  1. No there wasn't. I drove to Denton this morning and donated money towards the hurricane relief. I brought my daughter along so she could get some autographs and photos taken with the players.

There was no meet and greet. The coaches told them " freshmen stay and load the truck, everyone else can leave".

I was disappointed but not surprised. Unless they're trapped like rats in the corner, the North Texas football team NEVER does anything that shows appreciation to the people that support them.

    Do you want proof?

    Watch this weekend.

Hundreds of North Texas fans will spend 20+ hours driving round-trip and hundreds of dollars each to travel to support the Mean Green against Middle Tennessee. After the game, win or lose, the North Texas football team will head directly to the locker room and NEVER make any effort to acknowledge those fans. This would NEVER happen at other schools but has become the expected norm at North Texas.

I blame that on DD. He directs the troops as needed, and fans to him are a second thought, if a thought at all. dry.gif

  2. Benson also added that there are no current plans to add a Central Time Zone member as a travel partner for Tech. North Texas declined an invitation to join the league last year.

sad.gif I would have preferred the WAC with La Tech and NMSU, only until a CUSA spot opened. I know, I know about the costs, but games with Fresno, Boise, and Hawaii and more appealing to the general fan than what we have now. It is a step up even if it's about to fall apart.

  3. but could manage just 7,713 folks in Shreveport's Independence Stadium for a WAC "home" game against Tulsa.

That ain't gettin' it done, Tech fans, and the appalling turnout prompted Tech officials to eliminate Shreveport as a host site for a game on the 2005 schedule.

Maybe the North Texas game was originally scheduled for SHV?

  4. Considering the majority of black football players at the collegiate level, then there is something very wrong about having black head coaches make up only 2.6% of D1-A head coaches. You can't honestly believe that of the 117 head coaching jobs in D1-A football, that black coaches were the best candidates for only 3 of those jobs. To think that is so narrow minded I really don't know how to respond to it.

First, why aren't there more white college football players? Oh, the best players get the spots? I see, that's how it works. Is that fair?

Now let's consider that as mentioned in the NY Times article that there are not that many black assistant coaches by number but it is increasing. For a 1-A job opening there may be 100+ applicants of which maybe 2.6 % of applicants are black. Until the total of applicants with experience comes up the line then the head coaching percentages will stay about the same. It has nothing to do with bias, it's numbers and experience and not enough yet.

  5. It's a shame and embarrasing the lack of minority coaches and opportunities in D-1 college football.  3 out of 117 that is disgraceful.

Why? I mean really, what percentage is acceptable? 20%, 36%, 42.8%? What about percentages of Hispanic coaches, or Catholics, or Republican coaches? We have too many 1-A coaches raised in Texas! The selections must always be made on the best candidate available, period.

  6. And I did not "denegrate" the support of football fans, because there are football fans who support other NT sports. I denigrated the people that claim to be great supporters of NT athletics, yet who only support football.

You denigrate anyone who doesn't believe what you do about DD, NT basketball, NT football, or whatever the subject. This whole thread got blown up because of you not liking someone's reference comparing JJ and DD's appreciation of fans. That is an OK thread on a basketball board. Who made you the post czar?

  7. Also, a special thanks goes out to Baby Arm for starting this here on the basketball board. We know you don't care about basketball, so please don't come here and start this kind of crap here. I expect to see that nonsense when I go to the football board, but not when I come to the basketball board.

If you don't like our opinions, DONT READ THEM! The fact remains despite all your drivel that JJ knows how to complement fans and DD knows how to turn them off. That is relative to this forum even if you do not like it. Are you 12 or 14?

  8. Huh? I go to the basketball games. In fact, I haven't missed a men's game this year and did not miss any last season. How many BB games have you made this year?

Not you. The reference was about "a UNT coach that actually appreciates the fans?". DD would get more fan love if just acknowledged them instead of talking like we are bad cousins.

  9. I know that, I'm just trying to figure out what it has to do with TheColonyEagle's analysis of the game.

A 31 point loss to Colorado and everyone is making out like we won the game? It was still a loss, a HUGE loss, by more than the point spread! Come up with all the excuses you want why it was better, it wasn't. You can put a dress on a skunk, but it is still a skunk!

    30-44 overall record

    7-33 OOC record
