  1. It is rumored that Janaye Woods will not be returning to the Mean Green Soccer team for 2008 season. Details are unknown.
  2. By comparison, we were 14th last year in region....... got good players last year too, no way this class is worse.
  3. Buzz outdid themselves again and significantly underrated a highly superior UNT recruiting class, placed 23rd in Central Region. Just get more frustrating every year..... while the national rankings are not complete yet, this will guarantee a top 150 finish nationally (out of 320 D-1 programs). Unbelieveable the schools that were placed ahead of us! I cannot be convinced otherwise that either there is a lack of communication about our program to these ranking services, or they are not truly unbiased evaluations, or both. This class should have been a top 10 region, top 15 worst case. Enjoy.........and fire away. Buzz Soccer Website
  4. Other issues too. Who to play, what conference to ask for OOC invite? Not enough men's teams in SBC.
  5. Gonna have to spin this one...... we looked real good until the manpower shortage (and the referees!) came into play. 19 ND players vs 13 UNT players against that team is tough. We led 2-1 until the 30 minute mark first half. Fast paced half, wore us down. We definitely held our own in first half. Refs allowed two critical non-calls for offsides, both resulting in breakaway goals for ND. We folded mainly from fatigue and good execution by ND. By halftime we were down 5-2. After that we just tried to remain competitive. The last two ND goals were scored fairly late in the second half. Final 7-2 Canada team up next on Tuesday at home 7:30p.
  6. This is actually a tournament, called Panda Cup. Not sure about now, but in the past, it consisted of top college teams looking for Spring games, local Big-Club club teams (Sting, FC Texas, etc), and a contingent of internatiional teams (originally China U-17, U19 I think, hence Panda Cup). UNT played OU there a couple years back, as well as a few other schools. The club teams got to play a mix of College and Intl teams in their approx age group. The college teams got to play 2-3 games solid competition and maybe an intl. ND may be showcasing (several players and recruits for next year are form this area), but more likely primarily they chose the tourney for the Spring climate and the tournament itself.
  7. Appears USA match will NOT happen. Did receive some news that the Canadian game is possibly an exemption to the allowable 5 dates in the spring, and we may be able to get another match in, if we can find a school with an open date left at this late juncture.
  8. Still no word on whether we will get a USA National team visit to Denton. That remains unconfirmed
  9. Yep I hosed up. It is SUNDAY, but they did change the time to NOON at Craig Ranch. Mckinney. They are not posting the spring schedule on UNT website. However, Next Game is a home game at UNT field Tuesday night 7:30p vs a Canadian National Team
  10. As of today, the planned UNT Women's Spring exhibition soccer match with Notre Dame is still on for Sat at Craig Ranch.
  11. For those who do not know, Notre Dame regularly is in the NCAA Top 10 each year, and regularly are in the Final four. This will be another huge exhibition for UNT Women.
  12. Appears according to today's Soccer Home Page that Women's Soccer now have Notre Dame scheduled on Sunday Mar 30th at Mckinney Craig Ranch 1:00pm. Not sure yet what that means for the two games that were on 3/29???? Very fluid........
  13. Great weekend for Women's soccer. UNT Women knocked off Midwestern State 2-0 on Friday, and stunned Iowa State 1-0 today! UNT defense looked great both games and posted two shutouts. Goals by Kendall Juett and Janaye Woods on Friday for UNT. Today, Juett got behind the Iowa State defense on a counterattack breakaway set up by a perfect long-ball played from Katy Booth . The win for UNT vs. a Big 12 school was very big even if a Spring exhibition game. Very good crowd today too. Helped by the fans of several local club and high school graduates from this area that are playing for Iowa State. Both games were full-sided games and were very spirited and competitive.
  14. the latest schedule......Please note THIS WEEKEND Fri feb 29 7:00 pm at HOME vs Midwestern Sun Mar 2 10:00 am at HOME vs Iowa St Sat Mar 29th 12:00p at HOME vs. A&M Commerce Sat Mar 29th 7:00 p at HOME vs Incarnate Word TBA UNT at HOMEvs Celtic UNT at HOME vs USA Women U-20 Natl Team
  15. yes sorry. Meant to say Rice dropped the UNT game. We were originally supposed to have 5 games I think, including SFA and Rice. Got one resch to Houston, then they dropped out. Can't remember...... wish our website was updated with tourney summary! I did not get to go this year. Got the player updates
  16. Pretty much one or the other. If baseball is back, then mens soccer will be pretty much a done deal. We had a lengthy discussion last year in threads related to Title IX challenges those two additions would bring.
  17. I'll get the schedule up here on a post, it stays in flux during Spring as teams drop out due to injuries and short rosters. IA State is coming as well as US Under 20's. Give me a day or two to get the latest version of schedule. Most games are small-sided 6 v 6, as was this weekend. These two are supposed to be full sided I believe. Only played three this weekend, all 6 v 6. Rice and Houston dropped out. Only lost one, to A&M 4-1 I think. Much better than the 25-1 debacle down there last year!
  18. NCAA rules on fields below. We are still under max allowable per Section 1B. We are at the very minimum for "new facilities" Dimensions SECTION 1. a. The field of play shall be rectangular, the width of which shall not exceed the length. b. The width shall not be more than 80 yards [73.15m] nor less than 65 yards [59.44m] and the length shall not be more than 120 yards [109.73m] nor less than 110 yards [100.58m]; however, fields of less than minimal dimensions may be used by prior written mutual consent of the competing institutions. The optimum size is 75 yards [68.58m] by 120 yards [109.73m]. New facilities shall be a minimum of 70 yards [64.01m] in width by 115 yards [105.15m] in length.
