  1. We had this thread last year and here were the problems;

    1. We the GMG message board dorks can't make the school do anything, so it's an unofficial event.

    2. The cost to enter a float was close to $1000

    3. We the GMB message board dorks don't actually do anything other than bitch.

My offer still stand to pitch in $100 and help build a float.

  2. Not sure I would not have included Louisville. They joined the big boys about ten years ago when they got in the Big East.

I wouldn't have included 2/3rds of the list.

There's a pretty big difference between 4/5 (80%) and 2/3 (66%) which a lot of that list was.

2 out of 3 years is doable and should be our goal. My expectations are 1 out 3 years because it's realustic and achievable.

But as much fun as debating statistics with is, the question remains ...

What are your expectations for the program?

  3. There are several G5's that have turned their programs into consistent winners.

This is a myth. There are a couple of outliers like Boise that can reload, but that's the exception.

Southern Miss used to be one of those re-load teams. What mid-major has gone to a bowl 9 out of 10 seasons? How about 4 out of 5 seasons?

These consistent winners might make it to a bowl 2 out of 3 seasons, but weren't not there yet. Which is why I expect 1 bowl every 3 seasons.

  4. Sometimes we're a tough team to root for, but overall we're headed in the right direction.

The Athletic Program is accomplishing its goals...

    • Paid the note on Fouts
    • Completed Sports Master Plan
    • Started the athletic campus
    • Built the new Stadium
    • Baseball

The problem is that the slow growth model is slow.

This season confirmed what we already knew, you can't just re-load at UNT. You can't really re-load at any mid-major school.

The challenge now is to not slip up with a rebuilding season on its way.

All I really expect is that the team make it to a bowl once out of every three years.

  5. I'm convinced now, more than ever, that we are never going to be a consistent winner here. Everything was lined up to keep the momentum going from last year's great season, which is now

looking like a fluke now. I thought we'd see a big pickup in recruiting and we would see us challenge Texas in our body bag game. I thought we would pound thru the rest of our schedule and finish around 8-4 or better. Instead, we beat the absolute worst FBS and FCS programs in the country and that will be it. We hire an experienced college coach, build a brand new stadium, join a conference with teams that people have actually heard of, and finally turn I a great winning season--only to see us go back to looking like Dodge is coaching us at Fouts against some SBC spare.

I'm convinced now, more than ever, that we cannot build a winner here. We will never be the team I dreamed we were gonna be. We are just always going to be that Liberal Arts and Music school that started as a Teachers College. I'm sorry for this negative rant, but I'm just beaten right now. Never imagined we would get clubbed at home by USM this year. Rice is going to prison ####us next week--they will duplicate the last visit we had to their stadium.

You had sugar plum fantasies about a team that didn't have a quarterback and now the guy is falling. Grow up, and stop making rape jokes.

  6. Why is this thread still going?

There are several new marketing efforts underway; Social media, Discover Denton, Game Day DTCA, Game Day Shuttle.

There's is clearly a new marketing strategy. I'm sorry if your not the demographic they are going after.

We are complaining jus to complain, because it was loss.

  7. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/11489258/ncaa-drops-postseason-ban-penn-state-nittany-lions

I think the NCAA lifted Penn State's post-season ban early because the Big Ten is at risk of not filling all its bowl slots. The Big Ten will not have a team in the Playoff and won't have a team at the Rose Bowl.

They probably would have lifted the bowl ban at the same season they restored the scholarships, but they had to do something about this season.

  8. I'm pissed because my son plays in the Denton Youth Football League. .. Half the kids couldn't see. Many parents came to the game expecting to see their little ones on the field.

Are you sure they weren't on the field? It sure looked like we were playing a youth football team from University Park.

  9. I only got a beer when I walked in before kick off. There was no one in line. Concessions for me where great as usual. I'm guessing lines are so long because you must

be 18 to serve alcohol. Since so many high schools use concessions as funds raisers the kids cannot serve you beer. So, fewer concessions can serve the tasty

    beverage.

No, the lines were long because demand was high and they only sold at a few concessions stand. And I did see any kids working at the beer concessions on my 3 trips to get beer.

  10. Great win.

But I must go on a rant about marketing and promotions. It should come as no surprise that attendance was this low. Did anybody see any creative ideas from the AD to sell this game? Anybody?

Yep, ton of social media in the last 48 hours. Mean Green Sports and the new Discover Denton campaign. Oh yeah, they also had the DCTA promotion, the new game day shuttle, and the park at the square program.
