  1. I remember that Sac N' Save fondly. I remember having a pretty bad bout of "sour gut" one morning during my first semester on campus (around February of 2013, I believe). As I was arriving on campus, it hit the hardest and that dilapidated store was the first place I saw and that deuce was about to drop somethin' real bad. (McDonald's was not an option, because I'm generally opposed to bombing a restroom in a place where people are eating)

I ran straight in and looked for the bathroom. The look and smell of the store alone nearly made what was trying to force its way out go right back up in and come out the other way. When I opened the door to the bathroom, I quickly made an about face and took off for the exit. Seriously, words cannot describe what I saw, smelled and heard. I clenched up really fast. Nothing was coming out after that!

Sac N' Save . . . more like "Sac N' Save Me From Ever Going in Again." I think that place saved my life.

I ended up staying in "lock down mode" until I got on campus and bombed a stall in the Academic Building. There was already someone else having the same problem in another stall. Therefore, I maintained my anonymity and nobody ever knew about it . . . until now.

It feels good to get that off my chest. Thanks, Sac N' Save.

    Stay hard, Sac N' Save!

  2. :goodjob: My contact showed me a picture of it. Very nice!

Anyone else picturing that one kid in the neighborhood? You know the one. While you and your friends are fighting over peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, he'd come racing out of his house to the car saying, "I don't want a peanut butter and jelly sandwich! My dad's taking me to Braum's for burgers and milkshakes!"

Yeah, I'm picturing that kid right now.

  3. Would it be crazy to try and schedule a team like Boise? Granted, they're tricky as hell and we'd have to play a game or two on their blue turf but that's a sexy match-up that would get us some notoriety if we took them down. Plus, we'd have a high-powered offense challenging our stout defense. I think that would be a lot of fun, but maybe I'm wrong.

I mean, I'm kind of thinking that a great idea would be to start aiming for some of the upper-G5 teams in the event that the P5 becomes untouchable.

  4. I heard the tail end of it last night while driving home from work when 105.3 does The Midnight Snack. (Would prefer Farrell for my drive home, but his voice just gives me instant laryngitis).

Am I crazy or did I hear him start basically griping about how SMU isn't "trying hard enough" now with recruiting, and then went on to point out "All the other successful teams are cheating now. Why isn't SMU?"

Then the host was having a good laugh with him about it and then Dickerson said something along the lines of "If you're not cheating, you're not trying."

I swear I remember hearing that.

  5. SMU muffed a punt in the 4th where we recovered the fumble. Box Score says the returner was 'LANCASTER,C'. I guess they pulled Jr cause he made too many mistakes?

OK I thought so. I was thinking that had happened after we'd left. But he did muff one around early 2nd quarter that SMU recovered.

  6. Like everyone else has pointed out, beer lines were too long, the heat sucked, and I hated the 11am start.

But I'll take that any day to see a performance like UNT showed on Sat. Just a great time all around.

Oh, and a special +1 for being able to see Deion Sanders Jr embarass himself.

I was just telling some co-workers about that. You'd think for being the son of one of football's most prolific return men, he'd have better instincts as a returner.

But I recall on (I believe) the kickoff that SMU received from us after our first FG, he let a very high kickoff bounce in front of him at the 5 and then way up in the air. As one of our cover guys was at the 10 about to clobber him, he caught it and well . . . got clobbered. I ask a couple of things -- First, does he know that you CAN fair catch a kickoff? I know it's rare, but it was a high kick and our gunner was on full-blown after burner mode. Second, once that bad boy hits the turf, it's a live ball and that further drives the point he should have caught it at the 5.

Moments later, we punted to them. He was standing on the 5 and decided to try and catch a high punt. Once again, we had a gunner bearing down on him and he was clobbered. They ended up muffing the punt and we nearly ended up with it (I think, because I don't think we recovered it -- trying to remember now).

But my point is, he was just not careful at all. It looked like he was trying too hard to be his dad and not make smart decisions.

