  1. I've seen nothing from UNT over the past 10 years that would suggest we are anything more than a half step above 1AA.
  2. He should definitely be given an opportunity to show what he has. From what I've heard about the FAU game, he did a nice job. Let's see if he could be our QB for the future.
  3. I thought I made in clear that I don't believe coaches should never be fired. Therefore, my posts don't contradict themselves. I agree there are times to let coaches go. If you start losing Sun Belt games by 40, I will probably think Dickey needs to go. My original post here was simply to say that they receive some criticism unfairly! I don't think anyone would argue that! GAME...SET...MATCH!
  4. The point of my post is that coaches have to deal with a lot of BS that I would hate to deal with. Even in high school football, they always have to listen to fans/parents that seem to know a lot more about what's best for their football team than they do and that is ridiculous. Same with this board, many of you act as if you know better than Dickey what is best for NT football. I'm not saying coaches are PERFECT and I'm not saying they should never be fired. I do believe a 40+ point loss to Arkansas St. would be worse than any of our losses this season. If we start losing by 40 to Sun Belt teams, I'll want a new coach.
  5. I think North Texas has been in "REMEDIALS" for Division 1-A standards since we made the transition around 1995. It isn't as if we were Baylor in the Big XII (regular classes), then dropped to Sun Belt (remedials) and began kicking a$$. That would be similar to your example. We've been in the worst conference from the beginning and we didn't start out winning conference titles. I think what we did from 2000-2004 was progress compared to what we did from 1997-1999. But that's just me!!
  6. Who, in their right mind, would want to coach football and put up with all the bull$hit fans like there are on this board. I would venture to say that if we were all held to the same standard in our profession coaches are, 50% of you bitching fans would be fired tomorrow morning. Imagine a world where our professional lives were so publicly scrutinized. How tough would it be to come home from work and listen to talk shows discussing how bad a job you are doing. I don't know about any of you, but I wouldn't care for that too much. I RESPECT coaches for what they do and what they have to put up with. IF THERE ARE ANY NT COACHES OR ANY OTHER COACHES THAT READ THIS BOARD, I APPRECIATE YOUR HARD WORK AND THINK YOU DO A FANTASTIC JOB AND YOU DON'T HEAR THAT NEAR ENOUGH!!!
  7. I've been very satisfied with Dickey's coaching the past 5 years. While I would love to beat TCU, Arizona, Memphis, Colorado St., Colorado, Southern Miss, etc., I don't expect to win those games. I really don't think the past four years have been that bad! I wish Dickey would open up the offensive gameplan a little more, but you can't bitch about our results the past four years. I would hardly say what Dickey's done the past four years would be called "running this team back into the ground". I say if we go 2-9 this season and don't win more than 4 next season, look to take the program in a different direction. Until then, we've had 4 successful seasons and 1 bad season in the last five. I say that is making progress!
  8. What blows me away is that many of you people think we are above the Ark. St, UL-pick 'em, MTSU, and FIU's of the world. We are still a relatively young D-1 program with probably the worst stadium in football. The fan experience at NT games is getting better because of the tailgating, but the stadium is CRAP for going to a game. You are what you are, and North Texas is just the same as all the other young programs in the Sun Belt. Why should we expect to beat programs that are a lot further along that NT? TCU, Memphis, Southern Miss, Arizona, Colorado State, Air Force, Colorado, and even Baylor are all programs that have better stadiums, more tradition, better conference, more fan support, more donor support, more media attention, more loyal students/alums, etc....the list goes on. No matter what any of you might have wished for or hoped for, NT was the underdog in probably 95% of all the non-conference games you all love to bitch about. By my calculations, we've won about the number we were supposed to win. While there are only about 1-2 true $$$ games each year, we are still not favored to win any of the other OOC games. SUPPORT YOUR PROGRAM IN A POSITIVE MANNER, ALL THE BITCHING GETS OLD. WHILE DICKEY MAY NOT BE PERFECT, HE HAS DONE LOTS OF GOOD FOR MEAN GREEN FOOTBALL AND IT IS PROBABLY BECAUSE OF ALL YOU IDIOTS THAT HE BITCHES ABOUT THE SITUATION!!
  9. ...that would be Sun Belt standards, not standars!!
  10. The problem is that Kansas State isn't a good team by Big 12 standards. They are a hell of a team by Sun Belt standars. Just because their record isn't great doesn't mean they are superior to all teams in the Belt.
  11. Here are a few articles I found in the archives from Flanigan's playing days. I thought it was interesting that he left SMU as "the most prolific offensive threat in school history, holding the career records for total offense (7,437 yards) and touchdowns produced (57). He is also the last SMU player ever to lead the Southwest Conference in total offense (1994)." http://www.chron.com/content/chronicle/spo...95/swc/smu.html http://www.texnews.com/texsports97/exit120297.html
  12. If you can't tell by now, I'm not going anywhere and you won't change my mind.
  13. The past few years, he controlled one of the better offenses in football and his playcalling led to the national rushing champion two years straight. This season, WE SUCK!! If he is the problem this season, then he should get some of the credit for prior successes. SEEMS LIKE I'VE ALREADY SAID THAT LIKE 4 TIMES Any of you that keep posting what a beating this is, JUST QUIT READING!! Nobody is forcing you to keep reading and posting items, but I'm enjoying hearing other peoples opinions.
