  1. So, if all the speculation around here comes true, we could lose DD and RF in one offseason?

I know the Hallelujah chorus would begin for some of you but I just hope the old "careful what you wish for" adage doesn't start echoing around Denton.  You may not like one/both of them but at a time when recruiting and continuity are at a premium this would be a heavy pill to swallow.

Agreed. While I have been a proponent for us moving forward without DD, there is some anxiety in who we could bring in. That is why I have said that for us to jump to the next level, the university has to be willing to go for it and bring in the right person, even if it costs a little more, otherwise this is a waste of time. With DD, at least we know what we get.

Its definately a roll of the dice, but sometimes teams come up big, and I think we could. We have created an environment where someone could really thrive.

Of course, there are teams you could point out that support and contradict this. Syracuse, Nebraska, A&M etc... they are probably scratching heads right now. Texas, UTEP, OU, TCU, etc have done well since hiring their new coaches.

How bout bringing in ole Rick Neuheisel? haha, wouldn't that be fun... what is it they say, any PR is good PR?

  2. We had our dream schedule this year and blew it.  My hope for next sesason is that we have 17 or 18 returning starters.

    Rick

Well I agree with you here, but in all fairness we have a pretty good schedule next year as well. We should get the Middle-of-Tennessee-Slack-Jaws at home, then we also play Tulsa, SMU and La Tech in our OOC. Plus we get to go hang out in Austin for our opener, and I will take that over Baton Rouge, Hell any day.

  3. Couple things:

    Florida is in the SEC.

Conference officials dont read these boards, and if they do, they are not considered valuable research tools for deciding whether or not to invite a school to said conference.

Lifer's post = game...set...match. End of thread, as it invalidates the rest of the original topic posters' argument by pointing out the contradiction and hypocrisy.

Denver has great point: this is tame compared to the flack he would be catching at a more "visible" program.

People on this board arent BS, however a case could be made for people posting comments that say they are... when someone has a differing opinion from yourself in life, do you always resort to, "well you are a BS salesman/doctor/teacher/yadda yadda"?

Oh, and can something really "halfway smell like urine"?

  4. I for one would like to see State get a chance.  If not them then ULL.

whichever scenario creates a big tie, without anyone going to a bowl game. Thats what I want. Selfish? Certainly.

If someone HAS to win it, I imagine it would be fun for ULL to play at home and get smoked by U of H.

I just want us to win out. The spoiler role is all we have to play for... well that and to try to avoid going 0-5 at home.

  5. I, along with everyone else, agree with you onthe level of competition.  However, we still have either a RS & True Frosh for a QB and not many of these excel their first year.

The better QB's that we have had, in the past, started excelling in the Sophmore years......

I wasnt disagreeing with your post, or really anyone's for that matter... I was just playing devil's advocate with untgirls post.

Id like to see all the freshmen get some time these last 2 games. Lets see what we really have to work with! I think we have a much better team (talent-wise) than our record shows

oh, and have a good day as well!

  6. yes and what exactly did our Starting RS Freshman do against this juggernaught??

I think if you re-read my post, you will see that I didnt say Meager was better or worse.

I was under the impression Meager got hurt in the game, perhaps I was mistaken. We didnt get the game on ABC here in Houston, so I was unable to watch it. wink.gif

I was encouraged to hear the way Phillips came in to the game and took control of the team--- that is something that has been missing. Its been my complaint of Meager thus far, he never looks like a leader out there, and that is very important in CFB. You have to be able to inspire your teammates.

Again, not saying Phillips couldnt be the guy, rather the level of competition should be considered in conjunction with the performance.

  7. Matt Phillips is a TRUE freshman who nearly led the team to a comeback against FAU, scoring 17 points in ONE QUARTER! So I guess you could say we do have a freshman QB who can be a field general. The problem is, he's not starting.

Yes, but it is equally important to realize we were playing a horrible team. Not saying he isnt a talent, and shouldnt be looked at futher and Im not saying he is or isnt better than Meager, but before we jump on the Phillips bus, lets realize this was against a 1 loss celler-dweller, not LSU.

  8. Looks like weather should be beautiful Saturday (sunny, high of 67), which should make for some good tailgating (with the other 12 people at the game--haha, jokes)...ready for some good eating and some, well...football!

