    Couple of thing:

I am not sure it was Wern's call, why would any AD want to see his program go into november and december with out the following seasons coaches in place for transfers and recruiting?

They handled Littrell situation poorly, they wanted to keep him for a post season run in 22, then they should kept him for the following season in 23.  Letting him go after the bowl game was to late to hire a new coach and build a team for 23.

Morris was a panic hire, recruiting left with Littrell, players were jumping into the transfer portal, coaching staff was in limbo, and the transfer window was closing.   Not ideal timing for a head new coach, I think Morris was the only one willing to take the job.

We didn't lose any transfers until the 2nd window

    My mindset? .......🤣

yeah, old mindset. You're comparing morris to freaking Fry. the most popular offense was the vere. We have the portal and legally pay players now days. Your argument is out of touch

There is a bit more to that story, like having NIL funding and more. I think we handicapped ourselves in many ways. I wanted us to fire/hire much earlier in the season if not the year before. And to keep seth we would have had to extend his contract, which was a big NO.  I am not ready after two games to hang a brand new coach. And to what end?

My point was we were far from a powerhouse last year.

agreed, I hope morris can turn it around. I thought he would win 8 games so I was wrong. NIL is another failure, if Tx state has more NIL money that's another issue entirely.

You're part of the problem then why seth wasn't fired after 1-6 with your mindset. RICE and TX state have passed us. We are the worst FBS team in texas now.  I have no idea how this is okay to you. Maybe your mindset is why we have been bad at football for most of our existence

Really, that is so not true. Did you see how bad the portal hammered us? FIU looked big next to us. Who recruited most of our current players?

I would say that an earlier hire last year would have made an enormous difference. We had an easy schedule last year and SMU could have easily hung another 14 points on us. We didn't play last year's FIU last night I have no idea what has changed and developed there but I know we lost many of our best players to the portal and graduation.

You made my point? This is on morris and wren. Texas state got like 50 transfers. really we lost 3 starters to the portal from defense. we didn't get depleted by the portal. We were weak on defense and did NOTHING to fix it is the problem.

Apples and Oranges? You mean we don't play "11 man tackle" anymore?

If you can't see that football, especially roster building is completely different from 50 years ago then there's no helping you.

It was 1973 and 74.  And Fry had been a successful HEAD COACH at SMU before the 73 and 74 seasons.  My point is that even "legendary" coaches who eventually took a historically losing program to the Rose Bowl can struggle when they take over a new job.

my point is this is apples and oranges. your talking about college football 50 years ago. Might as well be a different sport. and Fry also fry took over one of the worst football programs in the nation Record: 1-10 (125th of 127).  Morris didn't do that. There's really no excuse .  Wren screwed us by letting seth hang around when he should have been fired after 1-6

A little perspective here.  Hayden Frys first year. He went 5-5-1 and tied for the MVC championship. BUT he lost to UT-Arlington, and Memphis in the first two games.

this isn't 1965, fry also didn't take over a team in the conference championship  the previous year. The portal has changed college football and allowed turn arounds over night. We somehow have gotten significantly worse.  We were told the cupboard wasn't bare, the offensive scheme wasn't that different. Morris is a bad hire at this point, which sucks because I thought he was the right guy.

Morris just dug himself a "well" he won't be able to crawl out of for along time. That average crowd at DATCU Stadium the first game is gone. Hope he watches how many band parents leave after the half time show.. it will revel a small fan base just like it did with the last 3 HFC who couldn't win games that mattered.

We are now in a 3-5 year rebuild. And it's going to be a hard rebuild. Watching to see how many 2024 recruits decommit and man that transfer portal will be full of NT players..

I just don't think he can right the ship anytime soon. Just my Opinion

NO, morris has 1 more year to fix this. He will be fired if he wins 2 games next year. The portal has changed the timeline. If texas state can do it, we better

Baker didnt hire Morris (and probably wouldn’t have).    True, we should have gone through the breaking-in of a new coach last year, but this hire is on Mosley.

he didn't fire seth so its on him. by the time seth was fired, lots of coaches arready hired, portal window ended. typical NT stuff

Texas State has such a quick rise because Kinne was able to bring over essentially the whole Incarnate Word team. The team was the number 2 team in all FCS last year. I honestly believe that team would have beaten North Texas last year. The Irony of that is Eric Morris recruited virtually every one of the kids to Incarnate Word. Now Tx State also added some P5 talent as well. But there are also some kids from Utah State and Utah Tech as well.

Why didn't Morris get some of those ICW kids or even Washington state?

The contract Dion signed at Colorado was for $29.5 million for 5 years.  There is no way we could have even gotten close.  Then after hiring him, his assistant coaches didn’t follow for nothing.

We didn't even talk to him. He lives in TX, image what he could have done here in the metroplex. Oh well, that ship sailed and isn't coming back. I like Morris but his defense scares the shit out of me

    10 for us.

On 247, Texas State shows 39 transfers in 2023. Eyeballing but about half are from P5 and have legit size. 2022 shows 17 including a 6'2" 306 pound DL from Texas. Both classes have size on both sides of the line. No reason we can't be bringing in those guys over TX State. Makes you wonder what our coaches have been doing.

Oh, and no more of this BS "that guy didn't do much at the P5 ranks, what makes us think he'd do anything here" talk. We need size and if anything we need depth.

Agreed, there's no reason we should be smaller every game. We've been smaller for years. Utsa isn't small, smu isn't small, tx state isn't small. I can go on and on.
