  1. Huge win!!! Props to the coaching staff and players.  I wanted to see how the players would react from hearing SL last week, and they responded like a team should.  The defense played great tonight, they came up time and time again, it was refreshing to see. Excited to see how they respond next week.

Both is fine, but it's a lot easier and a better experience to undersell and over deliver than over selling and under delivering like ole RV used to do. If we get into a position where we are in consideration for a conference change then by all means seize the opportunity

Who is 5-8?  Not Mason Fine unless he has shrunk.  Please spread that misinformation somewhere else.  He is listed at 5-11 (probably more likely between 5-10 and 5-11).  There are photos of him next to Littrell, who is 5-10, and Fine appears to be slightly taller than Littrell.

Know who else is 5-11?  Greg Ward at UH.  He seemed to do ok against OU this weekend.

Fine was standing next to Wilson on multiple occasions and Wilson was clearly 3-4 inches taller than Fine.  Yes, he's listed at 5'11 but I saw him stand next to a guy who's just at 6'0.  I know some of you older guys don't understand angles and how one angle can turn a 190-pound girl into one that looks like she's 125 but it's possible. I trust my eyes more than a picture.

  4. Yes, his height will be a factor. He's 5'8 and guess how many starting 5'8 quarterbacks have started for a D-1 team?  I don't know but I can tell you it's probably not many.

However, he looked the part. He was in much more control of the offense than Morris.  When he got hit he got right back up and looked over for the call. He was up at the line before the ball was set. For UNT fans to relate too, this was Derek Thompson-esque during his first drive vs. Ark State when he went 3-3 and 76 yards or something during his last game of his freshman year.

After Fine's drive I think he can lead this team but let's see if his body will handle it.

Anyone catch this: "It just felt like the right time. I think with a new football coach coming in, with basketball in a situation where there may have to be a decision made "

So handing the reigns over for the new AD to fire Benford and hire a new coach?

Yes, RV wasn't allowed to fire anyone after his fiasco with him firing McCarney.  It's been pretty clear from that point on that RV and Smatty were on two different pages.

Look, you are talking about a kid with no other FBS offers.  We already have plenty of those on our roster.  You're now wanting to compare two rosters full of kids with only one FBS offer, such as UTSA and UNT have?

And. what's more, to say we missed out because a kid ended up at UTSA...and who hasn't played a snap of college football yet?

    Nuts.

The goal of Littrell, hopefully, is to not have to entice kids without FBS offers.  That's the goal.  The goal isn't to sweep no offer kids away from UTSA.

I mean, can we raise the bar just an inch or two?  Fighting about who got a no offer kid?

I don't know who you are, but I like you.  You my friend, speak the truth, and I appreciate that

Good question. I guess my assumption with Junior is in relation to his suicide. Then again, steroid use has led to bigger, faster athletes which led to bigger, faster collisions and the trend to knock people over instead of tackling them. Kids follow what they see the pros do and many coaches look the other way regarding how players get bigger and stronger.

According to Boston Univeristy, It's the small repetitive head impacts that lead to CTE, not the concussions. Concussions still pay an effect, but not to the effect the small repetitive hits to the head.

Agan, that's how I interpreted the medical review.

The boxing profession is first place that noticed this phenomenon, only they called it being "punchy" or "Punch drunk". In popular media these "punchy" guys were being taken care of by the industry by providing them with menial jobs at gyms etc. I suspect that the truth is more along the lines of kicking them to the curb.

I hope our society is serious about this situation, because the number of football teams in America keeps going up and up. Especially in the ever growing suburban areas. CTE will not be the exclusive problem of pro/college football teams and players' families, but our society as a whole. For every Junior Seau out there, there are thousands of others who will potentially develop the same brain deteriorating condition. Some earlier and some later. But regardless of the timeline, someone's family, and eventually their community, will be impacted by these (at the risk of sounding over dramatic) walking time bombs.

So much truth in this post.  That's why I believe we can still have a civil thread about something other than what directly impacts UNT, but as a society as a whole.

Junior might agree with my steroid theory, but this will never come out because it never came out if he used or not.

Again, what about the 18 year old high school student?  Are we going to assume that he took steroids too? Or his he just the unicorn....

I haven't seen the Dateline special, however, I feel like human nature is, for better or worse, prone to greed.

For decades, the tobacco/cigarette industry hid/downplayed medical studies about the adverse effects of its products on longtime users.  I do feel like the NFL did the same.

As I say, I didn't not see the Dateline special, but I did watch one on PBS a few months ago.  It seemed to me like the doctors for the NFL were shills.  It was disappointing to see that.  They were ignoring the wives (or, at least one wife) of former players who did show CTE after their deaths.

I just don't understand it.  To me, it's like the circus and animals - why would you mistreat the beings that are making you money?  Simply because a new batch is drafted every year?

Of course, I think the PBS show - like all shows - was probably skewed to a certain degree; but, not so much to where I think it was akin to a Michael Moore-, Spike Lee-, or Oliver Stone-type skew.  I think the PBS show did attempt to let the NFL tell their side; but, the NFL seemed to be to busy trying to prove CTE wasn't caused by football.

There is something to this thing, and the NFL and NCAA are starting - albeit reluctantly - to react to it.  Unfortunately, my feeling is that they are reacting not out of concern for the players, but concern for their bottom line.

I also like the comment about the role of steroids and bigger players.  One way or the other, it's still all a part of modern football.  Yet, you can go back and read the biographies and autobiographies of former Oakland Raiders and see that the teams are just as guilty as the league as a whole in ignoring/downplaying/glossing over a wide range of player injuries.

I completely agree with you. The NFL doesn't care about safety, history has shown it.  People thought they could be because the were non-profit but now there in the for-profit business.  It is sad, and the more stuff I'm reading is making me want to cancel my season tickets.  Nothing to do with RV and the program but the sport as a whole.

I don't like to compare what happened in the past, you can't change it.  We can only change the future

  10. Holding onto Wallace is like keeping Benford. The guy has been here for 4 years and hasn't done anything on the field.  It's time to move on.  Simply, the kid doesn't know how to play.  That's not coming from me, that's coming from all of his former teammates.

You're talking about two totally unrelated things. The Red Soxs/Yankees video was being used as filler material. It has to be cheap to be filler so you cut at the easiest spot to make the film work as cheap filler. When using filler around an event, the filler needs to be at least somewhat relevant to the event. Thus the Red Sox/Yankees filler around their  game. I can't think of sporting event to which a Mike Tyson film would be relevant. He's so far removed from boxing these days he doesn't count.

When cutting down programming for PBS national pledge shows, I have cut out programming directly related to the title of the program when one cut would make it fit and the alternative would take most of a day to make work. Money is the driver.

BTW, I didn't give you the negative on your post!

Thank you for all of your insight to network programming.  I really appreciate it.
