  1. Why you ask, what caused the growth? I would say a consistent investment in the program financially from the administration and large donors over a long period of time. Believe me, Baylor, Tech, OSU, KU, KSU et al never ever wanted to ever see this happen. There were many disappointments along the way for Houston of course. They were called Cougar High and ridiculed for many years. And yet the kept investing in facilities, coaches despite the "G5" label that had been thrown around their neck like an albatross. I recall people stating how Houston was throwing money away. And then they lured Holgerson away from WVU. And yes, these season ticket sales are directly tied to the fact they are in some way returning to a new version of the SWC. And yes I believe the Big 12 should be our goal as well. My point is, when they started all this there were the same naysayers that said they would never succeed. It can be accomplished folks.
  2. HOUSTON -- In his first news conference as a head coach, Tom Herman admitted that as an assistant, he admired the Houston coaching job from afar. As someone who cut his teeth as an assistant at myriad Texas universities -- Rice, Sam Houston State, Texas and Texas State among them -- he knew the landscape well enough to understand the kind of talent that existed in the state and, in particular, the city of Houston. "You can get good players," Herman said Wednesday. "That's a lot of the battle. I tell people all the time that the mark of a really good coach is turning an average player to good, a good player to great, a great player to elite and an elite player to a champion. But not even the best of coaches can make average players elite. I think what it says is that the recruiting base within a 200-mile radius is phenomenal around this place." read more: http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/14288080/from-art-briles-kevin-sumlin-tom-herman-houston-keeps-finding-great-coaches
  3. Look at the University of Houston, acting all grown up and everything. They are so cute at that age. UH, long suffering in grand old Robertson Stadium, particularly in recent years when the football team has been, you know, actually good, finally is moving forward on a much ballyhooed stadium plan and its first order of business was to hire Manhattan Construction to manage the project. Manhattan not only built the Jerry Jones palace in Dallas (Palace in Dallas should be the name, by the way) and the cool new stadium in North Texas (their football team needed that?), they also built Reliant Stadium and the recently opened, totally swank new digs for the Dynamo, BBVA Compass Stadium.