  7. Thanks for posting Vito and Harry... We appreciate it.

After talking to my brother and our parents- it's better that the real story comes out than your very crazy imaginations start to make assumptions. And I was asked to reply.

Saturday night most of the football team went to Fry Street to celebrate the win. After hanging out with some friends, instead of getting in the car with an intoxicated driver, John opted to walk back to the dorms instead. He was alone. As he was walking he passed by some university police. He went around a corner where he was no longer visible and started to run only to run into a police car at the end of the street. They saw him and saw that he was running, suspected that he was up to no good and he was arrested.

It was very stupid. He knows that and believe me he has been punished enough with the guilt of letting his coaches, team and the mean green Fanbase down. He has been suspended for La Tech only. He is The last kid that you would think that would get in trouble like this. His coaching staff could not even believe that it was him and questioned that they had the wrong name. But regardless, he is taking responsibility and understands the consequences of his lax judgment.

I would appreciate it if you would all take that into consideration before any further posts. There are no excuses. But, for anyone on here that has never made a mistake- feel free to throw your stones.

He is beating himself up enough.

*** on a sidenote- knowing that more than a few of you have my contact information: It is a little disappointing that you did not contact me to clarify before posting.

He seems like a good kid to me, and based on your posts and others' accounts of meeting you, it runs in the family.

This incident doesn't change that at all for me. We all make mistakes.

Hopefully he's well-rested and ready to go for Nichols St.!

  8. I was really bothered at the crowd leaving early. i know it was hot and the sun was beaming down. but you have to mature as a fan base and stay at any cost. it is not every game you can enjoy the Mean Green kicking some ace like that. was glad the students showed up but was was the deal with the home side crowd. thought we sold more season tickets this year? after watching the recorded game. our fan base looked really bad near the end of the game. we where still very loud on TV.

You don't have kids, do you?

Sorry, I had an 8 year old with me that was not feeling well due to the heat. Getting him to stay through the 3rd quarter was a monumental task. You have to consider your kids, when you have them.

    Exactly.

    1) I have an eight year-old daughter that despite enjoying the game and having a good time, was wearing down FAST in the third quarter. This was her first football game and she was having a great time. But there was only so much that drinking more water could do before she was ready to fade. So, at the end of the third quarter my wife and I made the call that we were done. By the way, special thanks to the older guys in the top rows of the upper deck that saw my daughter and I and asked us to come up into the shade with them. You guys are class!! Had it not been for you guys, we would have left even earlier. Also, props to a student that handed my daugther a pom-pom and let her keep it. You sir, made her day!

    2) I have a two year-old son. He also enjoyed the game and was having fun. But he's two! The heat was taking a toll on him even worse than my daughter, and anything short of letting him run onto the field and play with the guys (Which he asked to do early in the game and we had a good laugh about it) wasn't going to cut it at halftime. So, my gracious wife (knowing my daughter and I were very-much engaged in the game) took him back to the car and they "drove" in the air conditioning while my daughter and I watched the game get out-of-hand.

Maturity, my young friend, is why I left in the third quarter. Immaturity would have been saying "aw, suck it up little girl. I know it's 107 degrees out here but you need to toughen up and support this team."

Sorry, my children's lives are not more important to me than a football game. Sure, it sucked missing Evans' TD on his first touch but I'll gladly sacrifice that to keep my kids safe.

"Mature as a fan base" . . . come on man, that's a joke and you know it. I wish we had a better showing too, but at least the ones leaving early showed up!

  9. Anyone else giggling while reading through that? I understand feeling bad after pretty much not scoring for eight straight quarters but they also GROSSLY underestimated our defense. The fact that many of those guys posted expectations of scoring on our D as well as Texas did illustrates how little they really knew about our defense. And then when it's said and done, they chalk it up to how bad they are. That's fine. Discredit us, but we'll be laughing at you when we play another bowl game and you're watching it on tv.
