  1. Well I'm not just chatting it up with my friends. Which is what it sounds like you are doing. I am actually... Hold on now this may seem a little crazy.... I cant believe that I am admitting this but... I'm actually giving money. Yes that is correct I am actually one of those who puts my money where my mouth is. Ok truthfully it is not much. But every little bit helps. And for the record this is not my main college. I never went to school at UNT but I do live in Denton so I have adopted UNT as my own. If we were able to get all alumni to give a small sum of money we would not be talking about building a new sstadium we would actually be out there in the afternooon in lawn chairs watching the big equiptment move dirt.

Lets all stop influencing people and start doing something....

And to the supporters on this site which give money and time to UNT athletics, thanks.

I thought financial support was a given. Dont you think the first step in getting support for the alumni would be to get them to the games?? Yeah, I do too. I mean you're asking them for money for something they take no part in or have no interest in. But if we were able to play schools regularly like SMU, La Tech...etc. then they might get out of the house, spend some money on admission, and then maybe support a little more. And we're probably not going to do that playing ULL, or ULM... Now dont get me wrong, I think it's great that you're supporting a school you didn't even attend but are you going to the games, telling your friends to go, etc.?

Hey, either way I'm a huge UNT fan...but I'm one who would like to see some good football, good recruits, great plays, packed stadiums with nothing but green (and the same shade of green).

  2. Call it what you will but in a mid major you have to win year in and year out to get any sort of recognition. If we win the sunbelt and go say 2 out of 3 OOC we may not even finish in the top 25. now the second or third year we will.

There is NO WAY a Sun-Belt Conference team will EVER be in the top 25....EVERRRR

How do you like the picture :D

  3. Sooo.. What are you specifically doing to help build a new stadium and to get a baseball team so that we can even think about a new conference???

Great question-and all too often not asked enough.

It starts with the people. I am trying to get people to realize that the SBC sucks. Once people realize that we can then work together to change it, but for some odd reason some people think that this conference is 'ok', and a select few, 'good'. I am not one to sit back and complain about the way things are, I would love for us to get out of the rut we're in, but for anything to happen everyone has to be on the same page. I don't think a new stadium is essential to us moving into a new conference, a baseball team...yes. Thats why I'm trying out....not really but I would.

So to sum up your question; I'm trying to influence people. I'm trying make people see that the future of UNT is NOT in the Suck-belt conference. I'm trying to change the status quo so that students, fans, and alumni can say that We Are North Texas....

Now....what are you doing........or what is anyone doing?

  4. It's kind of funny that when we were in the same conference with Boise State and Nevada people use to say the same thing that they now say about being in the Sun Belt Conference. Attendance sucks because no one knows who Boise State is and doesn't care. Now that BSU has built up their program everyone wants to be back in a conference with them.

If we take care of our own house (seems like we have some momentum again), we should do just fine.

    Keith

Or we could have done like Boise st and Nevada and got the heck out of the Sunbelt at the first opportunity. I think we all agree that both of their athletic programs, school spirit, financial situations, and fan support are way better than UNT. Perhaps UNT could be where Boise st and Nevada are now if we had gotten out when we could of.

I think the best way to 'take care of our own house' is to get the heck out of dodge (no pun intended....at all....even a little bit) :D

I dont care about being in a conference with them. I care about having a football program like theirs.

  5. Lets see what people on some other threds are saying:

    "QUOTE(MeanGreen61 @ Jan 18 2007, 10:58 AM)

For you sunbelt fans go check out this website and see where our fellow SBC are stacking up. Then look at the WAC and CUSA and MWC.

  6. Sorry, learning how to post replies. :D

What is there to beam about? That I am talking to people that just want to make the SBC better? How do we do that?? We are competeing against schools that have just become 1A. The SBC is a conference that you start in and QUICKLY move out of as soon as you can. not one you try to make the most of and just hope that it gets better, because it aint!

No, I actually haven't. They are always doing something to get more fans at the games...and when does that happen?? When we play schools that mean something. Save the money on the free shirts and towels do something to boost the Football program. Why focus on the symptom when we should be focusing on the problem??

We have much more than an 'attendance problem', we have NO fan support and free t shirts will not solve that problem. Better games against better schools WILL.

  7. You're love of UNT and our affiliate is beaming. I love your attitude. Is your dad from SMU? I think he just dumped something in this thread.

