  1. The faculty/staff also had several other events around campus at the same time, so that was always going to be a bit of a challenge getting a large crowd. But, I did hear a lot of positive comments about the stadium...especially how nice it was and how wonderful the Club Seating area looked.

Like you...I wondered about that nerf ball thing. Interesting. Maybe it was for the refs use in determining off-sides, false starts.

I suppose you're right, I still thought there would be more people...I mean hey, free hot dogs!

One thing I did notice from the "mock game" is that the whole thing seemed to be very fast pace and intense. Players were always in a hurry to lineup and the coaches were always screaming at them. There was no walking on and off the field. Good stuff.

  2. I was there with a few coworkers. The turnout was dismal to say the least....maybe 100-150 staff at the very most. I did get there a little late so maybe some came early and left early. Anyway, the scrimmage was a nice surprise. Aaron Power is a beast!

    P.S.

What is the point of hiking a nerf ball but having the quarterback start out with the regular football in his hands?

  3. I agree on this. The bigger programs have fans that come to tailgate even though they have no ticket to the sold out game. They add to the tailgatiing atmosphere.

I also don't see how this is going to be enforcable.

I also don't see how this is enforceable...and I hope doesn't end up getting enforced. Now if tailgating begins to become overcrowded (which we all hope for one day) I could see enforcing this, but currently I think all it will do is anger people. People who didnt purchase tickets in the past and instead tailgated in the parking lot will continue to do the same, especially now that ticket prices have gone up.

  4. Check out the drawings in this bid for data cabling. In prticular, check out page 10 where you can see labels for the various field-level rooms such as the two auxillary locker rooms, the "Green Room," an event meeting room, coach's locker room... and then on the student side the visitor's locker rooms (page 11).

Page 13 shows the women's restrooms on the club level will be four times as large as the men's. There is a VIP reception area, concessions, and offices.

Still studying the plans, but check it out! Cool stuff.

Great job posting the blue prints...this is very similar to the rebels intercepting the plans to the death star. Now if I could only find the thermal exhaust port...

  5. I stumbled upon Coach McCarney in the UNT Bookstore yesterday. I overheard him saying that he's now hired all of his staff (not sure if thats news or not) and that he was there to buy all of his staff gift cards to the book store. He was also talking very enthusiastically to the store manager about next year's home opener and the need to fill the stadium. I guess that makes me a bit of a creep to eavesdrop, but what the hey

  6. Thanks for the lead Gabe--- his Iowa connections make him a distinct possibility in my book.

No problem Harry. I also made a post about it on the private forum. Looks like he resigned back in 2006 to pursue non coaching opportunities but maybe now is looking to get back into it. I also have found that he's friends with Mccarney on facebook...ha. Maybe he'll be the QB or TE coach?

  7. Rumor about what? He has okay background but he was fired at Kansas before the offense really took off (i.e. he wasn't there for Ressing and Orange Bowl seasons). As a position coach he wouldn't be bad.

A rumor that he is our most recent addition to the coaching staff.

  8. I was there and it was very frustrating. My take on it was simply that we needed better PA equipment in there. If you want to take command of the room then you need the capability to do so. Short of screaming into the mic, Coach didn't stand a chance. That said, I did see RV walk through the crowd trying to quiet people down.

Some of the talkers may or may not have been employees of the AD

  9. we badly need a team shop.

Totally agree with this...I had to go to the game straight from work and was unable to sport any Mean Green gear, would've been nice to be able to buy a cheap t-shirt.

Also, can we get the boy scouts to run the concessions stands? They are 100x more efficient than the people UNT pays to work our basketball games...

  10. And it is still very possible to do a national search and end up with someone from your own backyard.

This reminds me of a national search UNT just completed but at a higher level...I think we all know what the results of that search were too. I'm thinking something similar will likely happen for our head coaching job.

  11. Why are so many people against the idea of having wind generators next to the stadium? Depending on how big they are (how much of an eye sore they are) it might not be that big of a deal, plus it will bring UNT a lot of positive publicity for "going green", especially since our stadium is LEED certified.
