  1. Yes, I noticed. Kids from Tyler, Carrollton, Dallas making plays. A couple were honorable mention all-sbc. I went to the ULL website and they listed 8 players from the DFW area (well the Dallas area). We have about the same from the Dallas area 8-10 (depending on where you think Dallas ends), and another 8 from the FW area.

We have to remember that Texas kids have to pass a state exam to enter Texas Universities ( public ) . Even though they have graduated from high school. Texas students can attend out of state universites without passing the exam. This is one reason you see many in-state players not even consider in-state schools.

  2. 1)Might Texas weasel their way into the title game again?  Ohio State and Michigan (both undefeated) have to play eachother later in the season.  Auburn still has to play the remainder of an SEC schedule (far harder than a Big XII one this season).  USC looked vulnerable yesterday.  West Virginia and Louisville have to play eachother so that's a loss on the record of one of them.  Can Notre Dame keep winning?  I think it's possible Texas might beat an exposed Tech team, A&M, Ok State and whomever the North sends to the title game to sneak into the title game...just maybe?  Might we hear Mack Brown crying for the media to "take control of college football" again?

2)What if Rutgers continues to win?  Could we see an undefeated Scarlett Knights team shut out of the title game in favor of a one loss team?

Yep, you got it Rutgers vs. Boise for the national championship.

  3. There were over 17,000 fans at the West Texas A&M vs Midwestern State game this past weekend in Canyon, Texas.  It was homecoming for WT and BOTH teams were undefeated and run high scoring offenses.

I am sure that if we can ever be 5-0, we will have standing room only and all of these other arguments will be forgotten.

If you win, they will come.

And this was with Texas Tech and Missouri playing in Lubbock.

  4. Really, some pretty small dudes at the game. There were no HS jackets, so I couldn't get names. It was a pretty good crowd really.. half of them were wearing green of some sort. I thought we were going to give them a good show... so sad.

I think I spotted one kid from Austin Westlake. he was not very big.

  5. None of the above should have been an option.  I'm not sure who the right person is.  Dodge isn't leaving SLC until his son graduates, so he's out.  Please say no to Fran.  His reputation has taken a big hit the last few years.  Gary Barnett is an idiot and R.C. Slocum got run out of Collie Station because his offense was boring.

Bailiff @ TX St. San Marcos is an interesting option, but he's an alum of SWT and may not want to move.

The head coach at West TX A&M is interesting.  He runs a high powered offense and has been successful immediately.

I want a coach that is:

    1.  Enthusiastic, a motivator and energetic.

    2.  Has a relationship with the HS coaches in TX.

    3.  Will sell the program to the community.

    4.  Runs an entertaining offense.

Chambers and Applewhite would be at the top of my list.

Don Carthal is the coach at WT, turned a two win program into a 10 win program last year. Even tho he was hired after recruiting season was nearly over,. This year WT is 5-0 .

  6. I'm just throwing some more big names out there:

    Jimmy Johnson

    Terry Bowden

    Barry Switzer

    Spike Dykes

Why would any of these guys come to UNT?  They wouldn't...we'll get stuck with some other no name guy that can't coach his way out of a paper sack.

How about Spike's son who is a off. coach at Texas Tech ? All of the coaches at Southern Miss. should be available and looking for a job.

  7. Zips , last year's conference champs, return 16 starters including the all conference QB and a WR rated as the best athlete in the conference. Plus top rated recruiting class in the conference. They looked pretty stout on TV earlier this year.

  8. Good broadcast, good stuff. However, I disagree on assesment of Texas

Tech, I think they are the 2nd best team in the Big 12 and they will give UT all they want. UT's off. line is supposed to be the best in the nation, I hope so .

$ is so nice , but wouldn't it be nice to start a season with victory at home the first game ? That can backfire , see Colorado.

    See ya Sat.

  9. Come on guys, after film evaluations and seeing the QB's in practice for over a month plus the spring semester the coaches believe Phillips is the best option. This is their job and their call. They want to win as bad as anyone . Perhaps, this is a ruse and someone else will get the majority of the playing time , but I doubt it. The coaches have alot more riding on this decision than any of us.

  10. It just isn't right when college team has better equipment than the pros. They apparently have more money than they know what to do with, thus the $8 million big screen, temp pills, and cool jackets. These things are an advantage and make playing for Texas almost like playing for Mark Cuban. I think the NCAA should at least try to make some sort of "expenditure cap" if you will.

Don't know how many local high schools are using the air-conditioned pads , but there was a piece on the news the other night about Midlothian High having the pads. So it may not be uncommon to have this equipment.

  11. So what exactly from the UT game, gives you that impression?  Sure our Defense might be a little better, but there is nothing on Offense that gives you that impression.

According to Norm, this morning ,UT played the weakess team of any of the top teams this weelemd.

  12. NCMG,

Dawson is a walk-on from Rockdale who did play some on special teams last year.  The only time that I noticed him was when he managed to pick up two major penalties, either back-to-back or in close proximity, I forget which.  Both Brown and Dawson are big dropoffs IMO.  What's happened to Colt Mahan?

    BIG DAWG

I'd bet the farm that JQ pushed the issue.  He may want to show the pro scouts that he can play hurt and still be effective.  While I hate to see him risk further injury, he is a team leader and wants to show others by example to lay it all on the line.

Colt has been injured ,missed the last scrimmage and today's as well.

Def was not real sharp today.

  13. QB's, QB's, QB's...what is the story?  Did Meager play?  What did Wilson do?  Did Phillips rebound from his outing last week?

HELP, I couldn't make it out this morning.

Meager did not play. Wilson and Phillips played and looked pretty equal. Evan Roberson had some outstanding plays. Zach Muzzy returned a punt for a TD and returned a KO to the 5 yd line. Zach also made some nice catches.

Scout team QB's were Tune and Zach McLaurin , first time I had seen McLaurin , he may have big upside, can really move. Both made some nice passes.

  14. Looks to me that Phillips will be the starting QB , best all around game of the three. Would like to see more of Wilson , but time is growing short. Tune has alot of potential. The return of Rose should help the snap problem, however the exchange should not be a problem with the backup centers . Hope this gets corrected in a hurry. While Thomas was held out during most of the scrimmage, Roberson was the best running back on the field, does need to hold onto the ball. Cox needs to run toward the goal line. Fernadez and Fitzgerald should add depth to a solid receiving corp.We do have more size and depth than last year, this cannot hurt. Couple of injuries during the scrimmage Phillips and Higgs and a couple of players not suiting up. Need everyone .

  15. Folks, it's not the Sun Belt the Texas Bowl shunned, but North Texas. It has already been mentioned, but the failure to travel well to New Orleans Bowl, and the poor home attendance are the culprits. Butts in the seats that's what the bowl games want.

  16. What the F***....you cant be serious.....North Texas is still a Division 1A school, the last i checked we had an enrollment of over 33,000 and are ranked #3 in the state in attendance.

Without NT access to the bowl you idiots will lose out on the revenue generated from our fan base, ya'll's loss good luck with this year's first game, all of TEXAS will be waiting for the much anticipated game of UCF or East Carolina vs. Baylor....

    wink.gif

    # 3 in attendance ???

  17. I am not exaclty sure why we didn't sign a full class, but it did work out for us to sign a really good kicker.

After hearing what DD said about Patton (wanting to attend somewhere else); I am sickened.  Not becuase DD or his staff failed, but because an 18 year old kid was offered a free education, and turned it down.  I really hope that UNT does not release him, hopefully 2 years is long enough to learn a leson about keeping your word.

Also used one of the scholarships on Victor Gill the big tight end from Argyle last week,
