At this point, you don't ruin Cotton's redshirt.
He has already played. In basketball I don’t think you can redshirt unless you’re seriously injured. When did he get hurt….?

This conference is going to best itself into submission…. To the point it becomes a one bid league possibly….Hopefully it’s viewed differently by the committee as j believe the top teams in it would contend in most conferences for the top.

We should never play non-D1 schools in basketball, but we are. Same for non-FBS schools in football. We gain more valuable experience as a team playing a Northern Iowa than we ever do playing LSU-Shreveport or UNT-Dallas.
Ah the old self righteous attitude that other schools have against us…. Cool….. UT or TCU just shouldn’t play us….

I can’t think of a scenario where this kind of decision is based on offseason turnover.
can you explain your reasoning here?
The same reason they do this in the NBA and honestly it’s happened at high school if the guy isn’t going to a large program. Don’t want him to injure it again and in a major way that could cause problems leading into next season if he is returning. If he isn’t then we can push it as needed to get the most while we have him.

The NCAA can't stop other tournaments from doing their own thing, and with the way the NIT is being changed and don't want them to.
NCCA could do a lot of things if they grew pair….they have let college athletics run wild. They clearly don’t want control but yet want all the money. Lazy, cowardice… idk. I guess new leadership is needed.

I really wish for the day it’s expanded to 64 teams and no other lower tournaments exist. Would make winning it even bigger.

Just watched the highlights and realized what the issue is with Memphis. NBA coach teaching the NBA style. They don't like grind it out basketball, lazy on defense and flash over substance.
Perhaps, although I’m leaning more toward Penny is a laissez-faire NBA style coach who gives in to the players. He rips into the refs but not his own guys. Worried if he does they will turn or transfer. Same reason Jason Kidd never holds Luka accountable for his childlike tantrums on the court. Superstars…. Hard to control and highly recruited kids who play more AAU ball than organized high school basketball…. That’s a problem.

I picked the middle but honestly it also would hinge on if he and Scott plan to return next season. They partner well together. If so I wouldn’t risk it as we have time. If he is gone then perhaps push him back sooner.

FAU's final stretch is murderer's row., with SMU's schedule a close second Wow.Though he can get reps and warm up in practice it shouldn’t hurt to get him 5-6 minutes in a couple games before the tournament. Run with the starters as they mask/shield and let him go 50-60 percent even. Just getting in game minutes. Don’t want him cold and then suddenly starting and getting 30 plus minutes come tournament time.

I want to at least split with the good teams and beat all the bad ones…. We really need to go 6-0 here heading into the tournament and hope that gets us the first round by. All out. We need Rubin and Noland for this run and the tournament.

I saw Pat Benatar there in about ‘88. Not sure where that stands in the greatest moments at the Super Pit🤣🤣🤣
Saw the Harlem Globetrotters. Also remember WWE raw house shows came through.

Memphis fans not taking the loss well (as expected). Most want the coach gone for their team's performance, not really much about us. 18 pages as of now on their fan forum...

Penny is a good coach. High IQ but a bit too passive. Great recruiter who lets the guys get too loose. I hope he stays and they have success.

Somebody needs to get out there with a towel and wipe that floor. They are only using these moos and just pushing the crap around…. It’s really slippery.
last few home games have been really bad for slipping.

I remember mentioning these scoring droughts once…and somebody told me “everybody has them”
Memphis was stuck on 2 and 4 points for like 3 minutes each…. I like Emmitt but yes it is normal and happens…. We were up 18-4 did their fans say the same thing….

Don't forget Karl Malone.
I didn’t have tickets then, but Lyons would always run his mouth about it in the rec while trying to control who played on middle court….. always a pleasure to run him and who he thought was good off the court 🤣

As NBA talent who has been in the super pit where does Penny rank? Counting coaches, spectators, or players who later made the NBA. I think we have had some surprising stars for Denton.
we have now had Shaq and Penny…. Best what if Duo….

Refs didn’t lose this game for us. We lost it for ourselves.
for those of you who say 7 deep isn’t enough - isn’t that what Grant pretty much ran….7 deep?
Yes and it worked but got lucky. Can’t just run guys into the ground night in night out. Also Edwards pushed the pace too much on the offensive end which puts unneeded wear and tear on guys.

Who, on our bench, would you propose we play more?
Anybody should be able to step up at play 2-3 minutes a half. If you play tight defensive and slow down the offense it’s just a couple possessions either way but the rest on the back end will make all the difference the last 5-7 minutes of the game.

Need to be playing more guys. 2-3 minutes extra rest would make all the difference. We are too tired to close out games because Hodge sits guys on the bench. 13 scholarship players and we pretty run out 7.

Edwards needs to cut back on the hero ball. He had two guys open on the perimeter and ended up getting blocked and ruining the possession.

You basically stated that shooting in the gym and being successful won't translate to the game.
He defers because he doesn't have confidence in his shot. The young man needs to find that confidence and the coaches are responsible for helping him with that. It starts in practice.
Needs to be with contact and 5-5.

Some weird "why practice when practice isn't the actual game?" suggestion here.
https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/39447970/usc-juju-watkins-explodes-51-keys-upset-stanford🧐 where did I say don’t practice? I just mean simply getting nil shots is fine but doesn’t translate to just being an amazing shooter in live games. Stone is a spot up shooter. He needs to work to get to his spot and take the shot. Defers too much. If he keeps missing bench him and try Cotton then. Keep trying.

A coach needs to pull Stone aside, tell him to be in the gym every available moment shooting and send a student assistant to rebound for him and just feed him the ball.
Yeah but shooting in a game is a lot different than shooting around in the gym. Especially just open shots. Could hit 26-30 three balls when going around the arc. In a game that won’t happen.

Where do we go from here?

Is this rule new? In football it was 4 games out of 12 (I guess 30%) but basketball has always been once you touch the floor it’s burned. 😕
