  1. In the highlight tape he looks like he has great instincts and throws a great deep ball. His speed is not as good as I had thought based on the comments about dual threat on this board. Most of his runs everyone just seems to be jogging, even the defense.

to me Vince Young looked like he was always jogging too. Maybe that's how really tall athletes look like when they run...I'm short, round, and nonathletic so I can't speak from experience.

  2. People talk about how the Dickey years failed to accomplish anything. However the official attendance of the 2000 season was ~12k, and that was inflated by about ~2k. Even after the end of the bowl runs our actual crowds were over the 15k cutoff that was being bandied about by the NCAA. Doesn't sound like much, but that's a 50% increase.

Dodge brought an initial boost, but then a collapse. I was surprised it never feel to 2000 levels. Mac has brought the averages up again. If he can string together 3 winning seasons I think the new average raises to 25k even in not great seasons.

I like this post. When I was a freshman at UNT in 96, I actually laughed when my BLAW professor asked if any of us went to the game. On campus I mostly saw other schools hats and shirts being worn. The campus bookstore had like 3 shirts available for sale. I never once even thought of going to a football game...in fact, the only one I went to as a student was the TCU game, which we lost but it was a decent crowd. I didn't know a single player on the team or who the coach was. I realize this was my own mindset at the time. It wasn't until graduation that I became a die hard fan. My wife and I (and now kids) haven't missed more than a couple of home games since then and have had season tickets every year. We are Mean Green crazy now. I drove through campus last week and saw 95% mean green gear...and didn't see any other schools attire. We have come a long way from the depths of hell...and it will continue to get better and better.

  3. It's hard to tell how our offense will shape up this year. Greer will only be starting his 3rd D1 college game of his life on Thursday so I want to give the kid some slack. He's going to get more and more comfortable as the year goes on. We just need him to be efficient and protect the ball...nothing more, nothing less...this will give him time to develop his game at this level. Our defense and special teams are only going to get better and they are damn good now. Fun times are ahead for us this season. Go Mean Green!!

  5. Chizik at Iowa State, Chizik at Auburn.

It's harder to win at some schools. McCarney pulled off a Snyder/K-State-like turnaround at Iowa State. Both were very crappy jobs and programs in the Big 8, the worst at the time.

McCarney did a great job at Iowa State, and he's doing a great job here.

Our misfortune is history. Money has taken over to the nth degree in college athletics. We were rule-followers; good guys. The thieving entities are now in control of the whole thing. They don't want any football versions of Butler or Gonzaga stealing their thunder - and, dollars - during the postseason.

I'm thankful for McCartney. Again, having lived through I-AA football during my time at UNT, I'm thankful for what we have now.

Looking forward to McCarney adding another bowl win to his record at the end of this season.

A journey of a thousand miles begins when the alarm clock goes off early, you get out of bed, pee, shower, shave, dress, eat a bowl if figgy oatmeal, and begin foot stepping in the direction of the journey's end.

    I like oatmeal.
