  1. Rick has done a tremendous job at UNT. When I was a student, it was not normal to want to go to a football game or attend any athletic event. Now, the student turnout is far greater and will continue to improve. There is a connection now with the university and the athletic program and this too will continue to grow. Thanks Rick for your vision and efforts!!!

  2. As the first half was ending I was standing under the stands waiting to escort my kid on the field for the Jr. Mean Green Club stuff. It was obvious from the players faces that they had no life. They were completely defeated and it's easy to understand why after the results of the first half. I do remember one of the only players to acknowledge the parents and the kids cheering them on was Riley. That was nice to see.

When Coach Dodge walked by I commented to my friend that I had never seen a man look so mad. That too was actually encouraging and the 2nd half was played better. I'm not sure if we were going against Tulsa's 2nd or 3rd string players, but our production was much better. He must have said something to the players to fire them up.

October 4th will be here before you know it and another chance to tailgate and cheer on the Mean Green at home. We've gotta stick with our team through the good and the bad.

  3. Due to fatherly duties and soccer games I can't partake in tailgating until about 3:30...although I have strongly pondered what it would be like to get the grill fired up and the beer flowing at my 4 year old's soccer game...

    arrive at 3:30

    set-up tent and grill

    drink

grill wings or ribs or Muenster sausage

eat until I need to change into elastic shorts

stumble into the game...even though we have season tickets, we sit on student side...it's way more energetic!!

    leave game happy with win

    listen to post game show

drink a lot of Pepto before bed

    passout

  4. Hello...

Wayward Tulsa fan here wondering how early we need to show up to get a tailgating spot in the Orange lot? 10am? 11am? Also any of you that want to guzzle down a delicious Old Style stop by! We'll be the loud ones who have killed about 3 dirty thirties by noon.

Old Style is the bomb!...best and one of the cheapest beers I remember from my trip to Chicago. I'll be in the Blue Lot with a flagpole, 3X5 Mean Green Flag and a Mean Green football on top of the flagpole. I'll grill some extra wings to pay for the Old Style... :P

  5. OK, I know we discussed this a bit recently, but I may now be leaning towrd the camp that thinks the DMN is intentionally snubbing UNT. The coverage of our game with K-St. this morning was on page 7CC of the sports section Below the fold and UNDER three articles on high school football! It was just a line by Vito out of his blog I think. Even Texas State made the college football pages on page 5CC.

This is just not right. But, UNT did lose by a wide margin...maybe we are lucky the story was buried. No, this is simply a real slight...win-lose-draw UNT is a LARGE Metroplex University with many many alums in the DMN readership area. It is areal shame. But, does anyone think anyone of any authority from the University and Athletic Dept. will call the DMN and ask "What's Up" with the lame coverage? Why does UNT get only stuff by Vito from the Record-Chronicle? I know Belo owns both papers and I know the readership of both is in decline, and I know the papers are cutting staff, but this is a bit much.

Anyone else notice the slight this morning????? Just wondering.

Ya, I logged in this morning to post about the same message. Yes, we struggled yesterday greatly in many areas, but our coverage should not be in the high school section in my opinion. This kind of placement and coverage only fuels the negative perception of many fair weather fans and non-supporters of UNT. Once again our program must climb out of this perception and win some games. I have to admit that sometimes it's hard to be an all-weather fan when you watch the team you love struggle...but it's so worth it. I'd rather live and die by each play and be on the edge of my seat than take the easy road and cheer for a team that is expected to win every game. It's not that I don't want the Mean Green to win, because I absolutely do...sticking with them through the tough times makes it so worth it when they turn this program around. Next week's game is obviously an important game to turn the momentum around and for our team to improve. Let's all do our part and be there and be on the edge of our seats!!! See you there.

we usually have a big group tailgating. I have a black F-150 with a 3'X5' Mean Green flag with a football on top of the flag pole. We are in the blue lot...hope to see you at the Tulsa game!!!

  7. A pair of season tickets, to show how much the team means to you and to let her know you're not entirely wasting your time by frequenting this board (you'll be keeping up with the latest news and info about the team), and verifying it's accuracy by attending the games. ;)

I know a stretch, but it might work.

we already have season tickets and the Mean Green Club. She has her own Sports Illustrated subscription and is just as big of a fan of the Mean Green. This site is very addictive. I love it!

...here's me not working again to write this...

  9. new member...1st post...here goes

I can't stop thinking about the comments that Todd Dodge made on his show Monday night. He said that in 4 losses they had last year the games came down to 7 possessions. Considering the tough season our defense had, this is pretty encouraging to me. It's kinda like the Rangers and pitching...if they would just not give up that big inning, their record would be a lot better. They have the offense to win and I believe the Mean Green do too. Our defense needs only a few more small wins during a game and our record could be a lot better than 2-10. That along with a consistant kicking game which we should hopefully have this year. I'm excited about the season and the experience we gained on both sides of the ball...can't wait to listen to the game on Saturday!!
