  1. UNT will host one of the top linebackers in the state this weekend in Sherman’s Kahlee Woods. The 6-foot-0, 235-pound honorable mention all-state selection has already visited New Mexico and Colorado State and will visit Texas Tech on Feb. 1. Woods plans to take all his visits and carefully consider his options before making a final decision, but enters his visit to UNT with a high opinion of the school and the direction of the program. “I like everything that is going on at North Texas,” Woods said. “It’s booming right now. I played in their new stadium and felt what the atmosphere is like. We won that game. Maybe it’s a sign.” Sherman played Rockwall Heath in the playoffs at Apogee Stadium last season, when Woods earned first-team all-district honors for the second straight year. The proximity of Sherman to UNT and Woods friendship with UNT cornerback Zac Whitfield could give UNT an edge when it comes to its efforts to land Woods. Whitfield and Woods worked out together over the holiday break and played together at Sherman. 2. Sherman linebacker Kahlee Woods has cut the list of schools he is considering to four: UNT, Texas Tech, Colorado State and New Mexico. I talked to Woods a couple of days ago and he said he isn’t leaning toward any school. My gut feeling is that UNT has a shot, which makes it a little more interesting to follow every turn in the chase. 3. Kahlee Woods already knew quite a bit about UNT before visiting the school over the weekend. Zac Whitfield — one of Woods’ former Sherman teammates — plays for the Mean Green and the school is right up the road. What Woods had always heard is that the school’s football program has a family-like atmosphere. Woods’ experiences during an official visit over the weekend bolstered that feeling. “It went great,” Woods said. “I went in there with an open mind. I know Zac and he talked about how everyone is part of the family there. When I went home, I felt like that was true. They made me feel at home.” Woods said long before he visited UNT that he would take all of his official visits after narrowing the list of schools he is considering to four — UNT, Texas Tech, New Mexico and Colorado State. 4. I have to run out here in a minute, but I did make a couple of calls already on the recruiting front. Kahlee Woods enjoyed his visit to UNT, but he has no favorites among his final four of UNT, Texas Tech, Colorado State and New Mexico. 5. North Texas has yet to score a four-star commit this season, but this weekend could big for the Mean Green -- particularly for the defense. Middle linebacker Kahlee Woods (Sherman, Texas/Sherman) will take a trip to Denton, Texas, this weekend. The 6-foot, 232-pound linebacker is making his third visit, as he visited Colorado State last week and New Mexico last month.