  19. FIFA Rules allow for Min/Max dimensions, depending on the type of competition. Dimensions The fi eld of play must be rectangular. The length of the touch line must be greater than the length of the goal line. Length: minimum 90 m (100 yds) maximum 120 m (130 yds) Width: minimum 45 m (50 yds) maximum 90 m (100 yds) International Matches Length: minimum 100 m (110 yds) maximum 110 m (120 yds) Width: minimum 64 m (70 yds) maximum 75 m (80 yds) We are at 115 x 72 I believe, closer to international dims.,well withing the avg size of most complex footprints. While a little short than the max allows, the biggest disadvantage is in the width where play can be expanded wide and spread the field. Looking at the field, there is little room to have widened the field much more on either side. No way we could have gone 100 wide as allowed in the standard FIFA dims. All that being said, home field size vs. playing style has treated us well in past few years. Another note. Rumour is the '91's (UNT freshmen fall 2009) orals are basically complete, and the talent is equally as impressive as this year's 2008 freshmen. On a roll with the recruiting and talent. Need to win out.
  20. Been away from Board for a while.....self imposed GMG de-tox, Thanks GG for carrying the torch on the updates....Regarding the a few posts in this thread. There was a question about how this class ranks- probably one of the best ever, player for player. They are all well respected club players, all are from nationally ranked club teams. Brooks is leading the area for Girls 5A as of right now in high school season. Saw all of these players play during the recruiting year in local tourneys and leagues, including the Challenge girls from Houston. All are capable of starting, so the depth with returning players is huge, and competition for play should be tough. Got a lot of offense to fill with Slavonik and Hutyra graduating. All recruits are very capable scorers and defensive players, and come from strong team-oriented backgrounds. Question on class recruit ranking- Buzz Soccer (you know how I feel) will post a ranking nationally and by Region. We should rank very high in the region. Lundsford will be back from knee injury this spring, as will Wicker, so defense gets a boost. Also hoping Lackore will be back in August as planned. New development, Juett is scheduled for minor arthro on her knee this week which is a big concern, but is expected to still possibly play this spring if all goes well. Regarding JH, have heard all of that and more...... Team chemistry has also been issue, which does not really have to do with coach per se ....we do need to win the conference AND the tournament this year, anything less with this talent will be underachievement. We need to get beyond settling for being just a conference favorite every year, and begin to be looked upon as a perenial NCAA qualifier, starting this year. Denver or WKU or Muts should not prevail !!
  21. ....waiting to be officially pronounced...........I want to try to stay positive as well, I've allowed myself to drift some and probably lost some credibility as an objective fan. I'm sure the coaches will re-evaluate why we missed the target, and what should be done. Just feel like we could have achieved more..... from my view in this plush armchair. Next year is always a great year!!! So, I'm with ya on that! Gonna have to get with it though and fix the pieces that will bring the conf championship. WKU bringing almost the whole roster back, and Denver is stocked with a lot of young players too, Hemmings should be back, and that Keeper is a monster player. Got to find a way to beat their defense.......in Denver too!
  22. I'd guess slim to none.... we actually had a better case last year I think....this year we just did not show well enough in conference. And, we lost twice to Denver when they were must win games. Also did not win any OOC game ultimately of ay significance except UTEP. Based on the lunacy of some of the bids last year, stranger things have happened, but common sense would suggest otherwise. My opinion.......fire away....
  23. Hmmmm..... . Have to be careful with how, when and what I can say I think my alias in no longer ...an alias... after my last outburst.... The girls really played very hard all week and overcame some tremendous odds in two straight games. It was a remarkable team effort given the last three weeks results. Couple of notes: The two teams that presented the most trouble for us have one thing in common. I spoke to this in the off season on another post and never did follow up on how many teams won conf or made NCAA lat year that had MENS teams on campus, but there are a lot . WKU won conf this year, and DU managed to save the season with a tourney win and NCAA berth. Both teams have mens teams and were very organized and played very fast and physical. I believe that intangible is a very big plus for many ladies teams to have mens teams to push their endurance, physical play, and speed of play. UNT practiced against the UNT mens club team quite a bit last year, but did not do that much (if any) this year I'm told, and I think it showed. A second point. In early 2006 I posted that the loss of Kevin Smith as a special trainer would eventually take its toll. Players have spoken of how they hated his training, but in retro now realize he helped build strong individual skills. This years team lacked some of the attacking skill and defensive discipline and characteristics that Kevin is very good at teaching and SUSTAINING, strong attacking and posession skills and marking skills. Most of the players he influenced are now gone, only a few remained this year, and even less for next year. Not to say that the present staff can't make that happen, but with Kevin it did, and the results showed in team performance and player development. Many of the players trained under him in club ball prior to their days at UNT. Not all would agree with my sentiment, and with Kevin, you either loved him or hated him as a coach, but he has always gotten results. Not sure why he really left, but I hope we can back to that type of hardnosed fundamentals training so we can recapture a championship. Wish someone would see if he'd like to come back as a training instructor part time . We have extremely good talent coming in next year, but we are losing some key players with Championship experience. too Looking forward to finally getting over the hump with Denver, soI hope we can develop a strong team for next year. More to come.....GMG!
  24. Boomer was a very nice touch for such a big game!! Glad to see we were able to find a place for it this time! Good crowd too, tailgate was fun.
