  1. RV's penny pinching to add baseball (specifically building up the dinero for schollies). His man Kuehne is still backing Benford and RV wants some more donations to build a baseball stadium so he's gotta keep him happy.

on a related note, watch for men's track to disappear or become unfunded around that same time.

it's time for RV to go. He's done what he can do here.

We need someone new at North Texas who can take us to the NEXT LEVEL. getting rid of RV also includes getting rid of some of his stale upper level associates

I'm thankful for all that RV has done and accomplished, but I think his work here is finished

  3. disappointing day for sure.

-swimming's 5th place finish was right smack dab in the middle of CUSA

-the lack of any final day information on track & field should tell us all we need to know about track's position in the athletic department. I bet you're right about resources getting yanked...seems like the official announcement of baseball will also be the death knell of men's indoor track, if not men's track overall - outdoor and indoor. However, that's no excuse for the women's program.

    - and Fouts is still a whole heckuva lot better than some of the Big 5 schools track & field facilities. While maybe not the ideal home, Fouts is a better home for our track programs than say our current soccer "stadium" is for our soccer team. I'd like to see the women's basketball team move to cozier confines than the Super Pit, as well. Is it possible to move back to the Snake Pit, or even a slightly expanded volleyball arena? ...would make for better home court atmospheres.

  4. It's the dog days of off-season, and I don't think we've ever ranked favorites (and least favorites before). Any iconic posters that have made a special mark on our favorite message board?

I don't feel qualified, due to a lack of overall posting and longevity on the board, but I'm interested to hear what some of our long time members and high-volume members have to say on the subject...

For the purposes of the exercise, I excuse all of the moderators. Each and every one is a favorite.

To clarify: by best poster, I mean the best content. ie. you really look forward to reading their material every time you see their handle and avatar. Or perhaps we can even discuss the Bottom 5?

i always enjoy reading the musings of untjim1995 and MeanGreenTexan, among others.

one last parting thought: I guess I'm kind of putting out an APB for FroggyStyle and coogerqueen - did they both get perma-banned? and what ever happened to that stormchaser guy?

  5. for “evaluation” after extensive cracking was found in the elevated concourse..

    - Allen ISD Interim Superintendent Beth Nicholas said the stadium will be closed until at least June.

    - the district describes the cracks as more pervasive and wider than what would be normal with foundation cracking, anywhere from 1/4″ to 3/4.” No pictures of the cracks have been provided.

    - Nicholas said they are working with the architect, PBK Architects, and the district's long-time general contractor, Pogue Construction, to find a solution.

    - An independent engineering firm is about 10 percent into investigating the extent of the cracking. That full report won't be done until June.

  6. general admission season tickets start at $65.

    to answer the OP's question:

    - ESPN and Fox didn't release their 2013 TV schedules until the middle of May last year so I expect 2014's times will be announced around that same time this year.

Typically in the past, the athletic department hasn't sold big away game tickets to the general public. I went to LSU in 2008 and 2012 - both times only season ticket holders, MGC members, and current students were allowed to purchase from the NT ticket office

  7. If you're waiting impatiently for Conference USA to release the 2014 football schedule, you're not alone.

I sometimes think I'm the only one interested in this topic, however I'll continue to post updates

    http://hamptonroads.com/2014/02/conference-usa-football-schedules-could-be-out-soon

    tidbits:

    - - C-USA asst commissioner Russ Anderson said no decision on UAB has been announced, but the reporter is hearing from other officials that it's all but final with UAB moving West

    - - Anderson said putting the schedule together was complicated with WKU moving in 2014 and Charlotte not joining til 2015. "that leaves C-USA with 13 teams, and unbalanced divisions, in 2014. That means somebody has to be off every week." - I had thought this might be the problem, hence my bringing up the subject of whether or not we jumped the gun by adding WKU a year early

    - - when C-USA releases the 2014 schedule, it will be a one-shot deal - completely independent of the 2013 and 2015-future schedules

    - - In 2015, C-USA teams will begin playing a round-robin schedule, meaning that division rivals will play half the division at home and half on the road one year, and then reverse the schedules the following year.

    - - There will also be a pattern to when and where inter-division games are played (East vs West). The round-robin pattern will NOT be happening starting in 2014. Officials will put together the best schedule they can, then start all over again for 2015. see #3 above

    - - some teams could end up hosting a team two years in a row or going on the road to face a team two years in a row

    - - TV, home date requests, and stadium availability are also concerns. CBS Sports and Fox channels could televise around 12 Thursday and Friday night games

Hopefully we see it soon so I can start coordinating my work schedule, etc to make as many additional road games as possible. The more notice, the better

  8. I could see how that might have been confusing. I wasn't saying WKU's addition changes the conference championship game; I was just pointing out that not adding them doesn't force us to lose the championship game, ie. we would still have a championship game in 2014 with or without WKU. Basically, to sum up: adding WKU in 2014 adds nothing additional - ie, we jumped the gun when we could've waited. ^ what Billy said above, plus we would already have the 2014 schedule and divisions

  9. The thought occurred to me today that Conference USA could have waited another year on Western Kentucky. By that, I mean, there was no rush to add the Hilltoppers in July 2014. Let me explain:

If C-USA had waited to extend the invitation, then we would have 12 football members in 2014. With 12 members, the conference would be split with 6 members in the East and West division. WEST: North Texas, Rice, UTEP, UTSA, LA Tech, Southern Miss and EAST: UAB, MUTS, Marshall, Old Dominion, FIU, FAU.

    - with 12 teams/ two divisions of 6, the conference would have probably already released the 2014 schedule AND we would still be able to host a conference championship game

    - by adding WKU in 2015, the conference would have easily split into two divisions of 7 with the football addition of Charlotte. WKU and Charlotte join the East and UAB bumps West. No problems

    - the Sun Belt would have been able to host a conference championship game in 2014 since they would have had 12 members instead of 11.

In summary, I would have liked for the conference to have waited an additional year so that we could already have our schedule for 2014 since the addition really adds nothing by happening now instead of in a year. Carry on

  10. Saturday, March 8 Oklahoma 2:00 P.M.

Sunday, March 23 @ TCU noon

    Saturday, April 5 Texas 3:00 P.M. @ UT-Dallas

    Saturday, April12 Baylor 3:00 P.M.

    Friday, April 18 SMU 7:00 P.M.

    http://www.meangreensports.com/sports/w-soccer/spec-rel/012814aac.html

    - three home games and two relatively easy commutes to Fort Worth and Dallas for the other two matches

    - with Baylor's recent groundbreaking on a $3.5 million soccer facility, it is becoming increasingly imperative that we spend more money on Coach Hedlund's soccer digs at MGV. We have an excellent program and are located in a fertile hotbed of talent, but recruits might nix staying at home to head to other schools that spend more $$ on soccer. At the very least, we need modernize the seating area and build a real bathroom/concession facility at the stadium. I would also like to see an updated scoreboard and perhaps a renovated locker room for our team.
