  1. Obviously Parker is a major weapon but I am interested on your other bell cow guys.

On our side of the fence, RB Lance Dunbar is our main weapon and if you can box him in it will be tough for us. I think Dunbar will be one of the best running backs you face this season.

Just got a text from a buddy on campus who just walked by someone wearing a Clemson shirt. WTH????

  2. This punishment glosses over the use of a stolen check to secure the loan. Sure, the loan violates NCAA rules, but the stolen check violates the law. This only makes me guess that MTSU does't care about the broken law?

It would appear that the NCAA will still be making a decision on whether or not the 30% will suffice. Either way... you bring in a very limited experience backup and have him play against 4 teams of which they will will one (Austin Peay). I don't wish this on any team and the fans must be really disappointed.

Honestly they are in danger of being 2-6 by the time they play us (I will give them ULM and Austin Peay). The Troy game being his first one back will not be easy esp with him out the first 4 games. Ark St. will not roll over on them either as they are placed 3rd in the Belt by quite a few folks (pre-Dasher suspension polls).

  3. I think the original post was meant entirely in jest. We're all excited about Abron potentially coming here and we'd love to have him. Even Emmitt. You don't want to know what that guy was willing to do back when Tristan Thompson was about to commit to us back in 2007.

Thanks for your insights. You've been a great addition to the forum, and I hope you'll stick around with us through the season and beyond.

but that was back in 2007 and everyone was doing it......right? I mean....right?

  4. Don't know why we are arguing this guys...they have less than 1/3 the students we have. They also live in a town of just over 20,000 people. The closest town worthy of mention is Monroe at just over 30 miles away...with it's own school in the city. If ULM can't make a metro of over 270k popular..then how the heck will Ruston have any sort of media market whatsoever??? Yes...UNT's Football team is slumping right now...but I still wouldn't trade our potential future for your future. Lets take a look at the cities that have existing CUSA teams within them.

I have to use 2000 Census Results in most cases

UCF- Orlando (over 2 million people in the metro)

Marshall- Huntington WV (a 285k Metro)

Rice- Houston Tx (almost 6 million metro)

SMU- Dallas (over 6 million metro)

    UTEP- El Paso (751k metro)

Tulsa- in.......Tulsa (almost 1 million people in metro)

ECU- Greenville SC (183k in metro)

Houston- in Houston...derr....same stats as above

Tulane- New Orleans (1.2 million metro)

    USM- Hattiesburg Miss. (148k metro)

Memphis- in Memphis TN (1.2 million metro)

UAB- Birmingham AL (1.2 million metro)

Now lets see what Ruston is working with.............oh......................oh dear..................man that sux.

    Stickville.jpg

So you take Ruston's 20k (does this include the 10k students?) and give them absolutely positively nothing to do on the weekends............next thing you know.....they are showing up to every football game. Now take our situation.....we have barely begun to tap into the school spirit potential we could have in the metro alone and still have the same amount showing up to our games as "LA Tech's extremely loyal fan base". What does that tell you? LA Tech has peaked....that stadium...if ever replaced at all will never be the quality of stadium that we are currently raising. The state is poor and the CUSA knows this. They aren't trying to get into the 87k graduates of LA Tech's pockets....but maybe the 175k alumni of UNT with over 100k of them in our metro alone would make more sense?????? Kinda a no brainer.

Now I am not saying we are a shoe-in for any expansion by the conference.....but Ruston will not be able to tout the "but we were in the WAC" card...or the "but we have 17k in the stands" argument that they currently spout out.

If we get beat out....it will not be by this school.

  5. I wish we had 30-40 people... It was more like 20, and the rest of the people had nothing to do with NT - the manager on duty let them take prime tables in what was supposed to be a private room.

Unfortunately, I don't have time anymore to arrange game-watching parties for what is now a non-functioning alumni chapter. It was easy to get 20 or so people back when we were winning, and when the games were only on GamePlan (meaning that people would come to a game watching party rather than paying to watch at home). But the Clemson game is on ESPNU.

If enough of us want to get together, I'll come, and probably can convince some friends to come as well. Part of the problem is that we're so spread out - SW Houston/Sugar Land, 249/1960, The Woodlands, Kingwood, Clear Lake/Galveston...

But I didn't care for Texadelphia - the TVs are too small, and we wouldn't have a dedicated area to watch our game. Besides, the two times I've gone there to try to watch a game, they said they would have it, both times the game was blacked out - they didn't make an effort to find out.

    Here's a few other choices:

    - We could try Fox & Hound again

    - SRO at Northwest Mall - they've always treated us pretty well

    - Buffalo Wild Wings - if someone knows the manager at one, maybe they'd give us a big screen. This would also be a good choice to have smaller local gatherings, since there's quite a few in the Houston area.

With the advent of Social Media becoming evermore common....and an obvious increase in fan base of the team and our school....you shouldn't have a prob reestablishing a decent crew of Alum in the area. Start a Facebook page for Houston Alum....then if you really wanna help out look for Alum in your area through the browse filter and send invites to as many as you can. It starts there and the worst you can say in the end is that you tried. Best of luck! GMG!

