Smuu plays at Tech tonight at 8pm on Ch.52.
-
Very good point, many don't appreciate what we have at UNT.
-
I could try to list it all but GrayEagle had a good start on it >>
1. Two Sun Belt football championships and a second bowl game after a drought of 42 years.
2. EVERY sport has improved since RV arrived on the scene. Most men's basketball wins in 10 years and most women's in 8 years. Most volleyball wins in 7 years. Most points in school history for women's track team.
3. Academics have greatly improved. In Rick's first year, we had a Rhodes scholar candidate, 117 on the Eagle Academic Honor Roll; 78 on the Commissioner's Honor Roll. A graduation rate for athletes that is almost 50% higher than the regular student body.
4. Giving has increased almost 400% in his first year. Mean Green Club members have more than tripled. Still way to low theough, are both of you members? We need you.
5. Added/improved scoreboard system in the Super Pit. Lighting was improved also. Original Super Pit basketball floor will be replaced.
6. Put a plan together to make us Title IX compliant when women's softball begins in 2004. By the way, have you seen the signee list that the new women's softball coach(es) have secured. A lot of talent there.
7. Started tailgating. If you've noticed, it has become quite popular in the last two years. The Greenbackers, led by Steve Boedeker, fed about 1,500 at one game; hundreds at every game, including TCU.
8. Improved broadcasts of NT sports by adding stations in the Dallas and Tyler-Longview area that could not be heard over KNTU. All women's basketball games are now broadcast over KNTU.
8. Acquisition of Liberty Christian property for future women's sports center.
9. Added coaches, cars and reorganized the NT Lettermen's Association.
10.Increased marketing dollars by nearly $100,000 in his first year. Added signage around stadium.
11.Established a Master Plan for facilities, including a new Athletic Center and stadium expansion.
There have been improvements to the ticket office, funding from student fees, added stadium boxes, Academic Center expansion and scheduling improvement.
..................................................................................................................
Don't forget, RV's only one person, he can't do it all, and would certainly welcome your participation to help raise funds and increase attendance. Call him to offer your help!

HORSE-HOCKEY.
Were you here for Helwig's Tour and 1-AA football? It's 1000% better today than it was just two years ago, wake up man!
-
A lot of property under consideration. I know Dr. Pohl wants to straighten out the university's borders. It sounds like they're moving in the right direction for future expansion of the campus. I can't wait for the day when I see "football stadium" mentioned in a report for new land or new facilities!
-
Hopefully this was just an early, early preview and there will be a section later.

My Editorial:
The Daily's editors are doing more harm than good to the University. It's all about making sensational statements to push papers.
-
I vote we close down The Daily and give that funding to the new Law School, something that UNT can really be proud of!
-
When does the tourney start and where will it be? Who do we play first?
-
I'll be there to see JJ and the boys!
-
Good report, keep them coming, thanks!
-
Anybody go to a practice to see who looks good?
-
I don't think you can still get the eagle-head one. Go the to Texas vehicle registration office or web site, they have the only plates available at them. The universities decide on their one plate (1) but can change their design if they want (UT has and UNT did too to the star-logo design).
-
The eagle sillouette plates were the original ones, recently changed to the UNT-star logo. I'd like to see the interlocked NT Exes NT-star logo on there instead.
-
It is better than the old site. I doubt with the AD staff working hard on other things that they have alot of time to spend on the web site. Still it would be nice if they took volunteers that wanted to work on it to keep it updated and fresh.
-
Any free stuff into the crowd is great and gets them wild. T-shirts, mini-footballs, anything to wake them up!
-
I completely agree. Professionals should have built the site.
Ah, professionals did design and build the new athletic site. Look in the lower left corner of the main page for the designers, VDD:

Scottie wasn't run off here, he can still post here, like anyone can. He made a mistake in the eyes of many by the poor wording of his article about the program.
I will also say we're all frustrated by recent game scores. I don't know if it's the coaches fault, or the players, or the lack of fans, or the refs, or the opponent, but we need something good to happen....fast!

AGAIN, what's wrong with the band wearing tan shorts and GREEN shirts during hot games? The crowd will understand. It was OK for the UT band on Aug.31, I didn't hear anyone whining about them not wearing uniforms. And no, it's not a money issue either, everyone can afford shorts and green shirts.
-
I don't think a pair of tan shorts and a green shirt will break anyone's bank.
-
Why can't the band wear shorts for games in Aug. and Sept like it did against Baylor at Fouts a couple years ago? It makes no sense to wear hot unis.
-
Why is there no standard for NCAA soccer fields like there is for football and basketball? It would seem to be a great disadvantage to have to play on a different sized field each game that the other team was used to.
-
Thanks for your interest in our opinions. Will Mr. Velez listen to your suggestions? The band sounds really good this year.
-
>>>I'm truly fed up with the constant negativity and compaints I read on this board. <<<
Aren't you whining and complaining about the whining and complaining?

SMS played at a tough Saint Louis team and won in overtime. Smu beat Tcu in overtime Sunday. It will be interesting to see how UNT matches up with Smu.