  14. Tony...you don't have to post your resume. But I would seriously like to know what you have done in your past that would make you think you know more about football than Flanigan. I'm not being a smartass, I would really like to know. As I remember, Ramon Flanigan was a pretty damn good quarterback at SMU. He wasn't a Heisman winner, but he did some really nice things for a below average program. Your point about coaches...I couldn't disagree more. I'm not saying all coaches have a high IQ, but for the most part coaches (especially at the D1 level) are pretty intelligent people. I'm sure there are probably a handful of 7th grade coaches that don't have a clue, but that isn't really even relevant for our discussion.
  15. bflan's comment about you all being "thin skinned weiners" hit the nail right on the head. I made a comment based on my OPINION (I even stated in my original post that it was my opinion and to take it as you wish), and this is where it has taken us. I HAVE SAID BEFORE AND I'LL SAY IT AGAIN...I'M NOT SAYING FLANIGAN IS AN OFFENSIVE GENIOUS, BUT I THINK HE DESERVES A LITTLE RESPECT. If he is the main problem this year, then he was the reason we went to four straight NEW ORLEANS BOWLS. It must have been all the brilliant play-calling the past four years. You can't put all the blame on him now, and refuse to give him any credit for our success the past four years. That just doesn't make any sense!
  16. In case I didn't make myself clear in prior posts... I have not always agreed with playcalling at North Texas in the past and I didn't agree with some of the calls Saturday against Lafayette. My point was not to say Flanigan is an offensive genious, but to say that he deserves a little more respect than having Mean Green fans try to show him up in our own stadium. I think showing up our own coaches in our own stadium is not very classy!
  17. It has been my experience that most plumbers know more about plumbing than me. Most mechanics know more about cars than me. And most 5 star chefs know more about cooking than me. I don't understand where you are going with that Emmitt... I think your post backs up my point of view. Most professionals in any field with years of experience have more knowledge on the subject that I do whether we are talking about attorneys, plumbers, chefs, engineers, or coaches.
  18. I don't believe that just because you played football at a higher level that Joe Blow, you know more football than Joe Blow. I say RF knows more football than any of us because that is what he has been doing for the past 15 years or so (that is only a guess). I don't think just because he was a QB at SMU, he knows more football than any of us. He has been studying the game as a coach every day for the past ??? years, and most of us casually watch football as fans. I hardly believe any casual fans know as much football as any coach that studies the game as a profession. Anyone on this board or any other casual fan that claims to know more football than ANY Division 1 offensive coordinator is a MORON. If you claim to know more football than RF, enlighten us on your background in the game and how you know so much about football philosophy. I'll be interested to hear from tony since he seems to know so much. And let me ask you this...there are many NFL teams with two very good running backs (Kansas City with Priest Holmes/Larry Johnson, Denver always has a few very good running backs). Since this is the case, why wouldn't Dick Vermeil/Mike Shanahan put both backs in the game together? MY POINT: Just because you have two good running backs doesn't mean it makes sense to play both on the field together! COACH, you make some really good points!!
  19. Let me say this...I didn't mean for my post to come across 100% negative. I applaud a lot of the people on this board for being GREAT Mean Green fans. I try to attend most of the home games and support the team, but I'm probably not nearly as passionate as some of you guys. Wearing your Mean Green jersies, standing, yelling, and cheering for the team at the game is fantastic. It's awesome that we have some really great fans. My post was simply to let you know my OPINION on some of the actions that I thought portrayed Mean Green fans in a negative fashion. I think those gestures aimed at the press box and our North Texas coaches at a home game were not very respectful and should not be happening. Feel free to tell me to "GO TO HELL" or "GET LOST" if you would like. That won't bother me. I would agree with all of you that the playcalling at North Texas has been suspect. I've not been a fan of our offensive gameplan since Dickey has been our head coach. But I think all the North Texas coaches deserve a little more respect than what has been shown. The same gameplan that is in effect this season won many conference titles in the past!!
  20. It is a game and they can do whatever they want. I'm not saying they should have been kicked out of the game or anything, I'm just saying I thought it looked a bit childish. As I said originally, that is only my opinion...take it as you wish! I get kind of tired of fans that will bash the hell out of coaches when we are losing, but won't give any credit to coaches when we are winning. You can't give players all the credit when we win, then turn around and bash coaches for losing. I am in favor of standing, yelling, making noise, and supporting your team at the game. However, I'm not in favor of trying to show up our coaches and act as if you know more about football than they do.
  21. While watching the game Saturday, I noticed some of the members of this board were standing during the game. Any time there was an offensive play call that they didn't agree with, they would turn around toward the press box and give the thumbs down, fold their hand with a pouty look on their face, or hold their hands out as it to say "what the hell was that call". While I will say some of the calls weren't what I would have preferred to see, turning around toward the press box really only made you guys look foolish. I thought it looked pretty elementary and I was kind of embarassed for you. This is only one man's opinion and take it as you would like. While some North Texas fans do not agree with the playcalling by Ramon Flanigan, he knows so much more football that any of us it's not even funny. While it may be time for our program to take a different direction, Flanigan has helped us win conference titles, go to bowl games, and enjoy some success the past few years. He deserves a little more respect that this!! THIS POST HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HIM GOING AFTER FANS AT HALFTIME. HE WAS 100% WRONG FOR THAT!!!
  22. I thought the mention of the Buffalo/Kent State matchup as a "pillow fight" was hilarious.
  23. Not sure we could beat Southlake Carroll right now. Did anyone pick us to cover the 44 point spread against LSU? NOT ME!
  24. I have now taken over the top spot in the GMG College Football Pick 'Em contest. For all you that are participating...from this point forward, you are playing for 2nd place.
