  1. Bruce Hall still says North Texas State Teachers College, on the outside and inside...I am pretty sure those plaques, if thats how you spell it, say the name of the school when the building was built. I don't think its something that has been overlooked.

  2. I went to school with his son when I was in 8th and he was in 7th I believe. We actually played basketball together on the middle school B team. I guess he got better. He left for public school after that year, and Hebron High is in the right area. His name is Nick and he would be a senior now.

  3. Agree.

I'm a student and I even agree...but then again I would vote yes for the student fee. Truth is, a $50 or $100 fee per semester, most people would probably not even notice. There are so many fees I pay that I have no idea where the money goes to.

This stadium is something that needs to happen, and if the BOR has the power to impose the fee, I sure hope they do it. The people that would vote no can be happy later when the value of a North Texas degree goes up, because unfortunately most people judge the quality of an institution by their athletic program.

  4. MG Matt, do you know why about halfway through the second half a large group of students got up and left?

I'm glad that somebody is trying to get the students involved. I think at the same time we need to make an effort in the community. If I were involved in the decision-making process at all, I'd be going to the city about hanging a banner over I-35 at the North Texas Boulevard overpass for every game day. It would read something like:

    Men's Basketball Tonight - 7:00 PM!

    Tickets $7 and up!

    Go Mean Green!

A $500 banner could increase total attendance by 10,000 for the season

I think that a lot of people left to go watch the BCS or "BS" championship game...whether they would have stayed or not had that game not been on I don't know. I do know that the requirement to be there, sort of ran out at that time. If we were up by less than 20 that mightve helped as well. For instance, the Ok St. crowd at least from what I could tell, did not diminish in the second half.

We have a shot at the Sun Belt again this year, and the athletic department needs to advertise it as such. The sign on I35 is a great idea, and I don't see why Denton would complain. We really should be getting crowds of at least over 4000 with the team we have. Look for a larger average of students this spring starting Saturday, as tomorrow the residence halls open up again. GMG!!

  5. Glad to see RHA getting their leaders involved. Too bad most of them were complaining about supporting their university. Maybe they shouldn't be in a leadership position.

Oh, and welcome to the board MG Matt.

Thanks UNTLifer. I did talk to the people today from my hall that were not excited last night and they enjoyed it and plan on going again!!!

I am not sure what the attitudes were from the other halls going into it, but they were rowdy enough that I would assume that even if they did not want to go, they ended up having fun...It sure does help that we have a good home basketball team, because when the university really advertises the games to the students, and they come see us win, they want to come back. I honestly believe you will see a lot of those people back to more games. RHA is having another night on the 17th of January with all of the students moved back in. Go Mean Green!!!

  6. The reason there was a decent student turnout tonight was that most of the Residence Hall Assistants were in attendance tonight. At least that is the way I understand it. I was there until halftime. I went home to watch the LSU game...

That's right. Anyone that's in a leadership position for the Residence Hall Association was required to be there last night. Sadly enough most of the people from my hall were complaining about it. Hopefully a fun time will get them all back, cuz RHA was 80% if not more of the student crowd last night.

  7. It doesn't really matter which conference has more teams in bowl games. Yeah, CUSA has more connections to bowls, but it really comes down to who wins the games.

The Sun Belt had a WINNING RECORD last year against cusa and tied them this year. Regardless, CUSA is just gonna act like smu did when we beat them in 2006, they are gonna keep talking trash, but 1 on 1 can't back it up.

  8. I was at a Champs Sports in Garland last week and they had two different t-shirts, a hat, and a beanie. I asked one of the guys working there why that was all they had and he said the University won't allow them to produce most of the merchandise that we want. Not sure if this is true or not, but he put the blame on the marketing department for athletics.

  9. As much as I would like to see that happen the Sun Belt just isn't strong enough for that to happen yet. There will be much better teams from stronger conferences that don't get an at-large bid. The only team that goes to the tourney will be the conf. tournament champion.

The Sun Belt is currently ranked as the 18th best conference and that will only go down as we head into conference play.

    Sagarins Conference Ratings

Having said that, I think the Belt is improving. I hope this trend continues so maybe in the near future we can have an at-large bid.

I know that the odds are slim, but im not 100% sold on us only getting one team in the tournament this year. With out of conference records going into conference play, if any combination of UNT, WKU, UNO, USA, and/or UALR could both theoretically run the table in the Sun Belt, I could see the possiblity of an at-large bid. I know Sun Belt schools get snubbed a lot, but its hard to ignore a team with less than 5 losses...Just a possibility.

  10. Here are just a few things from a guy that sees the campus everyday...

    1) By what it sounds like Jesse is spending way too much time at SMU to realize what is going on at UNT

    2) We have more than one nice dorm, I assume people think victory is the only nice one. Brand new are Legends and Honors halls, Traditions is awesome, as well as Santa Fe Trail. Not to mention plans to improve Bruce Hall, which would remove the window units, making Bain Hall, I believe that last building on campus with said units.

    3) They planted flowers all along Ave. C, all around the Administration Building, redid the Gazebo by the Union, planted trees and put benches there. If you go see that you should check out the redone library mall too, but it might just be too painful to look at our ugly library...right? The only reason we need a new library is because they are running out of room, not because it is ugly!

    4) smu has a nice campus, but we have nothing to be ashamed of. Whoever says the architecture of Matthews Hall, the Business Building, Administration, Biology, and Clark and Maple dorms is not collegiate and beautiful is nuts. Quit adding to the smuts ego and just let them count their money. Our campus is awesome.

For anyone who disagrees I guess your only option is to brown-nose the smut fans becuase for some ridiculous reason you feel inferior.

    Go MEAN GREEN!!!

  11. Solid point 93-98. My concern has less to do with current capacity than with future capacity. The reason I said 40,000 minimum is it seems that would allow expansion to 60,000 in the future instead of 30,000 to 50,000.

Still, in the end, it could be worse than maxing out at 50,000. Texas Tech, Kansas, Colorado, Iowa State, and Kansas State are all about ~50-55,000.

I agree completely ColoradoEagle, just remember that if we do put a grassy hill in he other endzone, and just have two sidelines equalling 35,000, there are always seats to add where the hill is and the upper decks to get us over 50,000.

  12. This was just a bad night to get a big crowd. Should it have been packed? YES! If you count our huge alumni base and student body, but it just wasn't. People seem to be more ready to complain about the attendance than to praise our team for winning their second game of a long, hard season. The Utah State game in 97' was a great game. As was Oregon State in 95' I believe (could be wrong on the year, I was only 6), and we had small crowds for those games. This year, for our first three games against SUN BELT SCHOOLS, we averaged almost 20,000 fans!!! People are getting criticized for saying we aren't there yet, BUT ITS A FACT THAT WE ARE NOT. That does not mean that there has not been a steady flow of improvement over the last few years. The students are not nearly as apathetic at they used to be, and that shows in football attendance, and Basketball. That one game with only 5,000 fans there will do nothing to stop us from where we are headed. Go Mean Green!

  13. I am pretty sure that everyone was frustrated with the attendance. Truth is, everything was against us in trying to get people out there. I am a student, and I was there, so according to previous conversation I reserve the right to speak about this. I was one of about 20 students that I saw, but the students were not on campus. I came back to my dorm on Sunday, and did not see a person for hours...There is no need to just argue amoungst ourselves, and cut each other down. It was ONE GAME, and though disappointing attendance wise, it is in the past, and thank God we came out on top. Thank You to all who were there, those are true fans, but that does not mean it is all of them. Some people could just not make it. GO MEAN GREEN! BEAT FIU!