Also, looks like rain for tuesday in Denton.. any chance that lifts a burn ban? Im not an expert on the ways of the burn ban, but it sure would be nice to have a fire, because lets face it, fire is fun.

  9. If ULM loses at North Texas on Saturday and then beats UL, and ASU loses at North Texas on Nov. 26, ULM would win the league title but would not be bowl eligible with six wins. Either three or four teams would be tied with 4-3 marks, but only ASU and Middle Tennessee could be picked for the bowl (and then, only if ASU beats Army or MTSU beats North Carolina State in non-league games this weekend).

So the sunbelt title still goes through denton, even though we arent in the race! If we win out, nobody goes bowling? How bad is that for the conference if that happens? But I hope we do win out. Not for the good of the conference, for our players. And we can still be the only Sun Belt team to make it to the NO Bowl... laugh.gif

Sad, sad state of affairs in Sun Belt hell...

  10. If Vince somehow wins Heisman, I will scoff at the credibility of the trophy.

Oh jeez, Im sure they will be crushed to hear that in New York. biggrin.gif

If you look at the teams objectively, you might see there are three shoo-ins for the trophy, and at least 5 worthy of the trophy. But unfortunately (for the USC bandwagoners), if VY plays the way he has the last few games against A&M, it will be his to lose.

I also dont understand where all the "overrated" hype comes from... did anyone see what they did last week to the #1 rush defense? 52-0 at the half? 336 rushing yards. You are right, this team is trash.

"there is no way UT beats _____" is quickly becoming one the funniest comments on the board about the longhorns. Just insert Ohio State, Michigan, USC...etc and you can join the club! I think the argument could be made for both teams. Both have had shaky games, both have won great games.

But maybe I should go buy a crystal ball so I can see what you guys see, as USC and Texas have yet to play---or even get into the title game!

  11. Interesting take:

North Texas is a victim of their own success. After a while the lustyer wore off a program playing in the Sun Belt. The caviat on North Texas was yeah they won four conference championships but they play nobody. North Texas is a first class program, but the Sun Belt is not a first class conference. Even if your winning recruiting becomes difficult. Recruits after while would rather play in a better conference than against glorified 1-aa schools. No one is excited by the prospect of getting to play la-la, la-m, Middle tenn fau or fiu. Plus there is absolutely no television exposure in the belt. North Texas's fall was inevitable because of the shape of the belt./ However with a new stadium and athletic village on the way UNT will be able to leave the belt. There is nothing other than the Sun Belt stopping UNT from being a perenial top twenty five team. I think the same argument can be made for troy both schools deserve better.
  12. Its amazing how much energy people on this board spend hating another

texas team... one that we dont even compete for recruits with as they are on a whole different level. The team we actually do compete with for recruits is just down the street and is 9-1 in a their new conference... I would think that would garner more attention than the longhorns... but whatever. Nobody knows what will happen in the NC game, but we will find out and I for one look forward to it... and you will never see me rooting for a professional team in SoCal over any Texas team

  13. If there is a decision to be made `C-USA will not make the decision based on this years football performance (UTEP’s football past should settle this debate).

    Ding Ding Ding

(and they fact that since there already in Ruston many of the players might try transferring to one of the other Louisiana schools)

Agree with you up to here... I would think Tulane students would transfer to places like Rice and SMU

  14. Also in DMN is a comment that Tulane is struggling with tremendous debt and is again considering dropping football. Ever thought about what this season has actually cost us -- just a bid to CUSA which will now take LA Tech ASAP when we had wooed CUSA with facilities and now support. Now after this garbage season which is not and never has been a rebuilding season we are one upped by a backwoods nothing LA school for what should be OUR spot in CUSA!! Thank you DD as in Animal House " Thank you sir may we have another" kick in the rear that is!!

Is it possible that might be a bit of an overreaction? I understand the feeling, but I seriously doubt they look at one bad year (where at least 2 games could have gone either way, but didnt-- not an excuse for our poor showing, but even...) and then say, "well La Tech has money problems and crappy facilities, but they beat NT, so lets get them on in here and have em join our conference"... to me that wouldnt make sense

  15. I don't know how to do it, but I would like to see a poll as to the likelyhood of RF being the OC at North Texas next season.  I for one don't see him back.

Well placing his job as OC aside, I cant believe he is still here after acting a fool at the football game. (sorry, I live in Houston now, we say things like "act a fool" which translates loosely to "being a jacka$$")
