  1. UNT is playing on Sunday on both 13th and 20th.

The Pit is being used for commencement on the 18th and 19th, forcing any home game that weekend to be on the 20th.

My bet would be that the Pit is also being used for some other UNT function on the 12th, hence any home game is pushed to the 13th.

Now why we couldn't trade dates with ULM and FIU (yes, we do play them twice) playing them at their place in Dec and at ours later in the year is a mystery.

  2. Through six games this season, J'mison has only gotten off the bench to play in three games, has only averaged four minutes in those three games, and has only taken two shots, making one basket so far this season.

Included in those six games are losses to Cal State Fullerton, Butler, Long Beach State, and a 47-74 loss to Portland.

UCLA has already signed all-world 6-foot-10 275-pound Josh Smith to take over the starting center position next season.

It's a bad situation for J'mison and it does not appear that it will be getting better.

He's the son of one of our North Texas all-time greats. He came out of high school with legitimate NBA aspirations and it seems like he'll never get a chance to develop his game at UCLA.

He is not playing at UCLA because others are playing better. Despite his HS credentials he won't have a shot at the NBA if he can't beat out his peers at UCLA.

That having been said, he certainly could be a force in the Sun Belt.

  3. If we don't win by 20 I think it should cost JJ his job. This isn't the football team...we have expectations for basketball

Rice beat South Alabama so they may not be that easy. After Boise, we just need a win. Doesn't have to be by 20, and likely won't be. Just win.

  4. If I remember correctly someone questioned how successful UNT has been in recruiting citing a newspaper writer..

In the 2008 recruiting season per Rivals...they had NT tops in the metroplex with 100 points, TCU had 75 and SMU had 80

You like to use Rivals, so let's use Rivals. Using avg stars (to even out the differing number of recruits) Rivals rated our standing in the Sun Belt recruiting classes as follows:

    2007 T6th and 7th

    2008 3rd

    2009 7th (virtual tie for 5th)

And, as TastyGreek pointed out, our 2008 class ratings include highly rated guys who didn't get into school.

Let's use comparison that are statistically comparable.

  5. Colorado is not doing much better and guess what????

Colorado immediately announced that Hawkins will be back. No one is left twisting in the wind. The problem is the lack of decision, and the lack of communication of decision if one has been made.

  6. Really, how about Florida State? Can't that guy make a decision???? Really, Harry, I do understand your frustration with this situation and I definitely share your "pain" with the "hanging decision", but what bad taste???? I know you have been around college football for more than a few years, and I have been around probably longer than you have (only because I have a year or two on you), and this is certainly not the first program to have taken some time to make a decision regarding their head coach. While I sigh at some of the moves UNT makes these days (mainly on the administrative side), I really do not think UNT is alone in taking a few days to make this important decision...or in at least announcing it. Who is to say that RV hasn't already made the decision and related it to TD that he will have another year? They did meet yesterday, right?

I doubt the "taste" of this will linger long in the hearts and minds of the Mean Green faithful.

Geez, Kram, at FSU the guy is 80 years old, has been there forever, and his successor is already on the staff. Surely that situation is unlike ours.

  7. Western Kentucky have fired coach David Elson amid the Hilltoppers' first fully eligible season for Football Bowl Subdivision play, a source told ESPN.com's Pat Forde on Monday.

Western Kentucky fell to 0-9 and 0-5 in the Sun Belt Conference after a 40-20 loss Saturday to Troy.

Elson, 39-41 in seven seasons as the Hilltoppers' coach, was fired Sunday night, the source said, but will finish the season with the team.

A press conference was set for Monday at 2 p.m. ET to announce the move.

according to WKU web site his contract had been extended through 2016. Wonder if that is correct? That is a lot of years to buy out.

  8. Stupid play by our DB? You act like he tackled him or something?

    http://espn.go.com/broadband/espn360/playe...de=&league=

Here's a link to the replay of the game. Click on replay at the top right and scroll down to our game.

