  1. Heart of Dallas Bowl UNLV vs. North Texas, Jan. 1: A young Fort Bend group plays for North Texas, but sophomore linebacker Jamal Marshall (Elkins), freshman defensive back Chad Davis (Bush), freshman receiver Darvin Kidsy (Elkins) and freshman offensive lineman Dominick Walker (Austin) are getting playing time. Kidsy has played all 12 games for the Mean Green, amassing 16 receptions for 151 yards. Marshall has played in 11 games, recording 17 tackles, while Davis has played in nine with three tackles. 2. Over the course of his career, North Texas coach Dan McCarney pretty much has seen it all when it comes to the personalities and confidence levels of players. McCarney has coached quiet guys and loud guys, confident guys and guys who needed encouragement. Then there’s Darvin Kidsy. Even McCarney, who got into the coaching business in 1977, had never encountered anything quite like the UNT freshman receiver. “He’s really confident,” McCarney said. “He called me more than any of the signees did, and it continued once he got here and camp was going on. Most of the time it’s coaches calling student-athletes, reminding them of this or making sure that they are here on time for that. He wasn’t kissing my rear end. He wanted to tell me about how this could be one of our better freshman classes and how he could help us on the field.” The best part for UNT is that Kidsy has backed up all that bravado and worked his way toward the top of the Mean Green’s wide receivers rotation heading into a game at ninth-ranked Georgia on Saturday. 3. Darvin Kidsy, one of the top players in UNT’s 2013 recruiting class, made a big impression during the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Game last night. Kidsy caught six passes for 73 yards for the South in a 39-29 loss to the North. The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal published the full box online. 4. Kidsy had 35 receptions for 400 yards and four touchdowns as a junior, breaking out with 11 touchdowns to go with 669 yards on 33 receptions this past season. He also averaged 33 yards on kickoff returns and 18 yards on punt returns. Kidsy, who plans to study petroleum engineering with a minor in kinesiology, selected North Texas due to a good impression from coach Dan McCarney and the Mean Green’s move to Conference USA in 2013. With his scholarship signed, Kidsy is eager for his future. “It’s a countdown,” Kidsy said. “It’s a grind and I’ve got to stay focused. This isn’t it. This is the beginning.” Read more: http://www.yourhoustonnews.com/sugar_land/sports/football-elkins-sends-four-to-college-football/article_9575a9c4-717c-11e2-802a-001a4bcf887a.html
  5. Incoming senior WR Darvin Kidsey, a speedy 6-8 high jumper who's verbally pledged to North Texas, will play opposite Moore. Read More: http://www.chron.com/neighborhood/fortbend-sports/article/Football-Pundits-issue-early-picks-for-fall-3664610.php This post has been promoted to an article
