Buffalo Bayou Brewing's "1836" Copper Ale is one of my favorite Texas craft beers, as of late.
If you're ever in Houston, the Karbach Brewery (and now restaurant) is a great place to spend some time.

I applaud Ryan for at least sticking up for his hometown. Everyone I know from Houston trashes it way more than I do. I actually find myself defending it to them saying things like "hey, but at least its close to the ocean right little buddy?"
Which is clearly a limited sample size.
There's a lot to love about Houston. But it's certainly easier to trash a place than it is to spend any significant time in it. Having spent a lot of time in both Houston and Dallas (and Austin and Nashville -- and a handful of other cities) you learn that most places are the same in that you can find what you dig almost anywhere.
Like the beer, there's not that much that's noticeably different between Houston and Dallas -- if you know where to go to find it.
But it's sure fun to mock and ridicule things we don't know or understand, isn't it?

Good news for River U - San Marcos. Now all the kids that wanted to go to UT will at least get a chance to root for their team inside the stadium.

I don't know why it is, but I've often wondered the same. Texas State had a DB taken in the third round and a LB taken in the fifth. At some point, these upstarts are going to start laughing at us referring to them as peer institutions.

3.) The Oilers were trash with a terrible owner that the city willingly let go. Fortunately we traded up. If we really want to talk about how great the Oilers were in the 60s, then the Browns would be the NFL's best franchise.
You should be ashamed of yourself.

I'm gonna be honest -- I'm confused.

It's a nice story, but the top recruits in the state are still going to Texas and Texas A&M. So while it's been impressive to watch TCU and Baylor do what they've done "with less," the idea that there's been a changing of the guard is little more than fantasy from the fans of private programs that have been the beneficiary of dumpster fire in Austin and a conference change in College Station. In other words, everything fell into place at the perfect time for both programs. And there's nothing wrong with that, at all. Briles turned UH back into a winner, did the same for Baylor. Patterson is, in my opinion, the best coach in Texas.

"UNT believes it is closer to reaching that goal, thanks largely to a renewed commitment."
That's all it took? Did we take 2014 off because we'd enjoyed "so much" success in 2013?
I sincerely hope McNulty comes out balling like a senior who knows exactly what he's doing.

I thought it was stunningly honest that Smatresk revealed what windows the university will always use as tools to get students here...music, lectures, art, and cheap place to hangout because its inexpensive here. Didn't even consider using the word athletics, much less football or basketball, at all. Of course, if he had, it would've contradicted the message the BOR and administration want him to send out.
Those are your windows to UNT, folks.
I think you go with your strengths, something that sets you apart when you're making a sales pitch. You don't hang your hat on something almost every other major public school in the state does better.
We dominate in art, music, and the inexpensive art of hanging out. Nothing wrong with bragging about that.
These are non-conventional methods of doing things that are honestly refreshing. Don't think we need to over-analyze it.

Yes but if he posted everything in Haiku or diverted all threads to silly d*ck jokes or movie references, then his postings would be golden.
Finally, someone who "gets" the internet.

I'm moving to Houston for a full time job after graduation.
Hey, we're glad to have you. Hope you enjoy making a lot of money and eating really good food. If not, there's always Austin.

If it makes anyone feel any better, they listed it as North Texas University on her website. So we should be good.

So I'm a Dynamo fan. Great game atmosphere. And obviously a big fan of the USMNT.
As for the other major leagues, I favor Tottenham (a recent development based on a rigorous selection process) and FC Barcelona.

None of this bothers me. If people want to protest, great. If people want to celebrate, great.
I don't agree with everything Abbott says or believes. I don't disagree with everything Abbott says or believes, either. We fundamentally disagree on a couple big issues, but hey -- that's life.
I do think it's good to have someone like the governor of the state on campus. Irrespective of one's political opinions or leanings, the office -- much like that of the president -- deserves respect.
I am not sure when we got to a point as a society where we have to agree with everything someone says to listen to anything they say, but it's truly exhausting.

Hard to make throws when you are only allowed to throw the ball when the defense knows it's coming.
Better offensive balance in 2014 would have led to at least 2 more wins (UTSA and Tulane) and very possibly 3. When everyone in the stadium knows what you are going to do on just about every play, that's a problem. It was a huge one in these games.
Almost 70% running on first down. Throw in bubble screens and other routes under 10 yards and you would easily have over 95% of the first down offense in 2014.
That's not balanced and not an effect way to make your offense successful.
All fair points. But those three games weren't DT's best. In fact, two of them were much his worst of 2014 not named Georgia. But it's really a mix of many factors in most losses.
Anyways, I like this thing we've got going. Should we make it Facebook official?
-
To be fair, if we were more aggressive on offense earlier in the Ohio, Tulane, and UTSA game, we could have been 12-1 and nationally ranked.
True. But that would have required the QB play to be up to par. Which it wasn't. Which is UNT's problem going on ______ years.

i wonder how deep they will list the QB position
1. McNulty
2. Greer
3. Williams
4. Means
5. Ball Boy
6. Water Boy
7. Towel Boy
9. Friend of McCarney's unborn child
I'd like to go ahead and throw my name in that pot. Not very fast, but do have pretty below-average arm strength.

Smith's best chance will be once we get into conference play. This is McNulty's job to lose.
Edit: crossed wires in my brain, disregard first statement.
Even if McNulty has a decent year, we're still back to Square One in 2016.
-
So you're proud of losing as long as it's close? Wow, this says a lot about this program which is unfortunate.
You're back! Hello beautiful!
-
NT has been it's own worst enemy for many decades now.
This. All day, this.
-
I don't think there's any question who the QB will be.
Excited to hear the defense is playing well. Hope that's the anchor of the 2015 team.

I think about all of this so much it's becoming increasingly more difficult to even get out of bed in the morning.

party at my place 10/22/16!!!
Call me Jackson 5, 'cause I'll be there. (I know, not my best effort.)

For those that may care or want to argue the value here is the math.
Interesting stuff. Thank you.

An entirely subjective statement, of course. But I don't have a financial interest in the success of either. Pumpkinator is great. As are the BB and DR series. In fact, there's a lot of great beer, food, and culture in this city. I really think you'll enjoy digging into it.
Karbach is just a really cool hang on a Saturday afternoon and they've got a great new space opening which will include a restaurant, tasting room, etc. Had several friends in for a bachelor party last month and they all really enjoyed it. I just prefer their beer. But that doesn't take anything away from Saint Arnold, of course. It's a big city; there's room for everyone. Hell, my recommendation is to experience both if you're visiting and you've experienced neither. Saint Arnold is an important part of Houston's beer scene -- and the craft brewing scene in general. I hope it is a great experience for you. Aside from beer, they're very supportive of the community in general, including providing space for many charity functions I've been a part of. Which as you referenced, is made better by having the indoor great room.
I've spent several years here. I actually live here on purpose. We've had many opportunities to live elsewhere -- in more "desirable" locations -- but we like it here. So I'm always glad to provide you (or anyone else) a list of off-the-beaten-path, must-dos in Houston -- the wheres and whys of how we came to love this town.
Lastly, I don't really care how many championships a city has. If I did, I'd move to Boston. I'm interested in the pulse, the vibe, and the opportunity a place has to offer. Right now, Houston's got all of it in spades.
To each his own.