The play is at the 3:21 mark, you can fast forward to it. The reciever runs a 12 yard flag. Hill is giving him an 8 yard cushion. They meet at the 25 yard line (8 yards deep) where Aubrey does a swim move and shoves him with his right hand on the break as you see 1,000 times every saturday when a reciever attempts to gain separation from the defender, and Hill stands his ground, stays with him and immediately looks back at the ball and remains looking back at the ball even through Aubrey's jump. If there was holding involved Aubrey would not have gained another 5 yards after his break (contact at the 25 and comes down on the 20). His progress was never close to being impeded. If anything it's incidental contact between the two, nothing more. If that's holding it could be called on nearly every passing attempt. What's even more amazing is Hill never even jumps for the ball because it was so obviously overthrown.

    Horrible, game-changing call.

    Rick

The holding was clear on the TV replay. The call was correct.

  9. That dump seats what....17,000?

Anyway, this sort of surprised me. Earlier this year, San Diego State played there....a non-conference game. I know SDSU isn't the greatest name team...but not bad.

And this week on ESPNU......they host Colorado State.

I'd definitely love a home and home with CSU or SDSU. Both are great road trips.

BTW....the Vandals are 3-1 with wins over Northern Illinois, SDSU and NMSU.

And yes this relates to NT football....because it shows that if they can get teams like this to their craphole....we ought to get some decent games in Denton......even if our place seats 28,000.

Along those same lines: Troy just announced a home and home w Mississippi State. Previously Troy had home-and-homes with Missouri and Oklahoma State. Yes, Virginia, there is a santa claus, and you can get home-and-home series with schools from automatic qualifier conferences.

  10. Take a look at this year's recruiting class for UT:

    http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/result.asp

That's two 4* running backs and another 3* in addition to Newton. Add these guys to a backfield that already includes Foswhitt Whitaker and Cody Johnson (two 4* from last recruiting class), a 3* and a 4* from the '06 class and Chris Ogbonnaya who will be a senior.

Tell me, again, why kids enjoy sitting in these log jams at schools like UT.

easy. They may have a chance to play for a national championship. And when being recruited, none knew they would not start. But what competitor would not risk a lot to play for a national championship?

  11. Smut voted against us for SWC admission and against us for CUSA admission.... Smut is the

Not so, our being admitted to SWC never came to a vote, was never even on the agenda. SMU may not have wanted us, Arkansas did not want another Texas state school, but the big thing is we had no sponsor.

As to CUSA, the next choice after UTEP was .... none. Stay at eleven. SMU may not have wanted us, but they had little influence, and no one wanted us.

  13. Iasked this question a fewweeks ago, and maybe missed it.

Can anybody tell me if we are going tokeep the Deck when the new stadium is built? I spend alot of time down there during pre-game, 1st qtr, 2nd qtr, half time....sometimes, the whole game!!!

Me, too. But my understanding is, no. I got that understanding from the fund raisers working for athletics, though they tried to pussy-foot around the quesiton.

My question to you is: why ask a question like that here, why not ask the ADs office?

  14. Morgan showed up at UCLA and they didn't really need a player of his size for their system. Morgan was used sparingly. He was told that he would now need to be much lighter and quicker in order to get significant playing time.

Time will tell, he's been everything he was billed to be, he has done everything he's been asked to do, but I see this potential NBA talent as not getting a chance to develop because of Coach Howland's system.

It is not correct to believe that a potential NBA talent will not get a chance to develop because of Howland's system; UCLA center Kevin Love was 6-10 255 and was 5th player taken in the 2008 NBA draft. In fact Howland's previous HC job was at Pitt and he brought Big East style physical basketball to UCLA. A good big should thrive under Howland.

Howland is a great coach who is frequently in the final four (he has taken teams from three schools to the Final Four) and has a good chance of getting there again this season. If Morgan is not getting playing time, it is likely because others are playing better. Not because of Howland's sytem.

Quickness could be the real issue. If he was told to lose weight, possibility it was to enable him to increase his quickness.

Not to say he wouldn't be a great add for UNT if we could get him. But he hasn't left UCLA yet.