I've been to many football and bball games in MANY different venues. I don't recall - do you? - even one that DOESN'T give away shirts. Don't put the attendance spin on promotions. It is my experience that UNT athletics does some wonderful things with promotions. Fee free to disagree. But not with tie-dye.

Hard to argue. But we always had some attendance problems, even when we dominated (did we even dominate? we blew out Baylor and ArkSt, but other than we basically squeaked by with hard defense and a ball-control offense). The counter-argument is a GREAT 2002 NMSU/Sun Belt championship game. Seems to me that if something is on the line, even a conference championship for this "sinking ship" Sun Belt, the fans will come. I think that's something to build on.

  8. First of all, it is really hard to dye a football program. And I don't like the idea of our unis looking tie-dye-ish.

Second of all, two of those teams SMU and Tulsa aren't even in the WAC (they are in CUSA). There is no point in being in that WACked out conference because the benefits don't even come close to the expense. All we would have is La Tech to travel with. And outside of Boise St and FresnoI dont care too much about the schools there either.

die1 /daɪ/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[dahy] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

–verb (used without object), died, dy·ing. 1. to cease to live; undergo the complete and permanent cessation of all vital functions; become dead.

Well regardless of what conference they are in, they sure arent in the Sun Butt Conference. And either way you look at it people show up to those games when we play those teams. I cant believe people somehow think that the SButtC is better than the WAC. Boise beat OU, Fresno st almost beat USC last year, Hawaii stomped Arizona St , San jose beat New mexico this bowl, Nevada almost beat Miami. These are schools that fans want to see NT play. Its a strong conference. So you say well those schools will be drafted up to bigger better conferences, what happens then? Well the schools that dominate the weaker conferences move up (UNT) so the conference doesnt move back down it keeps growing.

Benefits dont come close to the expenses, you have have no idea what the benefits will be and dont even know what he costs will be. I would certainly travel a little farther away to watch a MUCH better game against a MUCH better team in a MUCH better conference than go to a neighboring city to watch...all the opposite of above.

You may not care about the schools but how could you possibly care for ULM, ULL, FIU, FAU? Please...

  9. NO.

    WAC = Kiss of death.

Build the Belt, and the program, and bide your time.

Who on earth would want to stay in the crummy SBC? The teams suck the school suck the sports suck.

None of our fans want to go to a game where they play some school that they have never heard of. You all are complaining about the cost of traveling. What about the cost of a dying football program where they have to give out free shirts so people will come to the games because otherwise no one will come we play a bunch of no namers?

When we play teams that people have heard of like SMU, La Tech, and Tulsa people actually come to the games. When we play La Monroe no one comes and they aren't going to start now.

Proof, my first year at UNT we dominated our conference. We blew out Baylor that year. BUT we still had problems getting fans and when you asked why people didnt come, they said it was because there was no competition. Well now the tables have turned and we aren't any good and now people dont want to come because we suck. BUT they do come when we play teams that people have heard of and what does that mean...more money.

Lets get out of this sinking ship as soon as we can. No use drowning.

My vote CUSA, WAC, MWC here we come....

  10. My girlfriend is on the UNT swim team. In the mornings they work out at the same time the football team does. She told me yesterday that she saw TD in the weight room with the players while they were working out. She said in my 3.5 yrs of being on the swim team and working out, she had never seen DD with the football team in the weight room. As a result she said the football team would often goof around. By contrast, she said that TD was pushing the guys when they would get tired and encouraging them to keep going.

Nice to see a coach get his hands dirty with the players...

  11. Thoughts from a newbie.

I want to share a short story regarding my thoughts on the proposed stadium:

I went to my first Rangers game a few months back and when I walked into the stadium I was amazed at the size of it and its capacity. If I had to guess how many people were there I would have said about 40K. Well, I was shocked when they announced the nights attendance at a little over 24K.

I thought about why there seemed to be so many more people than that. The reason is because of the build of the seats. Their seats are more vertical while Fizlouts field is more horizontal. All this to say that we need to build the new stadium more vertical, whether we have 1 deck or 2. Look at TCU's stadium, the upper deck is very vertical.

What will this do for us:

Make it look like more people are attending.

Make it look like we have more seats that we do.

Keep more sound in if we could ever use that as an advantage.

Lastly, make it more visible from the highway.

Just my suggestions. Now someone take them to RV.
