGC memberships are come Sept. 10th (and the scholarship dollars raised) along with the season ticket numbers before we are too "shocked" at the numbers.

I guess I am comparing what I see going on and the numbers I have actually seen to those I witnessed the past many years. And, from my perspective, while improvements can always be made, it just seems the effort and success rate is way ahead of where it has been in previous years. Just as a small bit of perspective, in my Mean green Club Rep work I am seeing increases in giving levels far outpace any reductions in giving levels (in fact I have had only one reduction with eight increases in giving levels so far). I am told this is not that unusual for a Mean green Club rep. I know of another rep who has several...really more than several...brand new members already signed up and paid.

I think I'll make it if you can stand a UH fan there. Wife is out of town this weekend and I'm starving for anything college football. I might just adopt UNT as my second school and give them some of the local support they deserve.
