  1. RV really did a good job of setting up the OOC schedule for the next few seasons.

10 year, home-at-home deal with SMU.  6 year, home-at-home deal with Army.  6 years of 1 payday game & 1 fcs game.

As far as rivalries go I think it's pretty clear; CUSA West + SMU + Army.

  2. One, how did this thread get this far without something saying...The Big 12.

Two, why we having this conversation?  Any credible news source predicting another round of conference realignment?

The NCAA voted to allow the conferences to hold a conference championship game without 12 teams, to put an end to conference realignment.

So question because I don't really follow high school or recruiting and I honestly don't know.

How well does the uber well funded high school athlete in an elite (cough..recruited semi-pro...cough) program like Allen tend to perform in college?

Money impacts high school in the following ways:

    1. Better Coaching

    2. More Coaching (camps)

    3. More opportunities

    Basically the 10,000 hours theory.

  4. Can we just name names.  This whole thread is about "people" who are saying negative things about the bowl.  This whole thread is pre-emptive argument, but where are all these negative threads?    Can the Jr. Moderator from New York please publish the list of unpatriotic fans.

  5. Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl: Army vs. North Texas
(12 p.m., ESPN, Cotton Bowl, Dallas, Texas)
What's exciting? Army is in its first bowl game since 2010. What's not so exciting? These teams played Oct. 22, a 17-point North Texas victory. It will be closer this time around, but the Mean Green continue the success of 5-7 teams in bowl games. North Texas 28, Army 22.

I have read a couple of posts from fans disappointed about playing Army in the bowl game.  Instead of slamming you as a disloyal, out of touch fan, I would like to take a shot at reason:

    - Bowl attendance = program power.  Last years HOD bowl brought in 20,229.  Our last game there we brought 40K and they were all ours.  That was a powerful showing for us and likely the main reason we got invited back again at 5-7.  Another good bowl showing will really make a statement that could help us infinitely in the future.

    - This is only the 9th bowl game in the history of the North Texas football program, a history which goes back to 1913.  If you care about the program you certainly want to be able to say you were able to attend when they played in a bowl.

    - Recruiting -- we will most certainly have some key DFW area recruits at this game and a good crowd will help us in regards to landing them.

    - City of Dallas -- we are trying to build ties into the city, and having another good crowd at the Cotton Bowl venue and Fair Park will only build on that.

    - Seth Littrell is only the 2nd UNT coach in all time to have a bowl team in his 1st season as coach.  The last one was Odus Mitchell.  We need to show him our support as he is only going to continue to build this team into the program we have hoped for.

    - It's a cheap date!  Most fans have to get hotel, flights etc to follow their teams to bowl games.  This is a game you can easily drive to if you live in the area.

These are just some of the reasons and I am sure there are many more.

    GMG

All good points, which I agree with, but equally valid points include...

There are too many bowls, 5-7 teams shouldn't go bowling, bowl games shouldn't be rematches, ticket prices are a bit out of market for this game.

If we play Army in the HOD the Cotton Bowl won't look empty.

We know we will bring 30K or better, and Army will certainly draw a good bowl crowd. Navy brought the bulk of the crowd to their 2013 Armed Forces Bowl against MTSU. They had a crowd of 39,246. So, the academies get bowl support. The attendance record for the HOD is 48,313, held by the 2013 game featuring Purdue and OK State. I believe a North Texas/Army rematch will break that record, and that is why I think we are getting this bowl. I know fans of other C-USA programs are mad we seem to be headed to the HOD, but the bowl needs to make money too. Last season, Southern Miss and Washington barely draw 20K.

It would be awesome to have 50k at the bowl game, but I don't think its going to happen.  New Year's Day Bowl vs Tuesday after Christmas.  Should still be a good crowd.
