  2. Banowsky thinks some C-USA programs might discontinue football

    To keep their athletic programs afloat, Banowsky said that many schools within his own conference have been forced to subsidize, in some cases through student fees.

    "We heard about the possibility of some institutions having to drop football," Remy said. "That's a realistic possibility, if not for the mere fact that they can't keep up in an environment, or because their values don't align with the notion that they would pay a student athlete for the name, image and likeness."

  3. First C-USA Championship

    After claiming 6 Sun Belt championship titles in 2012-2013, the Mean Green teams were shut out in our first year in Conference USA. The soccer team finished 2nd in both the West and in the conference tournament to affiliate member, Colorado College. I hadn't realized until I came across the following articles that the Tigers were leaving for the Mountain West in 2014. The soccer team has a great schedule and hopefully Coach Hedlund's team has a great chance to claim the first of many C-USA championships for North Texas this upcoming fall

    There are 12 home games slated for the fall with 1 Pac 12, 1 SEC, and 2 Big 12 foes making up one-third of those contests. Make sure you mark your calendars and try to make it out to at least one match to support one of our most successful programs in our quest to win C-USA hardware.

    A few early games even coincide with a home football game the next day/previous day. Abilene Christian/Vanderbilt (SMU) and Gonzaga/TCU (Nicholls State). I'm thinking I might start a tailgate on Friday night, catch a soccer game, and then keep up the party the entire next day

    AD at UNT is easily the best and easiest job in America. No expectations and no results required, from the upper administration or the fan base. RV will put in his 25 and then collect a state pension.

    Underrated post. UNT90 gets it.

    it's not just RV, though. It's his entire senior administration in the athletic department. We as a collective fan base need to demand more of our athletic department. I applaud RV for assisting in the facility upgrades and navigating us towards CUSA, but if we want to go to the next level then upper administration and the big money donors need to clean house and bring in the next AD who will take us there

  6. TV for first few games?

    It's waaaaay too early for them to put out TV schedules. That won't start happening until the first week of August.

    Maybe it's early-onset old age sinking in, but I thought for sure last year the schedules started trickling out in early summer.

    For the past 7-8 years, TV schedules have been announced in mid-June. In fact, our own CUSA announced the 2013 TV schedule on May 7, 2013.

  8. Conference USA Teams Recognized by the NCAA

    if its old, then why is middle tennessee on there?

    because C-USA claimed all the teams that are current members who won the award - which is why MUTS, F_U are on both lists

    you're right. It's a brand new article. The NCAA typically announces these a year after the fact

    and MeanGreen 93-98 was right to look up Sun Belt from last year to see if we were honored.

    we weren't - and now we can all see that the C-USA list had already listed all the current members who received the honor on their list

  10. Softball season finale

    kind of late notice, but if you're in Denton or close by:

    come on out to the softball season finale! First pitch is at 1PM. Just pull your vehicle on up to the outfield wall and catch a great game vs. the C-USA regular season champs, Tulsa. Our softball team is playing to win a school-record 30th game today and to clinch the series win in the rubber match before heading off Boca Raton for the championship tournament

  11. HOD Bowl no longer on New Year's

    so I hope it doesn't end up being super early in December and possibly overlap with the end of the fall semester...

    that shouldn't be a problem. The first bowl game is typically played the third Saturday in December (or two weeks after conference championship games), and final exams are usually the first full week in December - this year graduations are on the 12th and 13th

  12. 2015 C-USA Divisions Discussion

    C-USA is currently sitting on 2 $35 million contracts with CBS sports and Fox. Combined they pay $14 million annually which breaks down to $1 million/school in TV revenue. By going back up to 16, the TV contracts don't have to increase the payout so I say wait until contract renegotiation comes back around. I think the current contracts run through 2016, two years from now. As contract negotiation is going on, Banowsky should discuss with the networks if adding two schools would increase revenue, if not, I say stick at 14. There's no reason to get a smaller piece of pie

    The bad thing about mega-conferences is that you would only see Marshall, MUTS and Southern Miss in Denton once every 14 years under that scenario. I'm perfectly fine with not having to go to some of the East schools very often, but 14 years between visiting destinations would be a long time and would stink for growing our brand in the east.

    It surprises me that other conferences haven't looked at UL, they sit in one of the most fertile per capita NFL states and should probably actually be number two in that state if they were ever funded properly by TV revenues, etc. Tulane and La Tech have more past prestige, but the Cajuns have more potential. They also have a larger, more rabid fan base than the other two.

    Not at all. CUSA teams need to make it a point to schedule MWC and MAC schools in OOC games. Then just beat them. 1. How many OOC games does CUSA have against those 2 conferences this upcoming season?

    Would've loved to swap out Nichols with a New Mexico State or a Toledo. Nichols is a lose/lose game scenario for North Texas. Even after/if we win, what then? Pound our chest for beating Nichols? What if Nichols keeps it really competitive, and by god what if they win.

    New Mexico State is in the WAC/Sun Belt. I think you meant New Mexico. And Nicholls St isn't all lose-lose. It's a chance for another home win at Apogee, which is always preferable to a road game. It's also a chance for Mac to work out any kinks from the first three games, and first conference game, before taking a week off. Many fans love to watch the young guys get in there... an FCS school or lower FBS (a la Idaho last year) allows us to see some of our future Mean Green stars.

    2 tickets in the upper endzone for $61.40, the rest are $75+ . The visitors sideline is marked on the map

    My guess is the ticket office tickets will be in section 32 or maybe 131/132. I saw on some earlier posts that the official visitor tickets (sold through the ticket office) might be in the corner or endzone, so who knows. Does anyone know officially where these tickets will be so we can try to clump together?

    it seems like, given the current climate, Cincinnati and BYU are the most likely candidates to join an expanded Big 12. However, Houston is probably in third.

    i think forevereagle misunderstood Harry. It seems like Harry was saying the Big 12 will add one team from the east, to remove WV's island status, and they will also add one more school - either Houston, or possibly SMU. forevereagle somehow read that to mean Houston and SMU only?

    but why does a sport that doesn't even exist (baseball) get a page, when several successful sports don't? shouldn't it be merged back in with the "others"? otherwise it seems disrespectful, while the traffic doesn't justify its own sub-forum.

    - I would think at the very least it should be Mean Green Baseball/Softball Forum
