  1. You have to think the bowl would strongly consider riviving an old in-state rivalry between UNT and TXST... If nothing else, it would be great for attendance on both sides
  2. Well it got even more bland in this last legislative session when they dropped the "-San Marcos" tag from our name. I hope we are never considered "TSU" anywhere... To me, that is bland. You could be talking about Tarleton, Texas Southern, Tennessee State, etc. I much prefer the "TXST" moniker
  3. So I'm curious - since we are new to the Sun Belt and y'all were here for many years. Did y'all refuse to call them "UL" or "Louisiana" to simply get under their skin? Surely you didn't care THAT much what a team prefers to be called..... just looking for insight, no trolling
  4. Since we were left out, I think our admin wants to take after TCU and their success in the MWC. If we can get our fans rallied around a program because of winning, not because of who we are playing, then the rest should work itself out. Personally I'm liking the Sun Belt and being in the southeast - the WAC was far too distant for me as a fan
  5. I think that will be the case if we beat Louisiana this weekend in Lafayette
  6. Don't discount what your own coach is doing. Fran's system is VERY one deminsional unless you have all the right pieces... and if you don't, he still runs it anyways (see USM, PVA&M, and Tech) Fortunately, I think we've found our own Johnny Manziel that fits perfectly in our system - he's a dual threat 3A state champ out of Stephenville who has a beautiful throw, yet is very quick on his feet. Once Fran burned his redshirt on Sat, the whole atmosphere changed. The offense "got it" and we dominated most of the game. Btw - really enjoyed watching y'all agaisnt Georgia... pulling for you the rest of the way!
  7. Totally know what you mean. I was a student the first year they did the fee increase and saw it rise each year until it hit the state max of $20 p/ credit hour. For TXST, it was really our only immediate source of funding to commit to the success of our Athletics. We've been mediocre in FCS football (outside a nice playoff run) and terrible in basketball... this move made it clear that we had higher aspirations than the Southland Conference
  8. Not sure if it's that high quite yet, but it sure is rapidly increasing. Our donations are already on par with UNT and budget should be right there too. And it shows through moves like hiring Danny Kaspar and increasing his pay to $270k base (was making ~$130k at SFA)
  9. We've been there, y'all... and it isn't fun. Do NOT underestimate them.
  10. If you want to improve your bottom line, make the investment in schools who have infrastructure to compete. Texas State Profile - Austin DMA - 34k enrollment - $119 million endowment - Emerging Research University - $20 million athletics budget Basketball - This is where we struggle, but Head Coach Davalos' contract is up this year and is not likely to be renewed. Expect Texas State to engage in a national search like they did when ultimately choosing Coach Fran Football - As everyone knows, we are expanding our stadium to 30k in time for our home opener this season against Texas Tech. - We signed a hell of a recruiting class, even compared to y'all ( according to Rivals, TXST: eleven 3* and thirteen 2* vs UNT: five 3* and sixteen 2*). - Playing FCS schools in a 16000 seat stadium, we averaged more than 15k last season Baseball/Softball - The Sun Belt is a damn competitive baseball league and Texas State would add to the competition. We've gone to the postseason two out of the last three years and have won the Southland the last three years. - Texas State softball is also competitive and just beat UNT 1-0. They've also been to the postseason two out of the last three years I believe. - Both programs have solid facilities., in fact, check out our latest addition to Bobcat Ballpark.. a caboose donated by an alum turned into a suite
  11. Did y'all see the options? UTA > UVU Crazy to think the WAC could soon have 4 schools in Texas should they decide to invite Lamar
  12. I said they're hot, but it stops there. Has UNT's dance team performed at two inaugurations?
  13. UNT gave up on dance teams in high school?
  14. No doubt your dancers are hot.. but to say UNT's dance program is better than the Strutters is without merit.
  15. Now as to why I have a strutter as my pic? I'm simply an ambassador, showcasing Texas State's prime collection of beautiful women to others from universities who aren't as blessed to see trim like this day-in and day-out.
  16. Texas State Strutters? From their website.. This organization is unique in that it was the FIRST precision dance team formed at a four-year university and is currently the largest in the nation. For 51-years Strutters have served as ambassadors for Texas State University on state, national and international levels with performances in 24 countries spanning 4 continents. One of the most impressive honors was their selection as the first U.S. dance team to perform in the People’s Republic of China. Other highlights include: two Presidential Inaugural Parades, numerous NFL & NBA halftime performances, the nationally televised Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®, MTV’s Total Request Live, a national television commercial for Coca-Cola, appearances in five movies, and recently, the Texas State Strutters represented Texas State University and the City of San Marcos in the NBC network television program, “America’s Got Talent,” out-performing hundreds of acts to reach the live semifinal round of competition.
  17. Meh, what UTSA is doing is unprecedented. A lot of what their bonehead fans say is just that, but there's fire where there's smoke. They have solid leadership and are recruiting nicely for a team who has never played a down of football.
  18. Yes, the WAC needs to find an eighth football member by 2014. I'd look for LaTech to rule the WAC in 2012, but NMSU won't be second.. maybe Idaho, but not NMSU
  19. Plus, there is a 2 year grace period allowed to get members if we do fall under the required amount.
  20. With that said, don't be surprised to hear Benson come knocking yet again
  21. I know y'all are sick and tired of WAC news, but there has been some speculation that the conference would lose its auto bid.. News from the NCAA meeting states the WAC will retain its bid
