Interesting to consider this fantasy matchup. 2013 had the better D but 2017 O has put up huge numbers. 2013 did not get to the championship game but was damn close. 2013 has more seniors and vets. 2017 had better skill positions. Two of the best in modern history, perhaps all of our history.

If undersized small-school superstar Keiton Page was given an opportunity to thrive in a Big 12 basketball program, why wasn’t undersized small-school superstar Mason Fine offered a scholarship to throw major-college touchdown passes in Oklahoma? At Locust Grove, Fine was the 2014 Tulsa World state player of the year and in 2015 repeated as the Gatorade Oklahoma player of the year. Because Fine is listed at 5-foot-11 but actually stands about 5-10 — about 3 inches shorter than the minimum preferred height for an FBS quarterback — there was no scholarship offer from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State or the University of Tulsa. Today? Fine is the sophomore starting quarterback at the University of North Texas and already the veteran of 14 starts. His offensive coordinator is former Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell. As TU experiences its lowest level of passing-game productivity in 22 years, Fine leads Conference USA in passing at 288.4 yards per game. Considering that Locust Grove High School is only 46 miles from TU’s H.A. Chapman Stadium, and that Fine’s career totals on passing yards and touchdown passes were the best in state history, it’s natural to envision what might have been if the Hurricane had signed him. I don't post this to take anything away from our starter and the main man Alec Morris. He's the guy and I'm thrilled to have him here. After watching the Littrell press conference though, I remain extremely intrigued by true freshman QB Mason Fine. Littrell is an honest read, and I felt like his description of Fine was sincere. Litrell has seen some good QB's in his time and today for him to say "I was as impressed with him as I was any freshman quarterback I have been around in a long time" speaks volumes. This is a kid who has really made an impression on Littrell and the rest of the staff. It's exciting to think of his potential in this offense especially in 2-3-4 years. In fact, it's damn exciting. Went back and looked up some old articles from when Fine committed. There was one that really jumped out from an Oklahoma paper. John Hoover of Tulsa World wrote, "Sooners interested in Locust Grove QB Mason Fine, but he says 'no thanks'". The articles verifies that his dream school OU came in late with a preferred walk-on offer, and OSU had done the same prior. So maybe it was the right thing for them to do. He was of course a repeat winner of the Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year. Or perhaps, OU and OSU thought he had a little something. I know from watching him in the scrimmage, he's a fun player to watch. He knows this offense cause he ran it in high school. His UNT teammates say he is a "worker". He is also an honor student. I look forward to following his career at UNT.

The Mean Green football team is set to face the Arkansas Razorbacks in their third straight non-conference game on Saturday, Sept. 15 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. This is the first time this season North Texas will be traveling after starting the season 2-0, the first time since 1994. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The history between these two teams goes back to 1947. Since then, the teams have met a total of nine times, the most recent meeting taking place in 2007 that resulted in a 66-7 Razorback win over North Texas. Outscored by more than 250 points in those nine games, the Mean Green have their toughest challenge of the season ahead of them. The Mean Green have struggled against teams in Power Five conferences, and since 2008 the team has lost each of the last 13 meetings with Power Five opponents.