  6. I realize there is a watching party at the Pourhouse in Denton as well, and that's a very good thing. But, I do want to keep this thread near the top of page one so folks can have an option...especially those coming from south of the bridge over the lake and perhaps from the mid-cities area. Not trying to compete with the great folks at the Pourhouse, just want folks to know they have options as to location. The more places we have the Mean green seen and heard the better I would say....

Since this one is not "pinned", I'll have to keep trying to add info to keep it on page one...sorry!

    GO MEAN GREEN...GO ALUMNI!

    Doing my part

  7. Memphis poster is kinda hammering La Tech with UNT's new stadium and NCAA trips.

    http://www.latechbbb.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79753

I love the clown who tries to state that our attendance is less than theirs. As of 2008 it was by like 600 people a game....and to think that the new stadium won't push that number up by 15% (at least) is just plain outright returded. Where is that link for 2009 attendance stats again??

  8. Congratulations to Nathan Tune and family. This is good news and good to get it behind the team as they prepare for Clemson. We are so very lucky to have both Tune and Thompson (and our other QB's for that matter as well) to lead the team into the season. I feel very confident in the QB's this season and it will only help to have Riley able to play a snap or two each game to keep the defenses on their toes. Can you imagine what defensive coordinators on opposing teams will have to game plan for now that they did not have to worry about a season ago? I can't wait for the season to start. I am 100% convinced that the Mean Green faithful will see a very new and improved Mean Green hit the field at Clemson on Sept. 4th.

GO MEAN GREEN. Time to strap on the helmets and tee it off!

    Here Here...Congrats Nathan!

  9. My post wasn't meant as a shot at Texas St., it was more to point out to some on here (and maybe you, if you feel this way) that Texas St. is light years behind where UNT is at this point. Maybe the new endzone construction will add 15,000 seats. I don't see that as a positive. Your stadium's capacity now is just over 15K, so you are essentially adding 15K additional end zone seats? We did that with Fouts 18 years ago. Didn't make sense then, and it shouldn't to Texas St. It would be smarter to extend your existing sideline stands from the 10 yard line through the end zone on each side of the field. Seriously, right now your stadium has a hard time comparing to the Mansfield ISD Stadium (which is rather nice, just FYI).

Curious as to how many times you guys sold out the stadium last year. Curious as to where you plan to park 31K fans, as there are NO lots anywhere around your stadium.

I do wish you guys the best, but I'd prefer to keep you where you belong, which is very distant in our rearview mirror.

  10. If you want people to cover us, shouldn't you encourage people to actually pay for the paper, sign up for the site, etc.?

I know this a one off thing and (believe it or not) I'm not just trying to single you out, but if we don't support the people covering us as a whole, we could easily lose them sooner than we think.

From the cheapest man alive (myself) I must also agree with Quoner....

  11. Sweet. Smack talk from the 6th or 7th most relevant school in the Carolinas!

If we couldn't open the season against North Carolina, Duke, South Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest, or the Citadel... At least we could open it against Clemson.

Welcome to the board, and congrats on getting to waggle your dongs at someone besides ECU or SC-Upstate for a change.

But we'd be a lot more inclined to listen to team color smack talk from a school that doesn't look like Prince wearing a hunting vest. OREGON FANS want to vomit when they look at your uniforms, for crying out loud.

And you Clemson fans obviously don't know jack about football. Or you'd realize our kicking game sucks. Only a moron would predict us to kick a successful field goal at this point in fall practice.

Tasty....for you Clemson Tigress Fans....is the one we send in to go toe-to-toe with anyone and everyone worthy of butting heads with. Though I sure would like to see you go into SMUt's Bball forum and handle that homer of a fan by the name of PonyDoh. All in good fun...hope this game is everything both team's fans have been waiting on.

  12. South Grand Prairie High School's Trey Norris announced his verbal commitment Saturday morning, choosing a Sun Belt Conference school that's quickly becoming a popular choice.

Comment on TexasHoops about Norris committing. Gotta Luv the "quickly becoming a popular choice" comment. :D

My next door neighbor growing up is Mike Kunstadt....great guy. I need to see what his thoughts are on this sesson's potential recruitment class.

  13. MTSU Board

Either way...I am convinced that their team starts the season with a giant issue on their plate. Whether or not he is guilty/punishable is not the question...but moreso..how will this news affect the entire team's performance? If this were a home game for us I was thinking signs...but that would be classless.

    Thoughts?

  14. The Denton Chapter of the UNT Alumni Assoc. is planning a WATCH PARTY for the game at a location convenient for folks in the area. We are trying to locate a venue outside of Denton to accommodate folks from other areas, but still within Denton County. We are going to check with the good folks at Fox & Hound in Lewisville so we can be "south of the lake" as "north of the lake" seems to "prevent" some from attending. We'll keep you posted on developments. Always fun to watch with other members of the Mean Green Nation.

Great idea...Fox and the Hound is a perfect merger spot for the two.
